  • Aquarium electric blue acara Cichlid fish is one of the more pretty fish in the industry now. These are a lot tougher than some of the other weaker genes. This my electric blue Acaras favorite food. It’s freeze Dried Cubes of shrimp sold on amazon. Here is a link:

Taking care of electric blue Acara Cichlid. I'm so sad. I think the pet store I got a piece of "driftwood" from killed my perfect little plakat betta, Lafayette. I bought a small slab of it for my pleco to munch on and I woke up this morning to a dead pleco and the water being yellow tinted and my betta acting very lethargic. I did a 50% change. Not sure what to do for him. He's already showing signs of ammonia poisoning. Pretty sure the store sold me grapewood and not driftwood... Should I just put him down or will he possibly spring back? Advice? :( Photo is from months ago. Not today*
Electric Blue Acara Care - • Species Care: Electric...
If you had two-more oscars which were coming from different tanks in their petshops, one day you will have them fighting until one become like this. Nah, that is going to be a question, to the person who is asking for a remedy of that poor guy, "so brother, are you sure of putting the same-size oscars in your aquarium?"
Only had two in total. And these two were living together from last three months. One of them got bigger but this one didn't. Bigger one attacked this one over night. It is a sad thing to bear, so, how is your buddy now, Qureshii? Is it getting better (at least, could normally "stand")?
Try to give more oxygen-rich water and those medications offered by people here... if you find a difficult time, try to give methylene blue solution to give a hygene and clean environment for the skin to regenerate scales..
And make sure the temperature is in between 25-26 degrees celcius... electric blue Acara Care. My two were from different shops, different ages but similar sizes, both put in the tank at the same time and no issues between them. They've been in there a year and no issues.
Nah Miss Walker, mine is the same as what happened to Qureshii, having similar-sized oscars, aged 1-2 years, and yes.. after three months in the same aquarium, they fought.. and exactly ended with the death of three oscars.
Although mixing oscars with similar size have the tendency of a long-live couple or so, well, to be honest, all depends on the size of the aquarium, the hiding spot, and other inhabitants.
Approximately four years ago, I kept two same-size oscars in a (roughly speaking) 60x40x40 aquarium for about two years (size; 15/17cm both). Then, they fought each other in the end of 2015, November.
Back to the case, so, Brother Qureshii, how is your Oscar buddy now? Is he getting better? Oh my! I think he was attacked by another fish and scraped off the scales running and running into things.
To clarify, is he in a bucket alone now?
I that your only option for him?
What antibiotic medication do you have available?
Air stone in there at least too. Stop shining the flash at him and cover the bucket. No antibiotics right now. Tell me the names I will try to find some.. and rest of the things I have already done.. it's all covered. When my fish beat up my other fish in their Oscars they look similar to this not as bad I treated them with a little salt turned up the heater and turned off the lights to reduce stress and within a week they were brand new back to normal if you use the chemical stuff like I did once that about killed him made him worse.
To all: thank you for the support guys. You guys have taught me a lot. But the sad thing is he passed away few hours back. I did everything I could. He fought and survived for the whole day. But he was in so much pain I guess that was unbearable.
It's a 56 gallon tank according to the US measurements. And the one who died was 4.5 inches long. The one who attacked this little guy is around 6 inch. They have been living together from last three months when a friend of mine (Hasan Jamil) rescued them from a local store. They were almost dying there so we bought them to our place and treated them. And this happened.
Can someone please help me? My platy has been like this for 2 days now. Her belly is very thin and I think she can't regulate her swimbladder. She has to swim upwards for food and when she stops swimming she falls down to the bottom. Is there anything I can do? All the other fish are fine.

They need to start selling regular blue acaras. I hear everywere that electric blues get ich like crazy and then spread it to your other fish. Regular electric blues used to be one of the most sold fish in the hobby. Now all you see is these electric ones. Im gonna start calling them ELECTRIC BLUE ICH ACARAS.

How are these with freshwater eels? Such as Spotted Eels? Considering these for my new Eel tank.

My Blue A lived with a 2 foot Tire Track Eel in a 120 gal. They got along fine for years. Give the eel a big pot - they come out at night and when you feed them. Blue A will pay no attention to eels as long as the eel cannot fit in its mouth.Fish sitter killed my 10 year old eel last year during a local brownout. Very bummed.

Totally agree with you about these acaras being good community fish with other mild mannered S. American cichlids. However, I would really disagree with you regarding some of the tank mates that you mentioned. I know all cichlids have individual personalities, however, some of them can get pretty mean with tank mates. Over the last few decades, I've always found severums to be mellow and good community fish. However, regarding the firemouth, parrots, and Jack Dempsey, they've always been really aggressive fish. The firemouth was the first fish I've ever had that I'd call a sniper and a bit of a gorilla warrior. He'd hide behind things and do swift attacks on other fish much larger than himself and then shoot back to his hiding place. He terrorized a very large oscar that I had that was king of the tank. He'd hit and run before the oscar even knew what nailed him. I've gone through 2 parrots, at two different times. They didn't bother at all smaller schooling fish, like the larger tetras, however, with other cichlids, they were nightmares with constant bullying. With the last parrot, I finally got sick of watching the bullying and jerked him out of the tank. I was amazed at the reaction of the other fish in the tank, and how they relaxed once he was out.
I've also kept jack dempeys on and off for decades.... I have yet to see one dempsey that wasn't a very aggressive fish. Anyway, out of your recommendations, severum is the one that I would recommend as they're gentle giants.
I wanted to edit this post because I've never had an electric blue Dempsey. Only the regular Dempseys. I have read that the electric blue dempseys are more of a mild disposition than the regular dempsey.

Count your blessings! With any cichlids, it can be a tricky thing to get a peaceful tank worked out. LOL, did you know the Jack Dempsey was named after a famous boxer in the early 1900s. They are boxers, for sure. Anyway, like I wrote in the above, cichlids have personalities, just like your average pet dog. You're fortunate, that you've got an unusual Demsey, because the majority of them are real tigers in the tank. May your tank stay peaceful for the life time of your fish.
