    Weekend Wankshop 170 reveals some of my favorite secrets for playing minor pentatonic scale shapes all over the neck of your guitar! This is one of the most important tricks you can learn to take your playing to the next level. The concept is easy enough to understand, even if you don't have a ton of music theory knowledge. You'll also learn a scorching lick to help you put these concepts to use right away.
    This lesson is based around C#minor pentatonic in several different positions, using root notes across all your strings instead of just relying on the low E all the time like a lot of players do. Learn those dang notes across all your strings, kids!
    this lick is also a troy grady/cracking the code style downward pick slanting delight.
    Playing my G&L Legacy with burnt and destroyed finish by me. Fralin Split Rail pickups into my Kemper Profiler.
    Thanks for watching!!!

      Crowther exactly no one else explains shit especially off of the low e especially about the b string thing.. they just fly through it cuz they already understand it but most the online teachers are so bad at explaining why things are where and what they are on the board and ways to retain this info. Just from how helpful this video was I’m gonna look to see if Ben has a beginner scale video so I can relearn them from him so I can remember more than the a minor like he said

    Your videos have helped me improve more with advanced guitar techniques in the last year than I've been able to do on my own in the last decade. Thanks to you, the bank gave me my car back for cleaning up my sweeps, my wife came back to me for getting my hand synchronization on point and now, I'm really hoping my dog will come back to life after I get those sweet scales going all over the neck.

    You have a very good way of explaining this stuff-the kind of stuff that always intimidated me as a kid, and continues to as an adult. And even though i can understand what's happening, i can't imagine a time when i'll be able to know and remember it all at a level that would let me work with it in 'real time.' Shredding baffles me! I don't have the memory/mind for it 'at my age.' I need to just take it glacially slow, and hope i can retain things toward when it gets to be intuitive. Thank you for this perspective.

    Glad I found your videos.... you really explain things very clear and I've been playing 40 years... never too old to learn new things....I consider myself a hack because I never can sit down and just practice...my attention span is very short. I get in the habit of watching lessons that are way too advanced for my skill level and end up just watching. With your lessons I actually keep playing along and learn stuff that I should know in my sleep by now. Thanks for your help!!!!! Now maybe I can be that rock star I always dreamed about being 😂 😂 😂

    When you take into account you can play the same note in 12 different places, licks like this become a lot clearer and funner, hectic lesson man!

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 6 лет назад

      You must be counting octaves, otherwise it would be 6 places (on a 24 fret guitar) for the lowest note and 5 (or less) places for the others. Example: High E (329.63 Hz)
      24th fret, 6th string; 19th fret, 5th string; 14th fret, 4th string; 9th fret, 3rd string; 5th fret, 2nd string; Open, 1st string

    • @Dogmanfogman
      @Dogmanfogman 6 лет назад

      Monster RAM I am actually, considering the lick shown spans from the first octave of the neck to the second, it just made more sense to say 12 than 6, (ex. 5th On the low E and 17 are both A notes, so yes, I’m counting octaves) but I never thought about it your way, interesting stuff man👌

    This was a great video, Uncle Ben! One of the most informative lessons ever. So, by knowing where the root notes are, you can play the pentatonic scale all over the fretboard, but you don't necessarily need to know the other box shapes. This builds them in with some simple knowledge, just beware of that dumb B-string!

    These all fit within the 5 pentatonic scale shapes perfectly. Really nice technique to make moving around a little faster if you do not have all the scale shapes down across the neck in all positions perfectly (cause that ain't easy) but can work out the notes quickly.

    Awesome vids Mr Eller! When I was much younger I became firmly entrenched in box shapes, all rooted from the low E. I haven’t played in so very long and I admit, I’ve been confined to the boxed in way of thinking. I’m much older now and have finally found the time to start working on this again. Yeah, I’m the “step dad” persona you refer to but I’m plodding through with great inspiration! I thank you for generously posting this educational material! Btw, any disciple of Paul Gilbert is someone I’ll pay close attention to. Keep the vids coming, and thanks! Merry Christmas!
