I think Jordan getting injured in the early part of the 85-86 season was a blessing in disguise. He had such a long time off that I think it gave him a new focus and drive. After he came back and got regular minutes, he just exploded for the next 7 years. He talked about how much it bugged him not being able to play basketball for all that time.
Big thanks for this rare game, I'm a huge fan of Jordan but I have never seen a game of the 1985-1986 season, except for those in the playoffs with the Celtics.
Its so good to have you back hoops! Thanks for this rate upload. I wonder what would have happened this year if MJ wasnt injured. He missed almost the whole season and still scored 63 against the Celtics in the playoffs. I think he probably would have won his first scoring title this season.
great upload! this game proves that everything those sport analysts said about how he didnt have the middle ranges game and how his defense was not as good as his offense were all wrong accusations. most of the points here are mid to long range jumpers. and the way he helps on d from the weak sides and those one on one tight defenses has been there even before this game.
ooohhhh this one here is RARE!! Was this the 1st game of the 85-86 season? Or the 2nd? I know he got injured in the 3rd game vs Golden State. But look how MJ was always quick on his feet, with or without the ball...and he gained some muscle mass between his rookie and soph seasons. And his D really picked up (look at his D against World Free). And last question...why did the Bulls mascot look like a rooster??
In this game, he has his raw, amazing hops, but he uncharacteristically can't finish as well at the hoop as he later did. Maybe the time off increased his determination and allowed him to learn more away from the game, so that he was a better player than before he got injured.
No doubt in my mind MJ wins the scoring title and challenges for the MVP if he doesn't get hurt this year. They probably win around 45 games and don't have to play the celtics in round 1. Though they would've lost to them eventually, regardless.
@libetta It is safe to say that LeBron is the all-time best NBA player when it comes to the combination of muscle-mass, agility, strength and movement. He was stronger than MJ. I can say that later in his Championship yrs (1992-1996), he was the strongest GUARD in the league, no question. And he may be the strongest GUARD of all time when it's all said and done...
@libetta (continue from last post...) But LeBron is stronger than MJ....but remember that MJ is a FAR-better ball player than LeBron, and a greater Champion. So overall (and obviously), MJ is better than LeBron.....but not STRONGER!

That's awesome! I don't think I have ever seen game footage from MJ's 1985-1986 season. His defense was swarming in this game.
He did not shuffle his feet at 3:38
What great vision to contest the shot at the Cavs' last possesion.
Thanks for the upload, Hoops!
MJ rises again in his 2nd year!!!
Wow...the Cavs lineup from 1986, and lineup from the Cavs in 1988 is COMPLETELY different!
You are right - this is the 1st game of the 85-86 season.
good to see this account back hoops. nice rare uppage.
tHat was a game winning block at the end for mike...!! he had game winning steals, rebounds, assists, etc, etc... GOAT...!!!
great upload!

damn if jordan made that shot at 3:47 it would be on all the highlight reels
@VicOyedeji no he was about 200lbs up until about 1990,u can see if u watch games from 84 to 89 where it shows his weight in the introduction
Any highlights for the next game against Detroit on RUclips?

@mnkhan2020 Which poster uploaded the other MJ 1986 game vs. Cleveland?

yeah!!!! Hoops is back!!! Greetings, man.
Best Ever!
Its really bad he missed 64 g due to injury
Dang... forget the points look at his other stats.. some people could score 29 but can't do as much as MJ did on the other aspects of the game
still waiting for the description
@VicOyedeji
so strong but he cant show up in the 4th quarter? how many games has MJ missed in his career. How many has Lebron so far.
@libetta

...game footage before his injury.
WTF why didnt cavs foul at the end?
What about Free's jumpshot?
lol
Anyone who says LeBron is the next Jordan deserves to be slapped in the face and then watch this video!
@RToor34
yes
Wow vid is good, but this new youtube layout is really bad.
World B. Free sighting LOL!!
LOL at 1:18 !!
Not to discredit Jordan the least bit, but World B. Free was ASS on defense. It's actually worst than I heard lmao.
that call at 0:48 was horrible.

@VicOyedeji
MJ would win in a fight though. just the competitive nature of MJ alone would eat up Lebron.
