  • In this Photoshop video, Jesús Ramirez shows just how easy it is to create a template file, which you only have to double-click to use. The file opens as a new, untitled document so you never overwrite the original, and making changes to the template is just as simple.

Yep in MacOS Big Sur this doesn't work anymore using PSD 22.3.0 as Mike says you get the psdt and psd added, now I've explored this further and online guides stay open up in the Finder inspector and change the psd extension to psdt there, but when you do this the psdt file turns into an generic file Photoshop won't open it and if you right click to open you get the 'Search the App Store..." prompt. What gives Adobe? I have loads of psdt files and need to make more on the fly all the time. UPDATE... Big Sur 11.2.3 seems to have fixed this but you still have to change via Finder inspector to psdt the file is now recognised by Photoshop

Good info, thanks! I know some of us haven’t upgraded and those that have are having issues here and there. I hope it will continue to improve. -EG

Thanks for the tutorial. Also, one question, is there a way to add this template to Photoshop Home screen?

Yes, that is exactly why I watched this video... Would like to know the same thing!!

When I do this, it simply adds a ".psd" extension to the filename. Even renaming the file does not create the template file. Example: saving a document as "Document1.psdt" is saved as "Document1.psdt.psd"

Go and rename the file yourself to *.psdt, and remove the *.psd, and you are good to go!

Yet another video that rushes over key details. "I'm going to go to PSDT". REALLY? how does one find that? Just because you know doesn't mean WE KNOW.

Yes he already had a PSDT on his system but he did explain that you can simple right-click and select rename; then rename the extension to .psdt
