- West Texas, just the name invokes images of tumble weeds, oil derricks, towering plateaus. It's iconic, it's legendary, and above all, it's big. Big Spring

i toured the Settles in '87, while working for the Herald. It was a wreck. The results of the renovation are awesome.
As a born-and-raised "Big Springer," I loved every minute of this episode. It was asked if anything was missed... if time had allowed it would have been great to see the Municipal Auditorium, the amphitheater, and our poinsettias. Thank you for highlighting the positives of Big Spring! (P.S. Tacos are folded, and burritos are rolled 😉).
Can you go swimming in the rivers in big spring? Or where would you recommend? I’m staying in west Odessa, somewhere close by please
Born and raised here...and will die here. I love my little hometown. It's not the bustling town it was when Webb AFB was here, but it's still home.
I'm happy to see you are still documenting how Texas is, because I'm convinced this will all go away and we will only have these videos to remember how good it once was.
You should do a Then and Now price comparison show. Go to your first restaurants and compare the prices and portions to today, then calculate the inflation of each and then the overall inflation. Myself, I haven't eaten out in over a year, because I don't agree with the prices. Even Subway and Dairy Queen are ridiculously high. Nope, not me, not any more, I cook at home.
Be blessed.
Hell yeahhhh my two brothers are in this episode!! 23:53 So proud of them!!
BSHS class of 71. I think it was the largest class to graduate/ over 500. Miss the wonderful way I grew up!
Were you a Air Force brat? I was and your name sounds very familiar, I would have been BSHS Class of 72.
@@jfsnyder15 nope! My sister Patricia Hicks was in your class. She married one of those airmen our mother warned us about! Hicks was our maiden name.
Dells Cafe
@@ShuliIsAHack Friday shrimp special
My home town! Very well done team. Thanks for highlighting so much of the rich history. Glad to see you ended your time in the Pharmacy Bar at the Hotel Settles.
I wanna go stay at this GORGEOUS HOTEL!🤩
I was born and raised in Big Spring. I could not wait to leave that place. Once the Air base closed down it was never the same. I now live in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and can not see myself ever going back to West Texas
Smart move. We live in Midland currently for my spouses job and can't wait to get back to the Hill Country-where we are from and family is.
@@mrandmrs.p3635😊
I was born in big spring now leave in California miss my home town
The Air Force base being there and going to school with the Air Force brats is why 3 of us in my family joined and retired from the service.
I now live in NE Texas because I needed the real tall trees to enjoy.
Do you know the famous Kandi Klanton and KKK Computers?
Now we're booking a room at the Hotel Settles.
John Voight's "Midnight Cowboy" was filmed in Big Spring
No only a few minutes of him leaving town.
VERY well done!
Wish they restored the movie theatre downtown.
Apparently, it's in the works.
@@az_imagez1517 spent many Friday nights with friends at the old Ritz!
I love west Texas. It's so beautiful out there. My aunt and uncle lived in Bronte not too far from Big Spring and it blew my mind every time we went out there. Thanks as usual for bringing Texas to us :)
One of the best episodes,I love Texas!!!
Burrito Express 👑 lol should’ve captured the cigar bar too that place is here to stay
Chet rockin' the stash. Oh, yeah!
The hotel was awesome but when you went out on the rooftop i had some serious vertigo, seriously
I used to live there , it was a nice place to live. I would go back if I could
This was an awesome episode Chet. My dad is born and raised in Big Spring, and the only time I ever saw that hotel was in shambles. Kinda showed me some heritage stuff I didnt know about.
This was really good. I grew up in Big Spring (BSHS '83) and back then, the Settles was just a place for kids to explore at night and throw bricks off the roof onto the street below. I do remember going to the cafe in the 'bad old Settles' with my dad before the hotel finally closed, it was a dump at that point. I remember Brint from high school, looks like he did okay. I've not been back to Big Spring in decades but who knows, maybe someday!
Big Spring. A town with so much potential but no one to care for her. Lived there for 7 years and just left, the people don't care, and the politicians are insane, and the people who do care, although they try, there's just not enough.
Yep, nobody gives a rats rear.
I lived there a year and left a month ago. People are so different there. And not in a good way. Was just not a happy place to live in my opinion.
@@honey4boo1013different how? I've lived here my whole life it's hard to compare it to other places.
