They should have at least released the PS2 version, just giving it the same rename as the PSP one. That console was still popular back then, so I'm a little baffled that they didn't seeing as it was already complete.
Yeah, while it makes me sad that we never got BF3, Elite Squadron was an amazing game for PSP. They really crammed everything they could into that little console and while many corners had to be cut, you can see the passion that was put there. I got Renegade Squadron after Elite Squadron and that made it harder for me to play a lot of it. Always felt like a downgrade to me, though that doesn't mean I didn't play 100s of hours of it growing up. Both great games imo and love the customization

Yeah I would definitely argue the ds version has the better campaign, even in terms of gameplay. Yeah but the gameplay on the PSP one is unmatched as far as any portable Battlefront games go. Some mechanics in BFII on PSP were slightly better but the online multiplayer on this was incredible. You had 16 players and loads of bots and the battle is going on both on land and in space and in the capital ships. At any point you can get in a ship and fly around.

Same here bro! lol they literally built it using assets from BF3, also cutscenes, but scaled down the scope and visual fidelity and obviously used the Renegade Squadron engine.
Grew up with Elite Squadron on PSP! Absolutely loved it back in the day. I played Renegade too but Elite Squadron was where most of my childhood memories of being introduced to Battlefront comes from. Only got into classic Battlefront II on PC many years later. The BF3 Legacy mod is great but man a complete BF3 for consoles and PC would’ve been great. Hopefully the future holds a Battlefront III that does the series justice and takes from Free Radical’s work too.
I'm glad that Battlefront Elite Squadron gets some attention here and there. I loved this game as a kid playing the DS version a crap ton. I am really happy to know the DS version is the complete story even with some variations. I always take this game as part of my personal headcanon. It was such a great game even if it wasnt the best mechanically.
I remember playing Elite Squadron online. It was kind of easy getting a win online, since no one ever bothered to defend the capital ship. You could just capture the ion cannon, get the shield down, and end the match way to quick.
I remember trying to play the Dantooine map in multiplayer and never going back after hackers took over and just spammed orbital strike rifle shots all over the place.
I remember playing this on the DS when I was younger. the hardest parts for me were the X1 boss fight and the defense on Hoth. both took me ages to complete, especially X1 since the lightsaber combat is not easy on that part. I had great memories playing Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron in the PSP, it was so much nostalgic! But it's pretty upsetting that we've never got Battlefront 3 on different platforms like the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, the original Xbox, Xbox 360, and of course the PC!
We were so close to having this game, i will never understand it. I know they hit a point where the new consoles came out, game hadn't released, they couldn't upscale to HD so a new game would have had to be made.... But the groundwork was all done. The idea of a bigger and better, seamless transitioning battlefront 2 was perfection to anybody's eyes and ears. They could release the damn game completed today and anyone would buy it.
Back in 2009 this game was my introduction to the Battlefront franchise so you can imagine my confusion when I played the critically acclaimed Battflefront 2 (2005) 5 years later in 2014 only to realize it had less features than Elite Squadron.
Same! I played Renegade first but spent way more time in Elite Squadron and have more memories of it. I played classic BFII on PC around 2018. Still very much enjoy it to this day, especially with mods. There’s a BFIII Legacy mod that somewhat replicates the real BFIII by Free Radical but in BFII, and resembles Elite Squadron.
Tbh I biggest improvement this game had over the previous Battlefront was the inlcusion of close melee combat. I really hated to switch to the pistol when there was a heavily damaged battle droid one feet from me in the BF1 and 2 when I could simply knock it to the ground.

