I see people complain about how "they don't understand the rules of the world" and get hung up on that when watching and I am so baffled that people care about that in this film lol it's clear that the rules of the world don't really matter, it's absurd and just a blast start to finish. I fell in love with this movie instantly.
Before Prince Henry he was an asshole conservative military dude in Purple Heart... So the tables turned and then they turned again. It really just shows the versatility of the actor. He has done a couple of queer roles(Handsome Devil being another one) but is straight. The man can definitely do whatever type of role he wants to do. Most actors don't want to be typecast and he's working against that happening, for sure.
Hazel DOES rule in this movie… but Josie was definitely a close second. Her comedic delivery & storytelling was pure GOLD. Also, Josie in panic-mode, lamenting her future married to a fruity preacher - 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i am a straight 66 y/o white male from the UK so this movie is not aimed at me .....i found it HILARIOUS and the actors were brilliant , i will be watching again as i missed bits laughing out loud and bits were happening in the background. would recommend to everyone

They actually have a running gag that there is a dude who is supposed to represent JD and when Hazel makes a tree explode in the end he screams "hey, that's my thing"😂 so they definitely didn't miss the reference!

I'll be honest, I'm definitely NOT the target demographic for this film. I'm an old GenX dude, I don't know any of these actors (not completely true, I had seen the Willow show and knew that actress), and high school for me was more decades ago than I care to admit. But my wife and I do love a good dark comedy, so we decided to go see it in a theater when it came out. Possibly unpopular opinion coming, and note that I'm writing this before watching your reaction, so I don't know how this lines up with your experience: I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, but I can't say that I loved it, or that I would give the movie more than a 7 (maaaaybe a weak 8) out of 10. I think the biggest issue for me is that the film exists in it's own surreal world that is clearly not the real world, and I struggled in the first half hour to reach the level of suspension of disbelief necessary to buy into that world. The characters, storylines, and behaviors in this film are products of that world, and can only exist in it, and as a viewer, if you're not IN the world of the film, the film comes across as kind of ridiculous. Once I accepted the temporary reality of the film world, though, I was able to enjoy it much more for what it was, and we were both laughing a lot by the end. I think the film struggles in welcoming viewers into that world, though - it's an abrupt opening with no introduction. Of course, I freely admit that may be an issue of generational expectations. I will add that while I understand the comparisons to Fight Club, this moving is really nothing like Fight Club. Not in any way that matters, at least. Yes, there is A fight club, but the underlying themes, meanings, and intentions are so vastly different between the two films that I really think the comparison is a poor one. Even harmful to the viewing experience of this movie, if I'm honest, because hearing "teenage lesbian fight club" as a glib description of this created some unmet expectations in my brain. Alright, sorry for rambling, now on to the reaction!
