Rabble-rousing is an absolute nuisance to go up against, and that's how I know it's powerful. It's like Scute Swarm in that if left alone, it exponentially goes off the rails.
Seize the Spotlight is my pick for the year. It is in 2% or decks, and while it is not for everything the top commanders seem to be about treasures. It truly shines in a sacrifice deck. When you have the sac outlet on board and everyone has their commander or at least one good creature, you toss it down with a gun pointed at their commanders and politely ask if you can have a card and a treasure. This makes you three treasures for three mana and draws you three cards. And if they don't negotiate, you take their best creature and toss them into your meat grinder.
@@Russian_engineer_bmstu In what way? It had a bunch of new cards designed specifically for commander, that are really only any good in commander, and can be drafted... for commander. Astral Dragon is definitely a sleeper hit. I have that card in Volo, made a second copy with Volo and with Panharmonican out, made like 6 Sol Rings Token 3/3s, and was drawing cards like crazy with Elemental bond. Then I casted a Shapeshifter creature, copied Astral Dragon on etb twice because of Volo, made more 3/3s, and nearly decked myself out with the Elemental bond triggers. Also one of my opponents was playing Phelddagrif, so they were making me draw extra cards at my upkeep. My last turn before I decked myself, I had four cards left in my library🤣 it was great match, my board state had so many 3/3s from my small army of Astral Dragons
Roadside Reliquary is honestly kind of a lowkey banger. I used to play Memorial to Genius type lands a lot in the past, but they usually come in tapped and cost a ton of mana to activate for just two cards. Roadside doesn't actually ask for too much in a lot of decks, and the mana cost is so aggressive for a land ability. I play it in my Ao deck, which has a lot of artifacts and enchantments...and small permanent recursion. When you get to also Sun Titan/Sevinne's Reclamation this card multiple times, it feels real good.

If you take the challenge the stats from the comments, Dryad of the Ilysian Grove is only played in 18% of 5 color decks. This doesn’t make sense to me because it makes your lands tap for any color. It also allows you to play an additional land each turn so that you can get your commander out quickly.
@@jw5087 True, but people run cards like rhystic studies and cyclonic rift more often even though they cost more. And this is me looking at 5 color decks in specific.
@@andrewp979 there is a card with a less powerful effect (chromatic lantern) that is in 60% of 5 color decks. That’s part of why I’m trying to get this stat challenged.
True story: three copies of Robe of the Archmagi were in my Baldur's Gate folder. On top of the folder were my decks, including my daughter's Alela, Artful Provocateur deck. Neither of us realised Alela was a warlock despite having been playing that deck as her favourite since Alela came out. 😂
I've been theory-crafting an Alela deck, and when I got to Robe of the Archmagi my eyes started to twinkle and I turned into a flying newt and then I had to go on an epic adventure with a bullfrog and a weasel to get back to reality. It's such a sublime joy to discover that Robe of the Archmagi practically pounces onto Alela.

Agent of the iron throne is great in my Strefan deck because it just refuels my blood tokens each turn. Agent of the shadow thieves is also great for protecting commanders that I want to swing with each turn, like Strefan and Hapatra
the problem with background cards is people do not fully understand how the background mechanic works. most people think that you can only use background cards with commanders that allow you to take a background card.
I don't know what it would take technically, but it would be a slam dunk for episodes like this if you had a link to a sponsor's card selling website that magically put all the mentioned cards into your cart. -Inspired Thinkering is a beast of a spell on exile matters decks. I'm using it on Liara Portyr and I couldn't be more happy, what an overperformer -For the Emperor! is amazing. An Overrun without trample is awkward, but and Overrun with vigilance is great -Roadside Reliquary is my favourite card from NEO. Amazing, more even so after Serra Paragon (which by itself feels also feels like a sleeper)
Tomb of Horrors Adventurer is absurdly underrated right now. I mean, just ignore the dungeon part. You are copying the second spell you cast each turn. That's amazing. And when it enters the battlefield, you even search for a land, because why not fix your mana too? Seasoned Dungeoneer is also an amazing underrated card from CLB. It searches for a land, then draws more lands and fixes your top card with explore, and makes itself unblockable so you can always take back the initiative if someone takes it from you. Just a fantastic card in any remotely aggressive white deck. Really, the initiative is just underrated as a mechanic. It's so good.
Shadow prophecy, a common in Dominaria united is a solid 2B look at top X card where X is equal to basic land typss. Put two in hand rest in grave. In a 2colour plus its a insta speed draw and filter. Great for reanimation and in two colour is just straight up draw 2. Not op. But good for draw power and its an instant
I’ve really enjoyed Dissipation Field lately. In a combat heavy pod, damage turns into bounced creatures which adds a fun wrinkle to blocking as well. It’s also worked in ways I hadn’t planned, like against Syr Konrad and Brallin.
