Ed Gordon on Standing Up to Suge Knight, Relationship With Tupac + Emotional New TV Show

- Not many people are as intelligent and thorough as Ed Gordon. Gaining notoriety on BET Gorden went on to interview not only US Presidents but also sat down with South Africa’s Nelson Mandela on more than one occasion.
With his new show on Bounce TV starting next Tuesday, September 13th he joins Sway in the morning to speak about journalism and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Citing change in the way stories are reported currently Gordon talks about things currently being about the interviewer and not the true story. Talking through controversies like Brian Williams lying about being in action he jokes about throwing in some embellishment but never telling a flat out lie.
Getting into his own show he opens up about who will be joining him for interviews. Sitting down with Eric Garner’s mother and other people affected by violence he says it will be hard to keep emotions in check when tuning in.
Moving forward he touches on the Black Lives Matter movement as well as the violence going on in Chicago. He says it’s hard to swallow that we’re more or less okay with the number of people being killed on the basis of no big movement being started.
Ending the interview with a story he reminisces on being close with 2Pac before his death and also standing up to Suge Knight during an interview when he was late and rude to another guest. Watch the full interview and keep up with Ed on Twitter @EdLGordon.

Talks about 2Pac at 23:00
John Doe hahaha look why i came on here!!!
John Doe thank you
John Doe not all heros wear capes.
Your already a living LEGEND MY BROTHER!
My dude thanks
The Ed Gordon x PAC interview is classic. The difference in intellect between a young PAC vs most of the rap artist today is STAGGERING! Alarming rather...
I don't know man! I hear where you're coming from but, honestly, Pac was just a different dude even back then, compared to a lot of artists back then. I listened to Hip Hop back then but Pac was one of very few artists who I purchased the entire album for cause I just felt like he had something meaningful to say in most of his music and of course he always had top notch production.
I still watch that video today bro they need too remaster it in HD tho great interview tho
!!!!
Because he was a reader. These new mfs don’t read.
I remember in that interview the look on Ed's face as he spoke to Pac and to me it did not look welcoming. Yes the interview went well because Pac was dynamic in his presentation and viewers were in awe of his ability to relate to so many even those living outside of his own culture. I liked that that Pac was boisterous yet respectful when he did not have to be.I'm sure that it took years after the death of Pac that Gordon realized how valuable that interview was for even himself. Pac's words and music are still connecting with newer generations all over the world.
People STILL don't understand what Tupac was doing back then! For Tupac to be doing what he was doing is THE...BRAVEST...SHIT! Ed right, Tupac wasn't a thug, he was a soldier!
Recently got my mom listening to Changes and Dear Mama she had no idea about that side of Pac…sad
Thank you for him it wasn't about being a thug, a thug to him is not someone who steals from you, who kills you, to him thug was about making it out, if your in the ghetto or bad position and you make it out, you thugging
"We defend ourselves from the same crime element that they scared of"
Well said my brother
Ed!... BET's best news anchor. Still a fan. Good job man!
The ed Gordon tupac interview is the best ever in the world
!!!! it's what made me search Ed Gordon
Too bad, Ed didn't put that conversation in his book
Ed is preaching!!!!!!! I love this interview.. Honest!
The same light in which Sway holds Ed Gordon is the same light I see Sway in. Wonderful interview with two great men, salute.
Black People don't do nothing "WE JUST EXIST"....
That line right there summed up the state of Black America by a Tupac over 20 years ago.
Tupac & 50 Cent the only rappers I know of that can convey deep thoughts and say things that nobody else say.
MacReddPW people still REALLY don't get just how smart 50 is either. Or they're just judging the book by the cover smh
Your scope of rap is quited then.
ED GORDON AND CORTLAND MALLOY BACK WHEN BET WAS BET CARRIBEAN RHYTHMS, SCREEN SCENE, TEEN SUMMIT, VIDEO SOUL, RAP CITY, MIDNIGHT LOVE, JAZZ CENTRAL ETC.
The company that Tupac kept was the cause of his demise. He always knew it was too. It's a theme in much of his music. Death by association smh RIP
More Deathrow Records than death itself.
he was almost killed once before he was even on death row records. pac had a loud mouth he wasnt afraid to step to the wrong people. smart guy overall, but had a huge temper at times. if he woulda made it about 5 years longer i think he coulda fixed all that
yeah he got into the mob piru and south side compton crips hood beef
Trail Blazing very well said, spot on. its very rare in these pac videos that someone actually does their research and knows what they are talking about.
Tupac was clinically depressed and had a death wish. He wasn't a happy person, despite appearances.
So many people don't understand that.
It was in the lyrics, plain to see if you paid attention.
"..this THUG LIFE will be the death of me...."
Wonderful interview. . Sway still a fan. Continued Blessings.
Great interview. Love Ed Gordon.
Ed Gordon shopped at the Home Depot where I was a cashier in MI. I loved when he'd come to my lane for checkout! Absolutely gorgeous man!!! Nice guy, as well.
When you wish you could afford sirius
Ed started out here in The D. I remember him as a kid.
My man from the D #Detroit

