Wow! I am the original creator of the 3D printed pop pop boat. It was 7 years ago since I published that video and put the files on Thingiverse. I was 19 at the time and just bought my first 3D printer. I have been a fan of your channel for a long time so it is really cool to see my design featured in your video.

Yes we did that pop boat long time ago also, but now it is up to another level - have grandchildren as an excuse, but my wife tell me - Jan, are going back to childhood? I am 72 now and still having a tube bath... life is the ability to play and be amazed by the physics... The boat is plopping around in the foam.

Bath time couldn't be more fun.
Good fun project and thank you for a clear making of the boat.

I liked the idea of trying to press-fit parts together instead of having to traditionally glue or solder them, like your attempt with the aluminum diaphragm.

Great I love this myfordboy I made one of these as well when I was a kid. I would love to see you make a cotton reel tank ok I know this is not anything to do with metal work but I would love to see your take on how you used to make a cotton reel tank.

ok, so how about take the hemispherical bottom from 2 cans, cut at 3/4 inch vertical and wrap a 2.5 inch strap around the perimeter, seal with hi temp adhesive, cut tabs in the wrap piece and fold over to hold the halves in place. can add 1/8 pop rivets to cinch it all up while the glue dries. cut thin sheet aluminum to replace the plastic piece that melted, use phenolic washers to reduce the heat transfer.

That could work although I think the volume would be too large and sealing would be difficult.
I have just finished a new design that solves the sealing problem and will upload in the future.t

I wonder how big of a pop pop boat could be made? I just watched Steve Mould's explanation on how these boats work. I am now wondering where tipping points is before the boat is too big to work.

Brilliant 👍👍👍 I remember playing about with these when I was a kid. I think they used a single loop of small copper pipe. Cheers, Alan.

There is a use for all your used C02 cartridges. There are designs for engines using these. Just one or two pipes soldered into the cartridge.

Great little project but very predictable that the ABS frame components would fail due to heat on the final version. It does make me wonder at times when i see the poor understanding of what material choices are fit for the job and those that are predictably not so.