Something interesting concerning Astral Dragon... Not only can it can copy LANDS you're also in the best color to get around the legend rule.^^ Also a LOT of the really nice black lands aren't ACTUALLY legendary... like Cabal Coffers.^^

Guys, Dynaheir, Invoker Adept! Still only about 400 Decks as commander on EDHRec. Blows my mind. It’s so fun and one great build around! Not even talking about extra turns stuff, I don’t play that. Phyrexian Processor, wand of wonders and many more, combine with Untap-Teferi and let’s go!
I saw Protection Racket for what it was as soon as I read the card. I'm surprised this is the first I've heard anyone talk about it. Every single time I've played it, it draws me cards AND deals damage. Losing a land to it shouldn't hurt your feelings. You're still getting your draw for turn right after. It works politically when one of your opponents needs more pressure. I've put it in every one of my black decks.
I've loved Astral Dragon in my Ur-Dragon deck. Pair that sucker with Dragon Tempest to watch the world burn, copy some Herald's Horn to quickly fill your hand with discounted dragons, or straight up win the game with infinite Cursed Mirrors! Truly a terrific card!
Tenuous Truce is my sleeper recommendation! It puts in work, especially if you can get it down early. I play it in Myrkul and it’s perfect with a commander who takes a few turns to get set up.
Actually in the process of putting together a Ganax/Feywild visitor izzet dragons and treasures deck. I liked the look of that card as well. And look forward to giving it a play.
Haven't watched yet, but I really hope they mention Make an Example. It is one of the best removal spells for multiplayer Magic in the last couple of years. Yes, it's Sorcery, and yes, it's 4 mana... But it's so powerful and gets around almost every form of protection.
Totally agree with the For the Emperor! pick. I kill people all the time with war horn blast in my Ranar Foretell deck. And that’s a foretell card no one ever sees coming!
My favorite card of the year would probably be Containment Construct aka Mad Robot. Mentioned here and there, but it's so unique to a niche playstyle that it really does change the pace of play.
I think backgrounds, in general, are massively being underrated. The first deck I put them in was my Kelsien deck and omg do they do work. When you have a deck that requires that the commander be on the battlefield the way Kelsien does, Haunted One just might be the most important card in the deck. I have all kinds of ways to dodge single target removal, but he can still get taken out by wraths. Since he has a tap ability that I can use at any time in response, the undying effect is pretty much always available. When he comes back he’s untapped, so I can use him again, and I can flicker him to get rid of the +1/+1 counter. The deck doesn’t lean into tribal synergies all that much, but there’s other humans and assassins in there too, so bonus. Cultist of the Absolute has a ton of benefit in his deck too. It gives him a deathtouch source that’s independent of him, letting me keep the effect as he leaves and re-enters the battlefield. He gets evasion, which I can use to get in commander damage, or I keep him as a blocker to eat just about any attacker on land or in the sky. Ward makes my opponents think even harder about trying to get rid of him since it will cost them 3 life just to target him and the boost isn’t too shabby either. The deck has ways of making tokens that can be potential prey or stolen to build my own army/sacrifice fodder. The last one I have is Far Traveler. This gives him an end of turn flicker, that I can use on him to reset him (maybe finish off that 2/2 creature for double the experience counters) or I can reset another card like Species Specialist, which might have exhausted the initial prey, or Dockside Extortionist, for ramp. Again, it’s an effect that is always on so long as I control my commander, and the deck does everything it can to keep him on board.
For the Emperor! Seems kinda good for taking out one person while keeping defenses up, but it doesn’t feel like the kind of finisher people are looking for. I might try it in Marneus.
"Overrun effect" usually involves some aspects that make the attack unblockable/trample/flying ect. Just giving raw stats simply does not do enough in a lot of cases. A lot of green decks (13%) use Avenger of Zendikar, zombie decks have more zombie than they know what to do with, pretty much every single tribal deck uses token effects... So even if you have a 20/20, if I can put a saproling in the way, the "finisher" simply does not finish anything. Gaining life/keeping blockers up is fine, but I don't use congregate in my decks as I need life.
Rivaz of the claw should be in every Ziatora, the incinerator decks. Turn 4 ziatora if you only drop lands. Bam! Ziatora throws away Rivas for that value and basically turns it into treasures for future turns. Can bring back a number of dragons from your graveyard. So helpful.
A buddy of mine got a lucky hand and with a turn 1 sol ring and he was able to cast an Astral dragon in his Myrim the Sentinel Wurm deck a few weeks ago, he targeted his parallel lives like you mention lol.
Really inspiring conversation guys! I was wondering if you have a list available for your Wilhelt the Rotcleaver deck? I also recently came to the same conclusion about Endless Ranks OTD… but in my bid to change up my deck I feel like I’ve made it a bit clunky and now I feel like I need some help with it😓
You know after hearing about candle keep Inspiration I might try it in Riku of two Reflections. I use Crater hoof atm and some games I notice I'm not quite at 8 mana or have enough creatures to win.
Played a game against Daina's dimir dragon deck at CommandFest Vegas a few months ago. Protection racket was an all star. I literally went out and bought a bunch after that game.
Never actually played with endless ranks of the dead, i use necroduality rather than reflections but it's the same thing. I'd run both but the redundancy gets same-y.
