The good thing with the Broadcom ex Avago ex LSI controllers is support: I was looking for the windows software of a Raid controller I just bought for my company and as I didn't know were to find it, I just wrote to Broadcom support. They kindly replied me with all of the links to drivers, tools and stuff I needed. Great!
Hey @myplayhouse, the drive is named after the shark (fish?) Barracuda. You could just call them "Fishy" drives, and I'm sure we'd all know what you mean...
3:00 Wow i didn't know that. My thoughs are that the reading head can be made thinner because there's no need to generate any magnetic flux in reading process, but the record head can't be made thinner to store up to 4Tb , but only up to 2Tb, hence the overlapped track writing system to reach 4Tb. This can tremendously slow down the writing speed. So the drive have more than 1 head to write, delete and read the single cylinder? Thank You Morten for you video.
I doubt think 🤔 there is more heads per disk inside those small 2.5” drives,, there is one on each side of it. But it has to do a lot of extra work to change data. But writing new fils in empty space should be good.
For a fun tutorial on pronouciation of Barracuda, check the song Barracuda by the band Heart.😎 You can download the Linux version of MSM from the Broadcom website and install it on Proxmox VE as well, its Java based......

seems you're using this as LVM in proxmox; you'l need to do a "pvresize" to tell LVM that the physical drive has changed/increased; then you can "lvextend" the logical volume... :)
agreed - but i'm not sure if this then will be "fail-safe", since these LVMs are not necessarily created by Proxmox, and e.g. may consist of more than a single PV...
for R710 you need to upgrade to the H700 RAID Controller the 6/i is SATA/SAS 2 (3gbps), the H700 is an LSI rebrand of a 9260 or 9280 SAS/SATA 3 (6gbps)

Hi jack99097 Yes,, Denmark,, it doesn't really become really hot here,, last year was good,, this year,, not so much, yet!! Thank you for watching! :-)
Do not do this! PMR (that's the standard) mechanical hard disks works differently internally compared to SMR, and if you'll expand your RAID, it will automatically switch to the SMR speed, which would reduce seriously your write speed. If you insist using the SMR disks, create a new PG from the SMR disks. Edit: looks the RAID card was smart not letting you use SMR and PMR on the same RAID.

I have an HP and I think that it does not allow SAS and SATA drives to be mixed. You can do two (or more) volumes if you want.
