  • Seat Concepts comfort seat review. I've had my seat for a few months and around 3000 km on the bike. I also had to deal with their customer service because of an issue with the seat. This is the review.

    I am so glad you made this one. I didn’t realize they have a 2 to 4 week lead in shipping. I went to order one before my trip this week, so I opted for the Air Hawk seat pad. It actually works pretty good when set up per instructions.
    I can’t wait till i get home and order one. Your information as always, is great.
    I put 1,165 miles in 2 days and have about 2,500 to 3K to go. I really could use that seat, but I’m not disappointed with the pad I bought.

    Johannes - good review. My son bought a used XR650L with stock seat. Man, riding it is like sitting on a step ladder - high, hard and narrow (but it's been a long time since I have ridden dual sports, too). Great timing with your vid. That shipping cost was pretty hefty, but understandable as it is not exactly a jump, skip and a hop to get to you. Hope the (new) new seat is even better than the (old) new one!. Best wishes and thanks for the great review.

    I got a tall version for my WR250R. Gives me that excellent legroom and all day riding comfort. My theory is that the stiffer foam puts more pressure on your pelvic bone much like a good bicycle seat. So while it doesn’t feel like a sofa, it gives you that comfort where you can forget about your butt and just enjoy the ride.

    I agreed with all your points. The longer rides is where you really feel it on the 701 SC seat. My 690 2015 SC seat was much more soft from the start.
    The 701 is also much more comfortable than probably all other bikes i have had, probably due to the flat seat that you can shift around on and also that it is easy to just stand up.
    On my current T7 i feel that you are a bit more locked in place, and the rally seat was to tall on such a heavy bike, even though it was probably them same height as my 701.

    Just added a standard height version to my 701. 5 hour ride at the weekend confirmed it is MUCH better than a stock seat. I bought the kit and fitted it myself. My tip, do it in the sun on a really warm day. I fitted mine in lower temps and now when the weather is hot, the fabric is a bit loose. I'm going to re-staple mine and put more tension on it. The big downside was the lead time. I ordered in August 2021 and took delivery in February or March of this year. Not too much of an issue given that I am snowbound for 5 months of the year, but something to consider.

    Good to hear the seat is working well for you mate. I was very close to getting one but just couldn't stomach spending that much money on an unknown quantity. Instead I found a local upholsterer with motorcycle seat experience and many positive reviews from motorcyclists.. Took my stock seat to them, got it recovered and additional foam added to make it taller, wider and most importantly much much comfier. The best part was that this worked out much more economical, all of this cost only £150! And that includes me taking the seat back to them to tweak the shape to my liking after a few days of initial test riding it.
    Would definitely recommend this option to anyone wanting a tailored solution :)

    I was considering buying a Seat concept seat, and still may? As of now I had my seat custom made to fit my needs by a local shop near me that specializes in custom motorcycle seats. The shop that makes the seats is very reputable and the guy does amazing work, but there is only so much that can be done to make a 690 seat super comfortable. I have not ridden the bike on any real long distance rides yet to feel how well i will like it, but for the rides I've been on it seems to work, although I did reuse the original stock cover which I'm not pleased with, but it is still much more comfortable than the stock foam that was in it. If I'm not happy with it after some longer rides i will ether return to the shop to have a custom cover made or get a seat concept seat. I hope the new seat that is being sent to you holds up better than the first one. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

    • @michaellloyd7940

      @@JohannesDalen no not $600. I think it cost me around $300, but it all depends on what kind of seat a person has on their bike, and what kind of cover the person wants. On a large bike it can cost $700 to $800+. What like about the custom seat is that it fitted to the rider and the needs they have. He also installs seat heaters, but for my type of bike and how thin the seat is it wasn't possible, but I could have more foam installed and a different cover and then he could install a heater. I may go back and talk to him about getting that done, but that will be another $300 or $400 and then I will have spent $600 or more. Sometimes it's not as cheap as one might think to own a motorcycle. 🤣

    I got the standard Seat Concepts seat for my 690 and it changed my life. It’s a bit shorter in length so a bit cheaper than the 701. What a huge difference. Now 10 hour ride days are an absolute joy. When you had your crash, I wonder if the seat was bumped sideways, causing that steel piece to snap off???? Cheers