I would love to challenge the stats for Lord Windgrace decks. Currently 8 total windgrace decks run Library of Leng, which I think is a very sad thing to see, given the commander makes you discard, and being able to keep the lands you discard from him seems very spicy
waw, Haunted one is going right into willhelt, I just bought Saw in half for that deck as well. imagine if you had something that could give -1/-1 counters as well, then you could give your creatures -1/-1 counters, kill them, they come back with a +1/+1 counter = 0 counters and you could kill them again and bring them back again. with Gary, I'm sure the table is dead. Ha! I've taken Endless ranks of the dead out of mine, but just recently
You want a sleeper? This bad boy is like 5 cents, slap some artifact on him which makes him ping everyone and start wheeling the table, or yourself. Barbed Shocker 3R Trample, haste Whenever Barbed Shocker deals damage to a player, that player discards all the cards in their hand, then draws that many cards.
Akromas Will outright wins games. Protection from all colors and double strike almost always hits for lethal. For the emperor is not even in the same ball park
Tear asunder is my sleeper pick. I think this card should be in almost any golgari deck no matter which powerlevel! EDIT: I am leaning out of the window and claim it can even contest a slot with beast within!
Gonna have to hard disagree with Endless Ranks. Everytime I play it, it makes no less than 5 zombies. I look at it more as a Coat of Arms, you don't just throw it out and hope for the best.
Lol you talk about endless ranks like you're breaking up. I cut that card day one, you need value to give it value. I look at these things as if I'm having the worst game of my life. On the worst day, it's already a dead card for too much mana.

I might try it in Marneus.
i agree i run ''endless ranks of the dead'' and i been finding it whiffs, comfirmed my feeling im replacing it with ''wand of orcus'' which is amazing
Candlekeep Inspiration is so going into my Talrand deck...my goodness I did not know that card existed!!
Mask of the Schemer is great for Brallin&Shabraz decks.
great content as always
Protection racket is so fun in Belakor!
So helpful.
Absolutely love Master Chef in my Pir and Toothy deck!
Fairly new but Shadow in the Warp is amazing for creature decks... acting as a second sol ring in a way.
My Wilhelt aristocrats deck doesn't use Endless Ranks of the Dead, Necroduality is much better.
waw, Haunted one is going right into willhelt, I just bought Saw in half for that deck as well. imagine if you had something that could give -1/-1 counters as well, then you could give your creatures -1/-1 counters, kill them, they come back with a +1/+1 counter = 0 counters and you could kill them again and bring them back again. with Gary, I'm sure the table is dead.
Ha! I've taken Endless ranks of the dead out of mine, but just recently
For the Emperor! is a lifegain card. No evasion means it doesn't get through full boards
I bet on Ingenious Artillerist before watching cause that card is nutz!
Hi, can someone explain to me please, what kind of patreon support I have to choose at least for all the challenge stats in the past?
You want a sleeper? This bad boy is like 5 cents, slap some artifact on him which makes him ping everyone and start wheeling the table, or yourself.
Barbed Shocker
3R
Trample, haste
Whenever Barbed Shocker deals damage to a player, that player discards all the cards in their hand, then draws that many cards.
seems like i finally need to acquire Protection Racket for my "Rakdos, Lord of Riots" Deck. Phyrexian Arena can't reach that
I am going to try For the Emperor! In my Trostani deck
Akromas Will outright wins games. Protection from all colors and double strike almost always hits for lethal. For the emperor is not even in the same ball park
Strionic resonator is a bananas add to an Alela artifact deck.
My son runs Astral Dragon in his Miirym deck (as everyone who can is I'm sure 😃) and it's siiiiiick! 😂
Still waiting for black market connections on mtgo
Tear asunder is my sleeper pick. I think this card should be in almost any golgari deck no matter which powerlevel!
EDIT: I am leaning out of the window and claim it can even contest a slot with beast within!
Biggest sleeper ever: the green Defiler 😂
Roadside reliquary + Crucible of worlds. 👍
The only thing i have against protection racket is that you bin so many lands
Akromas will gives double strike so it can give more of a pump than for an emperor
Gonna have to hard disagree with Endless Ranks. Everytime I play it, it makes no less than 5 zombies. I look at it more as a Coat of Arms, you don't just throw it out and hope for the best.
Whoa did you say Un-Stuck?
Yo betterhelp better have payed extra for being uncluded in the reveal of the new unset.
Akroma’s Will does increase damage by giving double strike
Astral dragon targeting doubling season
Gale’s redirection is a better spelljack.
Is that Syr Konrad card at 45:28 a real card? Where is that alternate art from?
Lol you talk about endless ranks like you're breaking up.
I cut that card day one, you need value to give it value.
I look at these things as if I'm having the worst game of my life.
On the worst day, it's already a dead card for too much mana.
Joey shitting on Endless Ranks of the Dead saying it doesn't do anything when you have no zombies, while also freaking out about backgrounds was cute
Endless Ranks of the Dead pretty consistently has failed me as well
