Potraits are so meaningful. My husband does charcoal drawings and has made one for me. I’m very glad to have it because the portrait is of our pocket beagle, Scout Marie, who was almost 10 yrs old and passed away last fall. And I get to look at it as often as I want. She really was a part of our family. Our children are grown and out of the house and Scout was much loved. We speak of her all the time. The portraits you do serve a purpose. If you can make some money from them, good for you . I wish you success in your endeavor.
Thanks for your lovely comment. I’m glad you have such a wonderful reminder of Scout Marie. They’re such a huge part of the family. Thanks again for watching :)
I have not made my first painting yet of dogs or cats but seeing your videos sure makes me want to go in that direction so we will see here very soon .Thank u fo that great video.
Rachel, like you I'm self-taught (apart from O level art about 60 years ago) and have been painting for nearly 3 years now. Acrylics are my current medium (though experimenting with oils from time to time) You're right about pet portraits - they (and a few landscapes) provide a very small income for me at 76, having done a few for friends and friends of friends - and being a great animal lover they give me as much pleasure as the owners. Keep up the good work and I wish you luck in your journey.
Thanks very much! I appreciate you taking the time to watch. I started out similarly with pet portraits for friends and then friends of friends :) it’s great trying to paint their lovely characters. I’m glad you get just as much enjoyment out of it 😊
Some people concentrate on specific types of subjects and while that is okay, it has been a help to me to try many different things and refine down to the things you do well and enjoy. I've been painting for over 20 years (self taught) and I still find new things i can do well at. (I have done so much wildlife this year) but that has helped me with pets the background has helped me with landscape but portraits are still a problem 😂. Well done i loved it.
Love this video. Could you do one on commissioned to paint their pet from a poor photograph. This often happens to me. Also being asked to paint two pets from two different photos in one painting.
Thanks for watching :) sorry I was a bit slow with the reply but I’m glad you found the answer anyway in the videos! I’ve never been to art school but I’ve learnt so far through RUclips videos, books from favourite artists, researching things online and lots of practice! 😊
Thank you. I agree with each and every of your comments. Your painting is,lovely.
Thank you! I’m glad it was relatable :) thanks for watching ☺️
