Cornell once said that he wrote the line, "No one sings like you any more," in "Black Hole Sun" in reference to John Lennon (fitting, in such a Beatle-oid ballad); ironically, that very line serves today as his self-penned epitaph.
Limo Wreck is a masterpiece. There is something clear to me that a hand full of songs from Superunknown alone are singular in their strength & longevity. I purchased the album upon its release and couldn’t get over how powerful it was. Amidst so many great albums being released during the period, my ears never tired of that track aside Mailman, Head Down, Like Suicide, Born On The Fourth Of July & The Day I Tried To Live. My favorite Soundgarden album and one of my favorite of all time.
This Man has done everything and more to my soul music wise When I saw Soundgarden this last July I cried when they played 4 Of July. and for Audioslave their song Getaway Car just has this feeling of inner depth when your feeling low and out of your element that just makes you ponder on life. anything that Chris has done and will do is real whatever people think.
You Know My Name from the Casino Royale soundtrack (and then Carry On) is one of my favorite songs ever recorded. Chris Cornell can do whatever the hell he wants in my book, I'll respect him.
I don't think he's underrated, nor is Soundgarden. I think they appeal to certain audience and I notice that every SG fan I know has a higher than average IQ, more insightful than the norm. Sure you're going to get a pimply faced teenage with more to prove than good taste who's stay stupid things here, bring up Justin Beiber and shit, but the real fans are generally exceptionally cool people.
Such a beautiful soul. ❤ Yes, you were a prophet and sometimes you knew it, but mostly the Universe was moving through you to communicate a message via your lyrics, one that would come to fruition much later.
C mon he s much more than just beautiful,i mean look at his videos from 91,92..his hair and chest..even his bandmates say that his chests were wow..check on interview with eddie vedder and stone gossard😂
As may be, but Cornell always gave an impression of down-to-earth humility, as if he truly wasn't aware of how attractive and charismatic he was, but just saw himself as another human being who made music; I wish I could have met him, if only to have thanked him for some of the most powerful music I'll ever experience. Perhaps that refusal to consider himself all that made him even more attractive; regardless, now he belongs to the ages, alas.
@trevLV I feel ya bro! I don't like Chris's new solo album but I wouldn't say that he sold out by making it. If anything he's doing exactly the opposite. A lot of people have looked down on his newest album because he wasn't playing hard rock. He played what he wanted to play not what others wanted him to play. That's the opposite of selling out.
Experimenting is great, change things up! Soundgarden thrived on not using the same time measures. However, not everything needs to be recorded and sold.
I can see both sides to some degree. I think there should be an instantly recognizable element to all of an artist's music. Whether it be when they are 18 and fresh or 58 and seasoned. I don't think they should completely abandon their younger selves.
I blame the bad PCP trip he had as a young teen, he didn't leave the house afterwards for TWO YEARS. It damaged his mental health. (I heard this on one of the Howard Stern interviews he did. I had a girlfriend in high school who did a lot of PCP and the stories she would relate were very scary. Like playing with fire.)
Chris Cornell suffered from chronic depression, which both inspired some of his most potent lyrics ("Fell On Black Days," say) and ground away at his spirit until that fateful night in Detroit. Speaking as a devoted fan who has also been clinically depressed for most of my life, I feel for the weight on his soul, but ache for the loss borne by his family and friends and, to lesser degree, all of us who loved his music and, through that, cared about him.
I think he was "suicided" by bad people who didn't like what his or Chester Bennington's Foundations are/were doing to help sex crime & sex traffic victims.
there is no right or wrong path for him to follow, it's just the quality and essence isn't as strong and eye-opening in the MUSIC. You're right, he is a person and he changes, it doesn't mean his music was more aesthetically pleasing. And sellout is essentially just a word for people who don't like the change.
Know the sense of life?, I dunno what that means to even reply. He is right, when you are young you obviously haven't had many life experiences, you grow, have kids, see the world grow up and change a little along the way. Not that hard of a concept to grasp.
@Radz117 "Embarrassing"?.. Yeah,whatever..Maybe he should just make 5 records in a row, that sound EXACTLY like Badmotorfinger... We, as humans, dont adapt well to change. But, wouldnt it be a little boring. if everything sounded the same?..
Im a big Soundgarden fan. I love Chris. Even Soundgarden B sides sounded so great. Maybe Chris is just experimenting his music into different types right now and exploring new sounds. Hands All Over, Heretic, Flower, Cold Bitch, Searching with my Good Eye Closed, and many more Soundgarden songs rock. I miss the grunge Chris with the long hair and the boots lol.
Good interview I found it interesting how his views on the meanings of a song are so similar to the way alice in chains' jerry cantrell and layne staley describe songs' meanings in their interview following the release of 'sap' type in jerry layne sap to see the interview
I love when artists mature, change their style, and then are labeled a "sellout" by idiots...its very simple..when you are young, broke and struggling, you see the world one way..Then you mature(hopeully),make some money, maybe fall in love, marry, and have children..You THEN see the world in another way..its a natural progression..Am I the onlly person who sees this???
@bamboosa While your statement is undoubtedly applicable in many cases and I don't happen to know Cornell personally, isn't it a bit unfair to judge him so based on this video? Shouldn't you consider, after all, that he is being interviewed and being ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HIMSELF!!! It's not like he's got a RUclips channel on which he constantly raves about himself.... Does he?
@soundvomit Damn right! And now we've got Soundgarden back together so all the haters can just quit it, for now at least, and enjoy the best of all worlds.
@trevLV I see this. It seems like every band that changes when they get older are slammed for not doing what they did in the 80s. But, it's not the 80's. The past is past and the present is now lol.
@trevLV Nope. I do. Furthermore, I enjoy when artists evolve and change and aren't afraid to stray from the path and push the envelope. I didn't like "Scream" either (although the live version of Long Gone with a band is cool) but I think he should absolutely feel free to do it and its hard not to appreciate his amazing and varied voice on anything he does.
But when he does break out of his rusty cage and run - by experimenting within other genres - you don't like it. Too many people want their heroes frozen in time - or in other words, caged.
NO REALISING IN EVERY KIND OF WAY. REALLY IT IS FUNNY. BUT YEAH THE IDEA TO CATER TO ANOTHER PERSONS EAR FOR THEIR ENJOYMENT ALL THE TIME MUST BE TIRING. PLUS HE ADDED THAT ALL THAT OLD STUFF JUST BRONG UP TOO MANY MEMORIES. THAT WAS HIS YOUNG DAYS. HES MATURE AND HES SEEING THAT.
@LumierexCosmic There's nowt wrong with having an opinion such as thine, for that is how we advanced as a planet in our own right. What is your opinion on the possibility of life elsewhere?
"yes... because your an idiot who lose your ideals" that makes no sense. And if you're going to go around calling idiots, you might want to start with constructing a proper sentence. He is right by the way.
@RamAbballah that's totally not what i said.... any of that. you make it sound as if im talking about the jonas brothers or something. how do you sell albums and have fans and still be an artist.if you start to split hairs and concentrate on not being a sellout to that extreme dosnt that make it not art.the way you explained it, i guess your just better off writing poems in your bedroom without anyone ever having access to it.or make one album and not being able to afford a follow up.
@dragonstyle79 You, sir, are obviously not an artist of any kind. You absolutely make art for yourself first. An artist will do what they do whether they are paid or not. When you sell your soul to a record company and make the music they want and that the fans like you want, THEN you are a redundant sellout. This doesn't mean that a band shouldn't care about their fans, but you can't make music asking yourself "Is everybody gonna be cool with this or will they make fun of me?"
we'll never have another artist as so spectacular as Chris
Cornell once said that he wrote the line, "No one sings like you any more," in "Black Hole Sun" in reference to John Lennon (fitting, in such a Beatle-oid ballad); ironically, that very line serves today as his self-penned epitaph.
Sad but i feel it's true
Yes there will
I still can't believe we have lost Chris, it's unbelievable. He gifted us so much amazing music. RIP Chris, we miss you.
Saw him live in 2014. I'm forever grateful that I went to see a show before his unfortunate fate. RIP and Soundgarden forever.
Chris Cornell RIP😘 You won’t be forgotten anytime soon my friend
still listen to badmotorfinger every single fuckin day
lies
EVERY WORD I SAID IS WHAT I MEAN
I could listen to him talk for hours! ❤️missing you in 2021 Chris❤️
Missing Chris in 2023
🤍🕊️🤍
Saw soundgarden in 1992, incredible performance!

