      In my own experience, there comes a time when you can't update the software (or the provider won't support an older set). I managed to force COSTCO to do one final update on my rather old Rexton aids so I might keep them as back-ups. They were resistant but sympathized.

    Dr Cliff, I sure was hoping that your announcements about the new features would have included CROS capability. With all of these features, those of us who need CROS are being left behind. Love my Phonak hearing aids! Would love them better if I could get the Marvel with CROS! My audiologist let me use a Marvel demo as I am in the process of updating my hearing aids and now I hate the thought of having to wear a streamer again or change from android to iphone. Please encourage Phonak to release the Marvel with CROS. Thanks for the great update on the Marvel!

Like you, I’m toting around a second piece of hardware, the Com Pilot II (audio advised AGAINST the Air model) for streaming. Feels like we’ve been regulated to the Windows 95 era of computers, eh?

    Dr. Cliff...I'm soon to head off to a professional hearing exam (Kaiser Permanente) and will probably leave the Costco kingdom behind (am using Costco's name brand now). You do a wonderful job of selling this Phonak Marvel, and I intend to ask about it, see it, try it out, etc., but I have to admit that I wonder about your own excitement for this product because you are probably paid by the company. I guess I would really prefer to hear totally unbiased reviews, especially since these things can still be quite pricey. In any case, thanks for the information!

      I got my first set of hearing aids from Costco. It was a ReSound brand. Caela8. I Was really I was really happy with that pair. about two years later, just recently they came out with the Kirkland brand 9.0 which is made by the same company that makes the audeo marvel. from everything I've read and from what I can tell it is pretty much the same hearing aid it is just a d featured. It does not have Rodger capability. My hearing is not that bad so I don't need that. It does not have the sound loop for public places but you generally only find that in Europe. Very seldom see it here in the States. It also is not rechargeable but I'm young enough that I have excellent finger dexterity. Anyway I bought them and they were only $1,500 and they are absolutely amazing. They adjust themselves in lots of different situations and you still do have some adjustments. I'm thrilled with my decision and just wanted to tell you before you leave Costco you might want to consider? Best of luck to you.

      No problem Dinesh. I disclose all sponsorships twice in each video that has a sponsor. Aside from that, I have 3 manufacturer sponsors - Phonak, Widex, and Signia. Doctor Cliff, AuD My audio says her Phonak rep isn’t hopeful for Marvel to become CROS capable. I’m disappointed that Phonak has for all intents and purposes, abandoned the Phonak Remote Control app used by Com Pilot II/Air CROS users. It’s amazing that a leading edge company would allow such a poorly designed app to be released and then just let it sit there for more than 3 years un-updated. Their competitors are eating Phonak’s lunch in the app world! The single sided deafness community is being ignored, it appears, by Phonak when they don’t add the functionality available in the Marvel line.

    • @mawa89g
      @mawa89g 5 лет назад

      according to my information, CROS simply needs too much energy with the Marvel chip, because it would have to be transmitting via bluetooth permanently and thus Phonak can not (yet) guarantee that the battery/accumulator would "bring you over the day". The Phonak CROS B (the device running the preceding Belong-chip) uses NFMI to trasmit the signal, which needs very little energy.
      But Phonak is among the best for "special" cases like CROS, so probably there will come a solution given some time.

If I understand correctly the autosense program selects what it believes to be the most appropriate program, so what is the benefit of loading a subset of these programs for manual selection ? In the video about the 7 best hearing aides mentioned a firmware update to turn on the Roger transmitter on Phonak marvel hearing aides. Will this be done automatically or is it something you have to pay for? Any help would be great , thank you

    I'm confused about RogerDirect. I understand a firmware update us required to enable RogerDirect. Once enabled can the Marvel hearing aid use any of the existing Roger accessories or do the Roger accessories need a firmware update as well or do you need a newer version of the Roger accessory?
    Having spoken with Phonak customer report I was left with the impression the currently available Roger accessories would not work with Marvel hearing aids but I can't find anything stating that fact.

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  5 лет назад

      Hey Roger. Roger Receivers are already built-in to all Marvel devices. After the Firmware update, you will still need to order a Roger Receiver to install the software into your Marvel devices. Once the installation is completed, your Marvel devices would be directly compatible with all Roger Accessories. There will be an additional cost for the Roger Install, but not for the Firmware upgrade to Marvel 2.0. Does this make sense?

      @@DrCliffAuD , How much will the additional Roger Install costs?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  5 лет назад

      @@stephenriley6632 That is a loaded question. It depends on if you want Roger for School FM systems or Roger for the Pen/Select/Table Mic 2? If it is for school, you will need to purchase 2 Roger X (03) receivers which can likely cost over $800 per receiver, to be uploaded into the Marvels. If you are looking to only use a Roger Pen/Select/Table Mic2, then you need to purchase the iN devices that can cost over $1,300 per device depending on where you go. However, the iN devices have the receivers already loaded into them and will activate the receivers inside of your Marvels, no need to purchase any Roger X (02) receivers. Hopefully that made sense.

    • @ranord50
      @ranord50 5 лет назад

      @@DrCliffAuD I'm still confused Dr. Cliff. I'm interested in the Roger for the Pen/Select/Table Mic 2. Where I'm confused is in addition to these devices I need to purchase a Roger receiver as well. So what do you do with the receiver? I thought that function was included in the Marvel hearing aid and activated with the firmware.

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  5 лет назад

      @@ranord50 you need the software installed. The software to activate the receivers is either inside the Roger "iN" accessories, or you can purchase two Roger X receivers that hold the software.

      Marvels are IP68 rated which is the highest rating you can get for a hearing aid. They withstand moisture well, but as with any piece of electronics, you still should be careful around water.

      My audiologist preferred the acrylic ones... and said there were pros and cons to the titanium version (though she told me I could have them). I can't recall the down-side, but I got the acrylic ones.

    • @kartgal
      @kartgal 5 лет назад

      The downside is probably that titianium can’t be modified in the office. If it doesn’t fit right, the audiologist would need to send it back to phonak to be remade. With acrylic, it can easier be grounded down or built up in the office.

    • @kartgal
      @kartgal 5 лет назад

      The upside to titanium is that it’s more durable and can be made smaller and more precisely than acrylic.

    This channel seemed like an independent resource in a market that is difficult to navigate because the main source of information and guidance are people whose job is to sell you a hearing aid. But doing a sponsored video for a hearing aid makes this channel a less independent resource for people with hearing loss.

    These aren’t great advances. All hearing aids are crap. Yes they’re better than nothing, but never enough clarity to understand what people are actually saying. All you hear is mumbling coming from their mouths, even if you’re watching a film in a loud movie theatre, can’t understand what they’re saying. Of course, I’m referring to people with severe hearing loss (like me) that don’t want to wear hearing aids that are visible to the public. I still have to watch movies on tv or you tube videos with subtitles, despite spending $8,000.00 AUD on complete in the ear hearing aids. Supposedly the “most advanced” hearing aids on the market and the smallest in size. All a load of garbage. It’s so disappointing.
