Technically, this wasn't a Jugalbandi. Jugalbandi is more like when instruments imitate each other's phrases. This was a typical composition (often called a "brandish"), where Tabla is only accompanying Santoor, and not repeating it's phrases (or vice versa).
See, that's the thing about Indian Classical music. Every piece is unique. Almost the entire thing is created on stage.
Indi, while listening to the video, I noticed that your reaction was mostly , doing the famous "Indian head shake"!! NOW do you know where we Indians get it from? Listening to such DIVINE music right from childhood!
My first concert ever for Indian classical music was Ustad Zakhir Hussain and Rahul Sharma, in Minneapolis MN, it was so beautiful, I could not hold back my tears. I left the concert hall a different person that day! Made more determined to start learning Sarangi and I did :)

Thats called Jugalbandi.... they are living legends... they have been performing since they were kids... this is the kind of music that will cure various diseases... it will release lot of tensions... relaxes your mind... its alcoholic, sorry to use this word but really its mesmerizing... you should visit India, travel to know lots of mysteries around... plan min of 6 months...

Indian classical music is all about "improvissation". Which is a hard task to do, for live performers.

My salute to the duo Ustadji & young Sharma. This is a Jugalbandi. Fight between two musicians. Every time they are showing their ability and command over the instruments to opposite persons music how he is equivalent or better. Not at pre-scrpted.
I am also an tabla player i know we just chill and play with the instruments . Just chill
jakir hussain's tabla & south indian mridangam the drum instruments are always considered a side instrument to aid few string instruments like sitar & saraswati veena. yes, they won't do any rehersals before the consert, they won't even share what raga or song they're going to play on the stage, the music is all spontaneous.

The Santoor player name is Rahul kumar sharma. He is the son of the world famous and title holder Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma. Zakir Hussain played with Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and his son as well. You heard Zakir Hussein and the son of a legend. Listen to the legend and Zakir Hussain.
Hi indi it's called jugalbandi it means that two perfection person come and make the competition. Without any idea or practice together.
And they are diamonds of our country.
the actual reason for their synchronization is they were playing "raga" (a predefined set of tunes).
That is the strength of indian classical or hindusthani ragas. Those who studied all ragas will come into mind automatically
It's total improvise and they are making a poetry of notes with each other

I have seen and heard live Zakir ji in Berklay CA. I guess that is his home town. Rahul is Music director in Bollywood and really wonderful Santoor player. Treat to hear the jugalbandi from the mastro.

@Indi Rossi since you seemed interested in Indian classical music, this is what you call a Raaga being presented and Raagas are always presented afresh each time they are played. So yeah in western terms they are just jamming and that's the beauty of Indian classical music.
In Indian Classical Music 96% is spontaneous on stage and unrehearsed. The 4% left are the compositions and the beats pattern. That's all. The rest in instant. And yes this is like an on stage jam.
There timing was so good": that's what actually Indian music is all about, not just music but matching everything upto each others music beats.