My favorite Soundgarden album and one of my favorite of all time.
Chris Cornell & Mike Patton are two of the most powerful singers we have...they can sing their asses off. Wish there were more like them.
RIP Chris Cornell
Chris Cornell is my favourite (living) vocalist in rock. His voice, and his songwriting are unmatched for me.
😢
Limo Wreck is an amazing song Chris, don't do yourself down, it is prophetic!
Nothing will do me in before I do myself...
You Know My Name from the Casino Royale soundtrack (and then Carry On) is one of my favorite songs ever recorded. Chris Cornell can do whatever the hell he wants in my book, I'll respect him.
I FUCKING LOVE CHRIS CORNELL!
I don't think he's underrated, nor is Soundgarden. I think they appeal to certain audience and I notice that every SG fan I know has a higher than average IQ, more insightful than the norm. You're cool 😎
higher IQ , not this guy but love the music , lol
he talks in the laid back pace and attitude of his music
he always looked nicely tanned over the years
Such a beautiful soul. ❤ Yes, you were a prophet and sometimes you knew it, but mostly the Universe was moving through you to communicate a message via your lyrics, one that would come to fruition much later.
Chris cornell 💕 born to rock ❣️ gone to soon 💕 RIP angel ❤️
Chris Cornell is beautiful. A lot of rockers are "HOT" or "SEXY" but he's just beautiful.
C mon he s much more than just beautiful,i mean look at his videos from 91,92..his hair and chest..even his bandmates say that his chests were wow..check on interview with eddie vedder and stone gossard😂
Thats true, but amazing vocalists come out of every era. What matters is this was during OUR lifetimes.
RIP
Very well said by beautiful Chris. I always agree with the things he says in his interviews. What a smart, talented, beautiful guy!
im not homosexual or anything but chris cornell is a good lookin dude lol
Josh Man tell us something we don't, know 💟

