awesome ! im enchanted by your voice and your looking fab as always ,totally agree on the space issue and drinking close to the dancers is dangerous sadly for those reasons I avoid a certain venue.More annoying is that some of the teachers are guilty as egos take over.
This is an excellent video! I just started taking classes and social dancing (salsa and bachata) and find it so helpful to have an insider's look into etiquette :) I love your personality!
Thanks for the tips. Definitely the leading role has important responsibilities: Mind the space, take care of the follower, lead movements, return the follower to the original location when finishing, have the follower shining and so, so lead, be responsible!
Etiquette is so important! What you said about space is so true. We judge others by their actions and ourselves on our intentions. Followers can also mind the space and hold the one leading back, if you see something happening behind his/her back.
My teachers often talk about etiquette (specially before a party) and how to not be unpleasant on the dance floor :) They also say that both people in the couple should look for each other, because sometimes the lead is looking for the lady, but it's not aware what's going on behind them - either because they are beginners, just not looking or because someone appeared behind them suddenly. It happened to me a couple of times to pull guys towards me because they were about to clash with the people behind them. So it's nice to do this for each other, since nobody has eyes on their back :)
One thing that winds me up is people who insist on walking *across* the dancefloor, instead of walking *around* it to get to the other side. Especially when it's busy. Personally, I always take a shower before I go to class or a social, even if I've already had one in the morning, and will take a flannel and a change of shirt. Unfortunately, people tend to get used to a smell and do not notice it after a while, so even if they whiff badly, they do not notice it themselves. So it will be helpful to them if you (gently) point it out. It is usually men that have this problem, but I have had it a few times with women. Yes, be aware of what's around you - someone was showing off on a busy dancefloor last year and hit me on my Achilles heel with the heel of his shoe, the result was me on crutches for over a week not being able to dance socially for over 5 months. Just started dancing again in time for the lockdown :( Venues - so true, so many times you will actually get turned away as soon as you say it's for a salsa night. It's incredibly difficult to find a venue here. it is soooo frustrating. So anyone who goes, please buy drinks at the venue! I know it costs more, but it really does help.
While I was in a city I'm only a semi regular, I was dancing in the "populsr" area, and lady cut right through me and my partner to say hi to s big wig. She didn't say excuse me. We dodnt exist to her. An example of why I dont respect "dj booth" dancers.
Hi Rasa, love your videos❤️ amazing. Prof, funny and sweet. Could you make one on (too much) alcohol in combination with social dance?Have discovered that's its an issue, unfortunately.. Kind regards
@@DanceWithRasa no stress, if/when you have time. Just some input based on my own experiences: When you dance with leaders who drank too much alcohol, there is a delay (in combination with the rhythm/music) since the response time is slower. Am not at all saying dance should be perfect and dance is all about happiness, 100%, but maybe those leaders are simply not aware. But again, only if / when you have time. Kind regards
Heyyy I feel so lucky to have you and watch your videos! You know in the dance courses they do teach how to dance but I haven’t been teaching these manners and etiquettes. I did drink in the dance floor in my first social because I was exactly doing the same thing in the night clubs and thought it was the same. Unfortunately I did it because nobody said it’s very rude and ugly behaviour 😢 I noticed it after I did it but yeah… Thanks for your video. A question: it’s easy to change T-shirts but what can we do if we dance with fancy dresses? You know it’s difficult to change dresses (I generally use iron and cannot put it to a bag) and I know I sweat 💦 I sometimes wear a jacket but it’s not comfortable. Any advice darling? Thank you SO MUCH for your great video! Kisses and hugs 🥰😘🤗♾️
I'm so glad you find my videos useful ☺️. With fancy dresses, it's more difficult. The only thing you can do is have a sweat towel or freshen up in the bathroom. Sweat is not bad if it's clean, so as long as you shower and perfume, it's not too bad 😉.
I gotta raise my hand on the "mind your space" tip. I always assume it's the other guy. I'm going to start being more accountable and open to the possibility that I'm the cause.
Hi Rasa, I have just discovered your channel and am amazed how much useful information you provide - huge thank you!!! Being quite new to salsa / bachata, when going to social I don't ask guys with a higher level for a dance. I feel that they would enjoy more dancing with partners of a higher level and by asking them to dance I am just stealing their pleasure. What the dancing etiquette says about that?
Hi, firstly I'm so glad you enjoying the channel 😇. Never be afraid of asking anybody to dance. We can not get into people's heads, we do not know who they want or don't to dance with, and your happiness is just as important as someone else's. So invite people to dance, smile , make sure you a warm and nice to all , and it will be ok 🤩.
I've danced with lots of women that have long false nails and rarely have a problem. With the current style of acrylic nails vthe tips and edges are nicely rounded so they don't catch or nick. I've rarely come across anyone with nails so long it's been a hinderance. The only time I can remember it being an issue was with one American teach many years ago but her nails were rediculously long, I'm certain they were an issue in normal life as well.
I try dont crash and i do it +- good, but some pp seems them are alone and take aloot of place, and them some times moves more arround this space and its super hard dance near and dont crash whit them 😓 are always taking more place, some times happen to whit ladys hands wen its not alot of place and use them far and hit pp 😅

I love your advices, i hate too when people are drinking alcohol in the dance floor.
Exactly, they should do it on the side, respect each others space 😉

Followers can also mind the space and hold the one leading back, if you see something happening behind his/her back.
See something say something 😂 yes I agree followers play a part I that as well , definitely 🤩

Can't find Rasa at a party? No problem, just have your drink in the middle of the dancefloor, and she'll come to you 😁😂
