I lost my dad to cancer earlier this year. He was far from perfect, had a love language of yelling, but even shitty dads have love. He's the reason I play the guitar, and probably a reason behind my love for music. This song is a perfect immitation of that complex grief I've been going through. Thanks for it.

I’m sorry for your loss. Not enough people recognize that bad parents can love their kid, and that parents who love their kid can still be bad parents. The fact you can recognize this is a testament to your character.
@@PinkaholicOfficial It was a central part of unpacking the trauma for me, tbh. Like any abusive parent, his love was a lock and chain around my neck that tightened every time he hurt me. Its purpose was always to choke me to death with good intentions.
People never know they're abusive. I doubt most do, at least. Recognizing that someone with good intentions can cause so much pain is and was one of the hardest parts of understanding my own abuse.
I could never have been good enough. Just like his love never stopped him from hitting me, it never would've been satisfied by me. There was always more pain to take.
Their love will never matter as much as the pain they inflict.