That boy was finer than a frog hair split three ways.
Chris = the best
Stick Figures that say NO. Priceless.
Such a gorgeous guy and gone way to soon
the Man said point blank....a song has life, way past it's creator......Thanks C C......will never know you but the music helps...

lol "Stick figures that say NO!"
He's a genius....
he's so cooool and he's still a hottieeee :)
@soundvomit "Tickles his pickle" that's fucking brilliant! I'll be using that from now on. cheers mate.
Miss you, Chris 😢
Experimenting is great, change things up! Soundgarden thrived on not using the same time measures. However, not everything needs to be recorded and sold.
Chris was a prophet. He just didn't know it. RIP

oh man chris why did you do it...
I blame the bad PCP trip he had as a young teen, he didn't leave the house afterwards for TWO YEARS. It damaged his mental health.

Show your Loud Love for Chris Cornell 💚
Yeah well fuck. Everyone gets tried of breaking out of their cage. Chris is cool, and he just does his thing.
Know the sense of life?, I dunno what that means to even reply. He is right, when you are young you obviously haven't had many life experiences, you grow, have kids, see the world grow up and change a little along the way. Not that hard of a concept to grasp.
im gunna see soundgarden in like 2 weeks !!

Amazing how some very talented people can be the most, well, self absorbed and boring people on the planet. I am lucky to have ruthless friends.
I was so uberly in love with Chris Cornell when I was a teenager. .......I dont think uberly is a word but.....oh well....
Whats new? The old band members came back and made a great album.
I wish Chris had carried on. :(
Henry Rollins can eat my pickle any day, he can smash my pumpkins.
❤️😪
@ReJected1122 He was getting away from a rapist in that song.
Chris is a prophet and he doesn't even know it.
I just noticed that he sings with non-rhotic accent but talks with rhotic accent in the interviews. Anybody knows why?
Huh? That's true of a lot singers. How often do you hear singers really enunciating their Rs?
People change so then does the music
@bamboosa

@soundvomit i agree but when you sell albums your not just making music for yourself.
wgat does 'sst' mean?
I sure miss that voice
i meant 'what.' and it's in reply to
thailow117
Sunshine, rainbows and candy. :D
@trevLV I see this.
It seems like every band that changes when they get older are slammed for not doing what they did in the 80s.
But, it's not the 80's. The past is past and the present is now lol.
not sure if im making complete sense to ya'll. just trying to say what people HEAR isn't as exciting as it was in the 90s.
fair enough
6:01 "We're not worthy, we're not worthy!"
They did play it live. Multiple times. And making a song for a movie is wrong?
@trevLV
Nope. I do. Furthermore, I enjoy when artists evolve and change and aren't afraid to stray from the path and push the envelope. @grindcrusher74
no idea about what?
you hate euphoria morning?
I think Cornell has earned the right to grow facial hair however the fuck he wants.
I have a feeling he does not really care about what you think. Some cheek telling him what to do with his hair!!
Well, what do you expect??? He's the one being interview!?
NO REALISING IN EVERY KIND OF WAY. REALLY IT IS FUNNY. BUT YEAH THE IDEA TO CATER TO ANOTHER PERSONS EAR FOR THEIR ENJOYMENT ALL THE TIME MUST BE TIRING. PLUS HE ADDED THAT ALL THAT OLD STUFF JUST BRONG UP TOO MANY MEMORIES. THAT WAS HIS YOUNG DAYS. HES MATURE AND HES SEEING THAT.
you and thousand people too :(
check out his acoustic performance of Scream. Its fucking amazing .

@LumierexCosmic There's nowt wrong with having an opinion such as thine, for that is how we advanced as a planet in our own right. What is your opinion on the possibility of life elsewhere?
the song Live to Rise is so good they wont play it live....thats their cash cow from the Avengers...remember?
netrioter oh no a musician wanted to make money to live and continue making music. How terrible.
They played it 22 times
Please dont state your opinion as being fact. Alot of people enjoy this video and find it interesting
"yes... because your an idiot who lose your ideals" that makes no sense. And if you're going to go around calling idiots, you might want to start with constructing a proper sentence. He is right by the way.
UMMM! UMM!
It'd be good name for a band "stick figures that say no"
Because....YOU ARE ORPHEUS!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES!!!! 💎🐉🌈💗💓💖⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
@dalmanation yes-sir-right-away-sir .. : - )
because he wasn't feeling like that person.
@ReJected1122 People change. It's inevitable.
@soundvomit *this comment tickles my pickle*
You mean the guy from that movie "Rock Star"?
"Stand up and shout!!"
What a terrible comparison!
yo, dats Timbalands bro, word!
Its not that he made a pop album, its that the pop album stinks.
@dragonstyle79