Lol, I remember watching videos of this game as a kid thinking it was Battlefront 3. I wish they'd make a console port of this game. Sadly, video game spinoffs are often forgotten by their makers, especially the ones that had mixed or less than favorable reviews.
Man, for me personally battlefront 3 is one of the most painful "What if" of video game history. The fact that BF3 was almost complete and got cancelled for trivial reasons, instead we got the disaster that was the EA BF1 and 2 is just painful and sad
I had this on PSP. I thought the campaign was pretty crazy even as an 11 year old, but many car rides were spent playing Galactic Conquest. I never owned any of the prior Battlefronts myself so this was my go-to
This was my entire childhood I have the psp version and Jesus Christ do I love that game wishing Nintendo decides to bring it to there lineup of Star Wars games
Say what you will about Elite Squadron, but it is my favorite out of the originals. The land-ship-space gameplay feels like a destination-met, as it were. Basically, Elite Squadron was THE Battlefront game the series was building up to. You could customize your soldier as in Renegade Squadron, the battles take place on land and space (that rhymes, lol), and I enjoyed the inclusion of Rahm Kota as a fan of the Force Unleashed. The controls do suck sometimes, especially when engaged in close-combat. But the flaws to me, are easily missable if you craved the Battlefront 3 we never got. I will say, however, that the DS version is far superior in story, lore and location than the PSP. The best maps in Elite have to be Cato Neimoidia, Endor, Dantooine and Coruscant.
Star Wars Battlefront III can be played on Xenia thanks to the leaked build from Xbox 360. There are mods that fix certain issues in the game; the only thing that doesn't work entirely are the missions in story mode.
I have a friend who worked at Rebellion on it (I won’t share names) said it’s nonsense that BFIII was nearly finished. They were handed the free radical code and files. My friend is a high up designer and he said the files and code was a mess and nowhere near finished. He told me that free radical likely spread that myth to gain attention at the time.
haha holy shit dude I fucking loved the DS game as a kid, def an underrated title and easily my favorite game for the switch. it still holds up pretty well for a ds game today, the combat is super satisfying and the story cutscene slides are sick. the story is genuinely quite compelling as well, I must've beaten the game dozens of times as a kid and the final boss never lost it's impact and can even be emotional
I really enjoyed this game back when I still had my PSP. They really should realeased the ps2 version that way more people could have had access to this game
An early build of Elite Squadron PSP from March 2009 exists on the Internet. It’s basically the same game but titled BF3, further proof ES was supposed to be a handheld port of the game. I believe someone also posted on Reddit about having it in UMD form as well. Edit: here’s video footage of it: ruclips.net/video/22v4jPiOcyc/видео.htmlsi=bC_ff9THLCR2Vfof
Hehe the DS version's speeder bike level uses the same music track that plays on Ando Prime in episode 1 racer. It's probably from the EP.1 soundtrack, but I really don't remember which one.
If they added this to PC, the things modders could do with this. Multiple capital ships, large scale maps by modders, and a larger amount of players. All that in this little game would've made this game completely addictive.
The one thing I hate about the DS version compared to the PSP is the changing stations. In the DS there is 4 classes throughout the game and that's it. So you're stuck with a primary and secondary weapon along with the saber for the late story and NG+. I would've loved the pick and choose loadouts because the engineer class was too limited and I only ever used it when it was absolutely necessary. Most of the time was either the heavy with the minigun and rockets, or the spy with duel pistols and the disruptor rifle which meant I was stuck with the class I beat X1 with at the beginning of NG+ until we finally get to where we unlock the heavy class in the story.
It's easy to allow hyped cancelled games to pass into 'legendary' status but from everything I've heard about BF3, I do genuinely believe that its cancellation was a crime against gaming. It seems as though BF3 could have progressed the medium with its ground to space tech and would have provided a much needed alternative to the modern-era military shooter that dominated in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I'm just happy that BF1 and 2 are still very much alive and heavily supported by fans today, despite the absence of new titles in the series, no-one can rob us of those first two games and I am confident to this day that the best Star Wars Battlefront game is still yet to come and will arrive someday.
This game’s plot is just one giant fanfiction lmao. “Uhhh Jedi and Sith clones, evil clone wookiee army, Force Unleashed, Renegade Squadron and Jedi Academy characters and settings and there was actually a rebel attack on the Death Star BEFORE A New Hope!”

Great video as always!
Before disney took over and made it non-canon, almost all expanded universe star wars stuff was basically fan-fiction made into canon lol
Aside from Luke there is no Jedi Academy characters unless you talk about Novel trilogy by the same name
Pre-Disney Star Wars did a much better job of “X is relevant right now, let’s reference it.” Without milking it to death.
Well SWBF3 was supposed to just be fan fiction and fan service. Like that rumour of light side darth vader
Well for awakens took that road and also the comics

I had this on PSP. I thought the campaign was pretty crazy even as an 11 year old, but many car rides were spent playing Galactic Conquest. I never owned any of the prior Battlefronts myself so this was my go-to
Its pretty much the same as SWB2 galactic conquest but the added feature of actually garrisoning your planets was a lovely addition
For a PSP Battlefront game. It looks pretty good here, and the graphics and presentation looks very nice on a handheld console.
This was my entire childhood I have the psp version and Jesus Christ do I love that game wishing Nintendo decides to bring it to there lineup of Star Wars games
I’ve been looking forward to this!
I couldn't believe they put the dead Stormtroopers floating in space.
You should review the unreleased Darth Maul game that still has footage leaked
Absolutely! We’d like a swbf3 video by you!
I honestly want a remaster of Renegade and Elite Squadron more than I ever wanted a remaster of the old mainline Battlefronts.
15:27 I definitely would love to see you Flandrew do a video covering Battlefront 3 and what could have been.
Great video - I would love to see a follow up on what Battlefront 3 was supposed to have been
We totally finish the battlefront video collection with the Battlefront 3.
haha holy shit dude I fucking loved the DS game as a kid, def an underrated title and easily my favorite game for the switch. it still holds up pretty well for a ds game today, the combat is super satisfying and the story cutscene slides are sick. the story is genuinely quite compelling as well, I must've beaten the game dozens of times as a kid and the final boss never lost it's impact and can even be emotional
i loved this version more on the ds personally thanks for making it
I had this game on D S my grandma bought it for me as a surprise lots of fun hours playing this
I really enjoyed this game back when I still had my PSP. They really should realeased the ps2 version that way more people could have had access to this game
I still have a tough time convincing people this game existed. I played it on my PSP and went "bro, just put this on consoles, it'd be insane"
I remember HS me arguing with people on RUclips, stating that this was Battlefront 3 because of the cancelled BF3 leaked cutscenes.
the most needed remake of any star wars game
An early build of Elite Squadron PSP from March 2009 exists on the Internet. It’s basically the same game but titled BF3, further proof ES was supposed to be a handheld port of the game.
I believe someone also posted on Reddit about having it in UMD form as well. Edit: here’s video footage of it: ruclips.net/video/22v4jPiOcyc/видео.htmlsi=bC_ff9THLCR2Vfof
In the files for Elite squadron there's an image for bf3 logo
I never knew there was any version other than the DS one I played
Honestly, I never used the grenades to fight Grievous. I was 13 when I played, and I just kited him around the arena and whittled his health down.
Check out the modders that have rebuilt BF3 dev builds from the code and fixed the sound etc, pretty cool stuff going on
I loved Elite Squadron on the PSP. Hopefully at some point they will do a remaster of it on home consoles. Aspyr could definitely do that.
Seeing as the ps2 version was complete do you ever see a scenario where that version is released on modern consoles
If only we got Battlefront 3. That would have been such an amazing game.
