I sometimes read hyped books so I can speak about it from experience rather than what I've heard. I finished this book last night after I also bit the bullet and purchased the Kindle version. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. It was fine but didn't blow my socks off. You can tell the author comes from romance writing background. Not only for the sexy times but also the journey was mostly internal about two people coming together. Violet never really fails or has setbacks to overcome so I think it detracted from me investing completely in her character. I don't know yet if I'll continue the series as the books come out.
She absolutely fails… the entire book has her fails. She has some sort of disorder that makes her bones break easily and muscles strain etc. as someone with a chronic condition I personally related to that I guess. The author has ehlers Danlos syndrome so I think that inspired the condition, she didn’t name it tho so I think that was actually a nice touch, like it resonated for me because it was brought up so much but for other people I could see how it wouldn’t be as obvious and something you can gloss over
She fails to save her friend near the end who dies… she lets her friend read her mind which is another flaw she didn’t anticipate. Lots of fails but overall she wins by getting the best dragon so I get that but I wouldn’t say she never fails
@@Cloudyconfusion And that means nothing when her disability barely affects her. At most it affects her in the beginning of the book but as the book progresses it suddenly just disappears for no good reason. Disabilities don't work like that. There's a difference between acknowledging a disability and overcoming it and simply pretending it's not there. From what I've seen, there are no shortage of people with this disability in real life who are upset because Rebecca Yarros was too lazy to do the former and settled on doing the latter for plot convenience.
I absolutely loved Fourth Wing and this video. I loved how you inserted your old videos. Perfection. I smiled through this whole video. I love Hunger Games and Divergent. It was incredible to read a book that brought me as much joy to read as Hunger Games, Divergent, Twilight, The Mortal Instruments, Vampire Academy, Vampire Diaries and Sarah J Maas, as well as the Crave series. I’m sure we will hear soon that this will be a movie. I can only imagine how many pre-orders they have for Iron Flame. Happy Reading📚
Omg the edits in this video are chef’s kiss! Especially your flashback book reviews! You sold me on Fourth Wing. I’m a seasoned fantasy reader and have been disappointed by YA, however I would love to go back and get some early YA feels and this sounds right up my alley. I’ll go into it knowing it’s not the best fantasy book of all time, but I’m down for a good time! Edit: wait time at my library is 11 weeks! 🤦🏻♀️
I always though New Adult is literally the age group that are new adults so 18-25. It’s still adult content but with some YA aspects because they’re still developing. So any book set in college/Uni or with anyone in that age range, I typically class as new adult first. This is also only for romance genres.
I am currently reading Fourth Wing. I bought the book when it was first released because I loved the edges and the first couple of sentences of the book piqued my interest. I don't normally ready fantasy and this book has made me think that perhaps I am missing out and I will definitely be reading more fantasy.
Won’t lie, had to start drinking after the parapet scene because the writing was too ridiculous and I needed to turn my brain off. Which helped because I ended up giving it 4 stars. I love that you pointed out the lack of consequences for SJM’s books. -> slight spoiler in comments
Spoilers for ACOWAR and KOA endings. After ACOWAR’s lackluster ending (shoulda let Rhys stay dead) and KOA’s endings I don’t trust her to write a finale where the stakes *mean* something. It just feels like she’s telling me “oh no danger” and I’m like “lol sure”. TOG was an 8 book series and you’re gonna tell me not one single main POV person died at the end? Ha.
The one part towards the end, ( I was listening to the book ) I was getting ready for work, make up just finished and then the fight happened and I ended up crying. Listening to it with all the emotions of the people and dragons did a number on me. 😢
Just by luck I was able to get the ebook from the library. I wanted to read this book just for the hype. I don’t read a lot fantasy books so maybe that’s why I ❤ this book. I can’t wait for the next book.
I think this will be the next book I read after I finish Heartless by Elsie Silver. I loved The Hunger Games and Divergent series so I’m hoping I like this one too!!
Dude, trying to get a physical copy of this book has been crazy hard. Sold out everywhere and backordered online for 2-4 months. My local library got a few copies stolen so they only let you read it in the library and you can not check it out. I am currently on a backorder list online and the earliest I can expect to get a copy is mid July to early August. I really hope it's as good as it is being hyped up to be.
Barnes n noble has faster shipping than Amazon just fyi, says it will ship in 5 days. I know I’m 2 weeks after you wrote this but just in case you’re still looking 😊
@@Cloudyconfusion I got on the backorder list on Amazon and by the time I left that comment I had already been on it for 2 months. Amazon just shipped it out. I think the publishers just got out another batch of books printed. When I had first tried to find it I did check B&N but they had it listed as "Unavailable". Maybe it is just a regional issue but it is able to be ordered from them now for me.
I'm trying to be patient and wait for the audiobook to be available on my library app, but I'm tempted to use an Audible credit for it. A friend of mine keeps raving about this book!