    • @JohannesDalen

    My used dirt bike came with a Seat Concepts. It’s incredible. I don’t know how they do it, must be a very unique special foam. The cover is perfectly gripping. I can ride my ktm 690 for 3 hours give or take before I start to feel the pain start. I’ve tried a couple different pads that strap over the seat where I sit most of the time. The one that I’ve found works well for me really doesn’t add padding but is like a mesh that allows airflow between me and the seat. It’s made by a company called Baddass moto and is a double layer that uses Velcro straps to mount it and has a rubber coating on the underside that keeps it from sliding around. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first that it would do anything but I truly can feel the air flow and it has made longer rides more enjoyable for me. Maybe one day I’ll purchase one of these seat concepts seats but for now the mesh pad is helping. It was $29

    • @JohannesDalen

      Happy to hear that you found a product that helps, Mike, and for only 29$ I would have tried that first too. There’s many solutions out there, and on my T7 I threw a sheepskin over the saddle that made a huge improvement in comfort.

    I have the SC low on my DRZ with the gripper top. It’s held up great I love the cover material used and the workmanship. I love the profile look and the little extra room I have to get my short legs to the ground. I DO NOT like the foam they used. Maybe it’s just my low version but it’s a plank and hard as a rock. I’m squirming in about 30 min of riding. Frequent breaks are a must I’ve found. It’s a good thing I ride my DRZ mostly off road and stand much of the time

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  2 года назад

      Glad it holds up and the craftmanship is good, but too bad it isn’t comfortable. Could it be because it is a low seat and therefore not much foam? The seat pan on the DRZ is so thin too, so it doesn’t give you much support either.

    Hi Johannes! After test-riding the 701 all day yesterday, I am selling my Tenere and getting this amazing beast, thank you very much for the inspiration and thorough walkthrough of your build.
    I've had one issue though and that was pain in my knees from the standing position (189cm, 34" inseam), where my knees meet the bike exactly at the edge of the rear plastic parts. I hear the Seat concepts seat negates this by being wide in the critical area and you grip the seat instead of the plastics. Is this really the case on this version or do you think I should be looking at the XL version?
    Thanks!

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  2 года назад

      Hello there! That’s so cool to hear, that’s exactly the kind of feeling you get with the 701. The T7 is a great bike by all means, but the 701 is a completely different animal.
      I have the tall comfort seat from SC, and that adds a lot more seat to grip with my knees for sure. I also have 2cm lowered pegs from Bosley. The standing position feels very secure with a lot of seat to grip, especially the grippy material SC uses. I think the XL version looks almost too big, but I’m sure it’s comfy.
      Just got home from a week long TET trip with the 701, what a fantastic bike, excited to hear your report once you get some more time on your bike.

    I had a Seat Concepts on my CRF450L and it was absolutely necessary. Of course the Honda came with a motocross seat so the difference was huge. I only had it for one season so I can't speak to the longevity of it, but in the time I had it there were no issues.

    I have the 1 inch lower seat for the drz. It is great, durable, have had it for about 16000 km and has held up beautifully, and I am not gentle with it. However, this is unrelated to quality, the lowering forward portion forces you into that nose heavy position if you’re not careful as sliding into the valley between seat and tank is rather easy, and holding your rear end far aft enough makes you feel like you are perched up higher than you should be, but it does lower the seat like it is supposed to.

    Do they actually manufacture the seat pans themselves? I assumed they either bough oem or aftermarket pans and installed their cover and foam on top for a complete seat build. I'm considering one for my Beta 200rr. I think Beta has taken the lead from Husky for the most uncomfortable seat.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Год назад

      Foam quality does matter, but I think the most important thing for comfort is having enough foam, which you can't because it will add inches in seat height.
      There are a few different products you can put on top of the stock seat to make it more comfortable, without adding too much height. What about a sheepskin cover? I've used that in the past and it made a huge improvement in comfort. Not very good if you're riding technical offroad, but for general traveling it works well.

    Whether it makes sense or not to invest so much money in a Seat Concepts bench seat is something everyone must decide for themselves. The original bench seat is a no-go for longer journeys. That's why I also opted for it for lack of alternatives. Is it worth the money? I don't know. Is it better than the original bench seat? Definitely. We are talking about hobby and passion here.