@@truthjunkie63Same, I don’t really see the problem with Big Spring? Was born and raised here my entire life and the community is great, wonderful town spirit, and as long as you live in the right areas it is a safe place to live.
Great episode as always. As an aside, there is a Big Springs in East Texas; much smaller little town but with the S.
Take your passenger to Guadalupe Peak. Push him. See if falls or tumbles.
My hometown. I heard you were here from the park ranger I kept looking for this episode. Yea Big Spring has failed to bring back the downtown unfortunately! I also was updated that the state is going to take the top off of the cave in the park but put a protective barrier around it but make it available For the bats. I’m interested to when that’s gonna happen. Another Great job on an episode. Stay safe stay healthy
Big Spring not to be confused with Big Springs 😂
Same place. Different years.
True Enough, There was a time when the offical name of the town was, in fact: "Big Springs"
Moving from WA to TX, my son and I stopped in at Settles for chicken fried steak. So good! Thanks for the recommendation!
Dude, Mount Livermore 8,378 feet, Guadeloupe Peak 8,750 feet. Enjoy the “roll”
"There's 2 of everything, Sir" Hilarious
This is a great episode. In spite of my vertigo.
Glad google put this on my feed. Live in BigSpring, you should have stopped at Tio Lenchos.
There is no mountain in Texas? What about the Guadalupe mountain????
One of my favorite places.
Jeanie (sp?) Canales must be a sweet lady. She exudes happiness!
Looks like the dust is hard to keep up with in Big Springs, too. Having aircraft in a hangar out here must be a nightmare for the curator.
Franklin Mountins are in Texas
Tacos are folded in half and burritos have the ends folded in and are then rolled
1:27 Wow…not certain what to think about that ‘stache’…kinda look like a extra from ‘Lonesome Dove’
ok I've missed something? When did you get the JR hat?
that being said was there also a who shot Chet content I missed lol
Chet has white hair now 😮 🇸🇴🇵🇱
The town of apine has a mountain
Sad to hear the spring is dead. Isn’t progress wonderful?
@@jamesbueker11 that spring has been dead since before I lived there as a child. I’m 71!
Yeap. It's a water well now.
Bruh there's NO WAY that burrito and taco is a debate...🤦🤡
Its horrible now
I noticed that you never film black persons neither native American persons.
Are you diabetic ?
Booo. A guy doing videos on Texas that doesn’t know the difference between a burrito and a taco? (Maybe should stick with gumbo and jambalaya) And doesn’t seem to know the Davis Mountains are in Texas? And does a video on Big Spring and doesn’t mention the oldest Harley-Davidson dealership in Texas is there? I’ll pass on this channel.
Grew up here and I’m glad you focused on the most beautiful and humble parts.
I love big Spring. I stayed at the settles hotel one time. One of the funniest things about staying there when you wake up in the middle of the night and you have to go to the bathroom and you look outside and you see the windmills out there you see a bunch of little blinking lights. it’s the funniest thing in America. It’s hidden.
The Sandra Special is named after my mother in law!
The town where Clay Dougkaa Wears a yellow speedo!
Tio Lechos was our absolute favorite burrito place in Big Spring 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting my hometown through this episode. We moved to DFW after my father (who worked at Cosden) died. I love to go home every chance I get.
@@RJBlankenship my Dad worked there, too! He worked on the cat cracker, and was a pump mechanic. Remember the explosions? Pretty scary if your Dad was working there.
Oh my gosh, how I remember the explosions and wondering if Dad was ok. I was always so relieved when he would come home.
In south texas we call it breakfast tacos lol, going up there to west people look at you weird when you call burritos tacos
I'm surprised Clay Douglas wasnt even mentioned here. Wow!
Midland texas here
Omg this is so cool I literally ate woodshack today ! Yummy! But I think the biggest burritos in Big Spring are definitely the ones from Sunny Side Up 😁
Good show y'all. I stopped there once and had no idea they had all of this . Can't wait to go back because of you.
Grew up going to see my cousins there. Snuck out one night and got chased down the street by a tumbleweed. Fun times
Do not go to big spring unless you have a plan and you’re already financially stable in life
When will you drop your temple episode?????
I like seeing the crew.
We enjoyed your video as always!
I hate it here
Too bad cause you're stuck there forever.
Great episode! Now get rid of the mustache.
