I have changed up the way I attach the rails to the cage. I make a solid frame that I then attach to the wire. I am going to be building some more cages soon. So I will film that and add it to this play list.
Nice, same way my dad and I build cages, but we could not find anything for the rails/tracks for a guillotine door so we make swing down doors. I am interested to see how you split that tubing to make the track
I join the corners the same way wire wrap and j clip, makes nice strong corners. I second the recycle sentiment, my first cages were framed with mud flap anti sail brackets off a big rig ( 3/16 round stock) now I get pieces of grid wall and break it down for the 1/4 round stock and build frames out of that
Thats awesome! I reuse whatever I can to cut cost. Just buit three more cages and made the doors with some 1/4inch round stock from.a trampoline net. Worked great! Thanks for watching!
State Departments of Natural Resources should operate Live Cage Trapping Operations of Bobcats and Coyotes. Sick animals could be given dewormer and the large males could be turned over to local Trappers for dispatch. Consider beginning with a dispatch of males 35 pounds and over to begin with. Then after collecting data for a few years determine if it should be lowered to 33 pounds and whether an upper weight limit for females should be instituted, such as 37 or 38 pounds. We could materially reduce predation of Cattle by not merely controlling Bobcat and Coyote populations but for their individual body size as well. Some of the research I have read indicates most Cattle predation is an activity of the largest Bobcats and Coyotes. Someone give this idea a thumbs up; thank you. Thank you for the video of live Cage Trap construction. Live Cage traps prevents the injury of non-target animals. Remember to check set traps each morning.
What state are you in? Our cats don't get to 35 pounds in Az. A 26 or 27 pound cat is an absolute monster out here. Desert cats are just smaller than the big ones up north.
@OutdoorMike do you think the 14 gauge wire would work well if it's 20x20 inch or does it need to be narrower to have the rigidity as all the traps iv seen on RUclips seem to be narrower than they are wide
Tractor Supply carries it. If you order a 100 foot roll they will deliver it to your house for free. I had to order it on line. But it was cheaper than ACE and free delivery.
I buy mine from Ace hardware. Also called True Value. If they don't have it on hand they can order a 100 foot roll for the store and you can buy it from them by the liner foot. The 36" wide roll is 2.99 a liner foot from ACE.
When I cut my wire off the roll I cut every other piece of the wire on one side then I cut the other side so I have a one inch long wire to wrap around the corners of the cage every two inches. No J clips required. I make rabbit cages and I re-enforce around the door with wire from election signs. I am looking at making cage traps outt of powder coated wire closet shelving. I find lots of it in trash piles.
Thats a good idea! Thank you for sharing! I also agree with using whatever you can find and repurpose to save on materials. The J clips are for reinforcement to ensure that animals who fight the cage harder don't get out. Thanks for watching!
I build a few different sizes so I can store cages inside each other. So the wire I had allowed me to build 2 10inch wides on 9 wide and one 7 wide. Thanks for watching. Hope the videos help.
Mike i just saw this. Great job bud🇺🇸🇺🇸💪
I'm going to use your video to make a few next year
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
Hey, Mike, have you done any modifications to the cage trap since you filmed this series. I sure do like how you show the whole build! Thanks so much!

Part 2 is posted. If you haven't seen it yet.

@OutdoorMike Illinois
Great stuff keep it up!
Thank you!
Would 16 guage wire be strong enough in a framed cage my idea is remaking the duke style trap but 20x20 inch for fox
I haven't tried the 16 gauge wire. However the animals are harder on a framed cage because it is not able to flex when they fight the cage.
@OutdoorMike do you think the 14 gauge wire would work well if it's 20x20 inch or does it need to be narrower to have the rigidity as all the traps iv seen on RUclips seem to be narrower than they are wide
Hey Mike where are you getting the 1x1x36in x 100' cage wire now I cant find it anywhere, Ace says they don't carry it any more I'm in Phoenix, thx.
Tractor Supply carries it. If you order a 100 foot roll they will deliver it to your house for free. I had to order it on line. But it was cheaper than ACE and free delivery.
What gauge wire are you using
how would i be able to get a drawing on specs etc. kinda layout on parts , blueprint sort of
Hit me up on Instagram @outdoormike1 I can send you what I have. Just some hand drawn plans but it's better than nothing.
Can you recommend a mesh manufacturer/ supplier.
I can't find anything local.
Thanks

@@OutdoorMike thank you
@@OutdoorMike my ace couldnt find it in their system. Could you find a sku possibly
Would 1x2" wire work ok? It's the only thing I can find locally.
Yes. I know a few guys who use it. I just like the 1x1 better. But the 1x2 will work fine.
Where do you buy our wire ? I can only fine 1x1 x36 14ga in 100 ft. rolls. Would like to buy a smaller roll.
Ace hardware carries it. They have 100 foot rolls but you can buy it by the liner foot from them.
The part number is 5044672
Hi Mike I am building cages , I have 14 ga wire. Is that ok , insted of 16 ga. My neighbor had a 25 foot roll he gave me.
14 ga is the size I use for my cages.
16 seems a little light. ordering 14 now@@OutdoorMike

Where you buy the 1x1 wire at?
Ace hardware.
5044672 is the part #. Most ACE stores don't keep it on hand but they all can order it. The bigger stores usually have it.
Thanks I will check there
The trigger wire you mean it’s just a piece of 1/8” of cold rolled steel rod? You said wire ? Just checking
Yes. 1/8" cold rolled. I buy it in long sections, and it looks just like a long wire. So I kept calling it that.
@@OutdoorMike cool I thought so just wanted to double check just looking for supplies. Thanks man
would 16 gauge wire work for this?
Probably not. These cages get a lot of abuse from the animal you catch. 16 gauge may not hold up.
What are the demission's of the formed steel?
It's 1x1 formed steel. Then after I make the cage portion I cut the steel to best fit in the front of the cage.

Leaving car batteries on concrete is bad for them.
? Is there some in the background? If so, it was old, and I was getting rid of them.

What made you go with 9 inches wide ?
I build a few different sizes so I can store cages inside each other. So the wire I had allowed me to build 2 10inch wides on 9 wide and one 7 wide. Thanks for watching. Hope the videos help.