Amazon recommended it to me a while back. I read the synopsis and was all for it, so I added it to my cart, however I let it sit for a while. It finally dropped under $20 and I grabbed it, I had totally forgot about the sprayed edges 🙈. But fell in love with that, the map and the cover when I opened it! I'm getting ready to buddy read it with my daughter, if I decide to wait, lol. I heard about the spice, not my cup of tea, buttyou saying it's only a few times I'm cool, I did hear the f-bomb is in there a ton of times, and I'm guessing that's where the lower rankings are coming from. Amazon, as of this morning, had the squeal ready for a preorder and it was under $20, so I grabbed it. It will also be a first edition.
I did the Amazon preorder for the next book as well! Somethings so exciting about getting a first edition book when it comes out! I’m jealous you got the first edition sprayed edges😮 lucky!
I feel that some reviewers are taking this book way to seriously is just a fun read to pass the hours. I do chuckle that some youtubers have made up to 4 hour videos hating this book and then have gone on to read the second book. Clearly some book reviewers have to much time or they know that hating this book brings loads more views. This is not fantasy in the strict sense it is Fantasy romance (as noted on the back of the book). This is no Lord of the Rings which is excellent, but my gosh the hate over this book is unreal.
I was crushed at the event. Don’t wanna spoil it in the comments. And I appreciate an author willing to go there. I was shocked about the end twist lol. I’m a simple reader haha.
As a high fantasy lover Fourth Wing's world building is half baked at best and almost completely illogical at worst. And as someone who 99,9% of time dislikes romance in my books, this one sadly wasn't an exception. So I don't know what I was waiting to happen, I'm clearly not the target audience😅
Okay so... I need some help 😅 I recently bought Fourth Wing (I haven't read it yet tho) and I realised, that there are two different versions of it? On one cover it says "fly or die" and on the other one it says "graduate or die" Is there a difference between those two versions? Is it relevant wich of them you read? Because I am absolutely clueless and haven't found any information about it. I hope someone can explain it to me 🥺 sorry btw if my english is incorrect. it's not my actual language 😅
As far as I know, the other version is no different content wise. Cosmetically the cover is different, but its a limited release that isnt made anymore
I read this book for the dragons…and the fantasy. I agree, it felt very YA. Lots of hard language, but that is to be excepted in a military-style story. The first half of the book was fabulous. I loved the action and the politics. But I feel like the romance was a big halt to the action. Very frustrating. I was surprised by the ending…but happy with it. The deaths broke my heart. But war is not a happily ever after scenario. I borrowed this from my library - audiobook - and that helped learn the pronunciations. When I borrowed it they had two copies…ebook and audiobook. Neither one was being read! When I returned the book three days later, both copies had huge waiting lines. Note: I loved the flash backs to your old reviews. How delightful! Now I want to read divergent.
I enjoyed Fourth Wing and most of the book is young adult but I am not a big fan of spice so I enjoyed this book a lot. The dragon scenes made this book for me.
I love all your recommendations! I feel like anything you review when I read what u give your opinion on I end up agreeing with u! We have the same taste! Thank u for making these videos hugs from Virginia
Love your hair this way! Haven’t read the book. I have a hard time understanding why ebooks are getting so pricey. It’s getting ridiculous. Again really like your new hair.
I don't usually read fantasy but this book was just everywhere online, so I gave in and bought it. At first, I couldn't deal with the simplistic writing. I almost DNFed and moved on to something else. But I kept on reading. I've rolled my eyes a few times, however, I started to enjoy reading it. Toward the end, I could see why it was so hyped up. I actually would read it again and can't wait for the next book. I'm really stingy with ratings and I give this a 4.25. This is no great work of literature and it's a combination of things we've either watched before or read before (Divergent, GOT, ...), but man was it a fun read for me!
I finished Fourth Wing a couple of days ago, and I liked it. I can't compare it to SJM because they are on completely different levels. I see the hype if it's your first time reading fantasy.
I haven’t read a book since 2016 since i read the goldfinch now that im almost 37 ive been thinking about picking up a book again. I saw this recommended to me on amazon for some reason
There are still no stakes in this book. There is simply the illusion of stakes created through killing off unimportant characters. This is usually a very juvenile technique which fits considering how insanely childish the prose itself is.
But honestly. If you had a decade from that series and you still at that level as a reader in quality.... You know what I mean. This book has very! low quality prose. Fr. And bc of that the main character feels to be 15 and that makes the "smut" sick. And wtf with the h@rny dragons?? Why... Never mind. And has plot holes. Serious ones. This book just feels iike: it didn't have a beta reader nor a real editor to check it before it went to publishing. This is a draft book with all it's errors. And somehow a lot just don't want to see that. And that raises some questions about quality expectations. Bc even you should see this fact, how badly it is written what you read. No matter what is the story . You want a "product" and it is delivered to you. This is very bad delivery.
Not at all interested in fantasy, especially not dragons. I have heard so many people say even if you don't like fantasy you will like this. I doubt it.
The fantasy doesnt really exist tbh. The only thing fantastical are the dragons, but you can honestly take out the dragons and it seems like nothing changes. Even the dragon powers are mostly irrelevant and not built up on

I've always thought of New Adult as YA but with gratuitous sex and swearing because that's what "new adults" think makes a book adult.
