- How many years (decades) of movement habits do you have under your belt?
We all have them - those automatic ways of moving and being in our bodies that we don't even think about.
Yet, these habits lead to tension - that pesky tension that you can't seem to shift, despite stretching and strengthening and doing all the things.
It could be that Somatic Exercise is the missing piece.
Somatic Exercise is a delicious Mindful Movement practice that allows you to move beyond your automatic habits and re-set the 'normal' resting tone of your muscles.
What does this mean? Simply: Greater comfort and less tension.
In this free Full Body Somatic Unwinding Class, you'll unwind and re-balance your body, feel taller and shed the weight of habit-induced tension.
I want to introduce you to this amazing practice as a compliment to whatever else you already do to nurture your being. It pairs up magnificently with Yoga, Pilates, Weight-Training, Running ... anything and everything, in fact.
Try it and feel the difference.

You are so very welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
This was the best thing I did in a very long time. My breathing improved and my whole body felt better after just one try. I love this. It was almost like the effects of meditation for me. Thank you.
Ahh, this is the best! I hope you will come back and do it again.
For the first time in YEARS I did not feel like I was wearing my armor. First time trying your class, please do more content like this❤
Oh this comment made me smile so big! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and that you were able to drop that armor! Thanks for letting me know :)

You are so very welcome. Thank YOU for watching and for your thanks!
Felt tingling in my arms, which is very good. Being in front of the computer so much tends to cut the blood flow. Very nice movements and I feel more relaxed!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! So great to take a break from the computer to move :)
Thank you Erica. I enjoyed the session, especially the shoulders execersies.
I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! I've been thinking about doing a shoulder-specific session and sharing it here - so perhaps I will!
Thank you. Always a good physical and emotional release.
So glad you enjoyed!

So nice. Already feel more attuned to my body and when it’s activated vs. relaxed

I am so pleased to read this! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it.
I really loved this. Your cueing was so clear and your direction to do less and find the melting moment really helped me to be present with my body. I'd love to see more somatic videos!
Oh I'm so pleased to hear it, Carrie Ann! I will be sure to add some more somatic videos soon. You can also follow me on Instagram (@ericawebb_selfkind) for more!
Wow, after this I realized my back and shoulders are stiff. Massaging sides made them actually normal. I never noticed how my body was. This made me very sleepy and it will be my new night routine
Best night routine! I hope it helps 💙
I loved this on a Friday night, recovering from a cold. Thank you !😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Loved that and even felt myself starting to doze off at one point. Thank you Erica.

You are so very welcome, Gina! So pleased you enjoyed it.
Wonderful! Thank you so much!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Somantic pilates is probably the most mindful movement there is. It beats a massage or at least prevents us needing one! We are now connected and I hope you can support my place also!
It sure can be a great way to manage tension!
I am writing this two years after you posted it so I don’t know if you will see this question. I had Covid, von Covid for two years and is so fatigued that I couldn’t do any exercising. I am just 70 and want to make sure that as I grow older I do not get stiff but I remain and become more flexible. Will this particular series of exercises help with flexibility in general? Thank you very much
Hello Robin! I'm sorry to hear you've had a hard time over the past two years. Somatics is a super lovely and gentle way to bring more ease back to the body. Your best bet is to try it and see how it feels in your body. Let me know how you go!
Hey I haven’t watched the video or done the exercise yet so maybe you explain in the video, but should this be a daily practice?
It certainly can be done daily if you want to! But there are no 'shoulds' in my movement world - so do what feels supportive.
Erica, how often would you do such a session for some tangible changes in the body? Thank you:)
Hi Ivan! Somatics can certainly create shifts over time, but the answer to this very much depends o the kinds of 'tangible changes' you are looking for. From a mindfulness, mind-body connection point of view, you make those shifts every single time you practice. You may also notice a shift in felt tension and/or pain with just a single session. You can do somatics every single day if you want to!
What are these practices supposed to achieve? Are they working on the nervous system? what's the theory behind? thank you. :)
Hey Ivan! Yep, they absolutely are working with the nervous system. There's a few things going on - one is simply the conscious awareness we're bringing to the work of the muscles. I'm going to do more videos on it (long overdue!) so subscribe to see them soon. I've also got a current podcast series diving into the nitty gritty. Check out episode 173 of SelfKind (three more episodes coming in the series) www.ericawebbyoga.com.au/podcast
@@ericawebb_selfkind Thank you :)
@@ericawebb_selfkindJust wanted to ask you, how often would you recommend one to do this? And is this by any means connected to the feldenkrais practices? Assuming you heard about it. Thank you :)
@@djVania08 hi there! Yes, somatics and feldenkrais share roots for sure. There are definitely similarities and a similar thought process underlying them. How often you practice really depends on your needs and goals. You can practice every day if you want to and find it helpful!
My body feels delicious 😋. Like some yellow & blue electrical currents round in shape r moving through veins and reconnecting these veins or wires in my body🤣🤣
Oh I love this description so much! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it!
How is this different than dynamic stretching?
Is this pandiculation?
Yes, it sure is!
