For what it's worth, I do prefer that "living" vibe where you see the paint and strokes, as opposed to wildlife art that can look a bit too photographic for my taste. Thanks for sharing!
Seeing the radically different processes and styles between pet portrait artists is facinating. I am a pet portrait artist in Asheville, NC, and my focus is animals in nature. Not absract, but not photo realistic. My paintings really changed when I stopped trying to copy other peoples processes and did things my way and what made sence for me. You have helped me alot, thank you!
I think you are very generous in sharing your process and decision making, David, including narrating parts of the painting that didn’t perhaps go to plan. I also appreciate that you are not a snob about painting, but rather focus on the creative act, the process, rather than being elitist about mediums or subject matter. It’s refreshing, and instructive, and I hope your excellent skills and discipline are bringing you the income you need.
Love your painting process. I’m inspired to use your ideas for my next painting I have in sketch stage. Your painting is beautiful!! Keep doing what you do, it’s very inspirational!
I really enjoy your evolution with your style and painting but also in your videos. It’s much more personal, edited, pro… you are so inspiring in so many levels. Well done keep going
Beautiful kitten, thank you for sharing your process and experience with us. I really enjoy watching how different artists approach and work their pieces. Great work, I’m sure your client is over the moon with this. X❤
Thank you so much for this video. My mom’s dog just died in a freak accident a week ago at three years old and I’m working on doing a portrait of her. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this video.. Very informative for someone like me who is being asked to do pets, and is very hesitant about painting pet.. I have only done one and it was for my aunt.. Less stressful when its for family. Thanks for this video. Gave me a little more confidence.
Adorable. Totally with you with not trying to copy a reference pic exactly. Allows for more expression. The abstracted blocky effect of background works really well.
The butterfly is a nice touch but I especially like how the cat is still the main focus.. Which it should take precedents as it's the star of the the paining. Nice one.
The eyes are very important , and when you're using a photograph, always remember : there is to much contrast in a photo, meaning the darks are to dark and the light is to light, the highlights in the eyes shoud not be to strong..
Danke❤❤❤

Such a beautiful kitty. She looks like the three legged kind. I had a three legged Golden Retriever many years ago. Great job as always!