Peace To Soul Brother "ED" & Sway & Heather "B"....!!! We Appreciate Y'all..!!!
& Tracy G too...!!!
A OG Interviewing A OG
Oh this was that smug ass interviewer for those classic Tupac interviews. I remember Pac was dropping straight knowledge and this guy was emotionless lol.
Mike R he really isn’t that smug deep down. He had a lot of respect and love for 2Pac
Interviewer is paid to interview, not cry.
Definitely! Fuck this clown!
How he supposed to look? You want his eyes wide open drooling over every word the man spoke?
@@Kinobambino
Right 🤣.
23:10 the greatest
I always thought Mr. Gordon was a hottie.
you aint the only one
Hes gay
Whenever anyone starts quoting Steve Harvey, that's when I make my exit.
Loool
lol , the man is a good talker
Ed is a legend
how come these interviews of "im not afraid of suge" always come out when hes doing 10 years or life in jail.
hippa2dahoppa2 Especially puffy
right.
They asked him. And if you watch the interview (of Suge on his show), you can see Ed was taking no crap.
Kevin Powell said it on air tho. Eric Michael Dyson was about to fall out he looked so scared.
Because a lot of Californians think the hood exists only LA. Suge is nit the only boogie man from the hood. Every hood has their own and Ed is from a hood CITY. Hes older and is not stupid. He made it out but hes not dumb. He still understands how to move about.
sway needs to interview charlemagne...that would be an interesting
+K. Asante I second that no lol
fuck no...ctg...wack af.
ADMAFIA210 would be
Right on point! people are just an illusion of the mind.... Let this talk carry on!.
The Maxwell shade @ 13:26
Damn, this interview already been 5 years.. lol
now I want to see the Suge interview he's talking about
he reminds of ice t, in the sense of a smart dude, with words or just plain action
Wow SWAY.
We have the same issues bc our leaders just want to talk smooth but not happy a real plan. What’s the plan?
Ed Gordon was grilling Tupac that whole interview.
Deffently was I think pac just wanted to be loved when he got lock up all his freinds turn on him he probably felt like death row was the only family he had at the time
@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc yea everyone was switching up on him
Gotta get og Tavis Smiley on now bruh
Where's the Suge Knight movie?... Be cool to see it.
i LOVE Pac, but Ed was SOOOOOO right.....
You can't be hanging with Thugs when you're Not a Thug..
He never claim to be/hes was dealing with alot I think just wanted to be loved and feel like someone had his back when he got lock all his freinds turn on him so he probably felt like death row was his ik only family
See the thing is, y'all come in definition on things is not the way how pac saw it, you might see a common word and in the dictionary it means this, but what pac does is he switches those meaning out, to pac being a thug wasn't about robbing, stealing, killing none of that. It was about being from the gutters me making it out, it's about thugging it out, if you in a touch position your thugging.
Sway got his feelings hurt 30:00 lol
What's heather b's problem? She seems disconnected from the conversation and keeps looking somewhere off the camera.
Every show has a token chick that offers very little n is basically dead weight
pretty good advice on how to be a professional.
"U ain't a Thug at heart. I KNOW thugs, U ain't a Thug at heart" Damn...
I don't get it
+T Monique Thank you, but I had commented that before I watch the video.
Black man have to unify to save their communities. They want to be treated as leaders, why are they acting like one? I feel that they should be at the forefront of the movement and women and children will follow.
I remember Suge on the show. "It ain't gonna be watered down, playa"
The lies I love are the ones that they get to tell because 2Pac and his mother are gone.
tupac sister is still alive though
I agree.... smh
Yes it's so much lies going around, I swear if only pac was to put these people in place
@@georgievargas6102 Mopreme is too!
I saw that show
0:04 I don't know if that is Puffy Combs, but Puffy was not die?
Two words...Tri - Pod.
was some people saying that ,or was this what he thought
21:26
Now let me say I really respect Sway and Mr Gordon. However, I want to ask the real relevant question in this digital age. Do we really need journalism in ancient context that you have rightfully out it? Also, I'm yet to see a blogger call themselves journalists... or you being defensive of what you knew? LOVE YOUR SHOW SWAY.. ."you ain't got the answer..."
I've definitely seen people that aren't journalists try to call/consider themselves such
REAL journalism matters !
Anybody please share the Tupac time
23:10
+Transcending Souljah good shit yo

24:54
2pac wasn't really a thug probably.
The camera shaking is bothering..
What does HB do? Can you get a new co-host please?
MistaGeeFunk She Says are dope from time to time.
In this interview she was busy watchin television, u can see it in the reflection- most interviews shes very engaging.
Ed Gordon had me till he got to conflating police brutality/murder and black on black crime.
It's true can't have both you gotta step up in the community the rest will follow you think it's coo if we kill each other
yeah , that wasn't my favorite part , but I understood his perspective
man how tf you gone try ta check sway in front of "ed gordon" too nigka start yo own blog then Don't depend on sway nd his crew do yo thang nigkas make me sick wit dat sway been holding down for years soo disrespectful!!!
Suge reference @30:49
Ed is still doing what he at times been doing which is deflect White supremacy. But he was in his mid 30s then.
Why would a journalist discuss being famous?
what ?
holla holla
