Great case, great video... ...reminds me of my internship at an architect 30 years ago, where I built dozens of models from cardboard... :-) I also started with cardboard cases for my eurorack system, helped to keep the cost down and find out what I need... now I make cases from folded aluminium sheets...
@@JensPaldam No, I don't use instagram... I'm currently starting to build two new cases (1x126hp, 1x42hp) and I will document the building process. As soon as I'm done, I will post some pictures on the modwiggler DIY cases thread... I'll let you know... The one aluminium case that I've built is not perfect, but I like it. There is still some room for improvement, so if someone else is taking my ideas any further, I would be very interested in the outcome...
Absolutely incredible. The well thought-out process and design, the craftsmanship, the music... all of it is top-notch. Thanks for sharing this with us. Nice touch using the brayer to put some texture on the case :)
I cant help thinking that the long winter nights of northern Europe make people take their handicrafts to much higher level than the quick fix artists around here. I am amazed at the quality and attention to detail in the making of this video and the units . Now its over a year you had them how are they holding up? Do you do any thing differently if you build one now? I am now playing the video back for the 7th time. love the soundtrack!
Thanks so much for those kind words. We sure have us some long winters here, and I always think that this is when I get to work FOR REAL so you are probably right. I still have 12U of cardboard cases working fine. I am building a new 6U cardboard case right now with a design based on some new techniques. I will make another shorter video for this at some point in the near future.
that's true, I'm trying to figure that out.But i saw that you can get a nice finish by sticking the paper on a very smooth surface like acryl or even glass. It depends of course on the glue you'r using.
For power supply, I recommend TipTop Audio 15V 2000mA External Power Supply. It’s build for the uZeus. Depending what the power sockets look like in the country you live in, you might need to buy an adapter. I bought mine trough Analogue Zone, where they had some that fit sockets in Denmark. The two things keeping the distance are 1hp blind panels from Doepfer.
It will survive falling from table to floor. difficult to predict how well it would take a fist beating, I guess it depends on how much punch there is in you. Do your knuckles itch when you see a cardboard case?
Beautiful craftsmanship! I'd just be careful cutting with your straightedge on that incorrect side - your knife could slip easier and gash your hand. I've got a few stitches from cutting that way myself. The proper side of your straight edge will help prevent your blade from jumping ;)
Amazing video. the stop frame in time to music is class is the material used foam core art board? thinking of giving this a try myself i've got 2 rows of 84hp happy ending kit sitting naked on my desk :)
Cheers :) The cardboard is solid. Wasn't able to find out exactly what brand. I bought it in a paper supply store specialized in materials for architectural models, but it should be fairly easy to find. Feel free to write to me if you have any questions.
Hi Quentin, The side panels and wooden cheeks in the pdf have been created in 1:1 so If you print it making sure that the printer settings are 100% size or "Actual Size" (default is often "Fit to page") you can use the drawings in the pdf as a template. That is what I do. Cut out the shapes, place them on the wood, and trace the shape with a pencil. Please note that the rectangular cardboard piece that the case is folded from, is 1:2, so you can't use that method there. I hope that helps, otherwise, write to me on Facebook :)
@@quentinlagarrigue8099 The design is made to be used with Tip Top Audio Z-rails. There are other cheaper rails out there, but the design will have to be adjusted to fit them. As for power, I am not sure, It has been a while since I checked out what is on the market. I have used 4ms Row power 40, and they work just fine. Try also to check Befaco's lunch bus. Not sure if it will fit though.
Tak! På dansk hedder det skiltekarton, men det er stort set det samme som passepartoutkarton. Limen er helt almindelig trælim. Du kan fx bruge Bostik trälim (inne) :)
I prefer cardboard because I can build a case in my living room, without having to go to a woodshop. Also, the cardboard I use is 2 mm thick. Most types of wood become brittle when sliced so thin. With this design, I can build a case from only three pieces (not including the wooden panels). With wood, I would have to glue more pieces together to achieve the same shape. Finally, It would take me more time creating a case out of wood. I can build a cardboard case over a weekend. I have so far built six, and each new case becomes better and stronger. I hope that answers your question :)
Thanks for the word of caution. The kind of cardboard used here isn't more flammable than wood. I tried holding a lit match under it, and it didn't catch fire easily, but you are right, there is always a risk of electrical fire and it makes good sense to switch off the power and pull the plug when the system is not in use. Finally, It's not so much about saving money - even if it is a lot cheaper, but rather about building a case with a specific design.
This background jam is so trippy ❤

this is a master work, a piece of art. outstanding case and a beautiful movie and music!
This video itself is a thing of beauty and tranquility.
Det här var mycket intressant att se. Jag äger ingen Eurorack synt, men definitivt kommer ha det här i åtanke om jag skulle skaffa en.
I watched the whole thing. everything about this video was on point.
this was the best 17:26 min i've spent in 2017. hypnotising!
ACE
Amazing craftsmanship, diligence, detail and a very easy to watch video, diy taken to the next level, wow.
I don't even own modular gear, and this was a great watch. excellent job all around!
What a great video. I liked at 9:11 hearing the weeeeooosh of white noise when you stretch out the tape. That kinda stuff makes me feel nice inside.
So great. Like "Alone in the Wilderness" for modular synth nerds. Loved it!
Incredible yet true
I feel so calm now

Very soothing and satisfying to watch. Thanks.
that was strangely satisfying and relaxing.
It's like a Mother's Day convention ... !
Holy cow. Totally imsane!Great work, both, the case as well as the video.
Thanks for that. Makes sense with cases costing as much as a module ( but not as exciting )
Wow, such a soothing video. I watched til the end. Mesmerizing. 😃
Absolutely fantastic video! Informative, peaceful, nicely edited. Thanks so much for sharing!!
this is marvelous. thanks for sharing
This is a _GENIUS_ idea!
Great work, and love the music, too!
This video inspired me so much! Thank you!
thanks very very much for sharing the pdf... the result was incredible !
Great craftsmanship!
awesome! , mesmerizing sound design, great diy!
I really like the music.

Simply amazing.
Many thanks :)
Wow nice one! Bit of work but the result is great! #respect
Nicely done, I could never do that.
Why not?
Some arthritis in the hands.
Oh, I see. At least you can show this video to someone and ask to make one (if you want ofcourse). Take care
Great Job!
This looks way too good for DIY ;)
This is awesome! Thank you!
Thanks to you :)
How durable is that cardboard? Seems to me if you put that much care and effort in, it might have made sense to go with wood or acrylic?
Excellent job.
HOT DAMN!!! Amazing job!
Pretty awesome stuff.
Really nice!
Amazing build, and lovely music too! ever thought of making 'em out of papier-mache' ?
Thanks :) I guess it could be done, but it might be difficult to achieve a smooth surface on the case.

this is beatiful, can i buy one of this ??
A work of art! The case, the video, the music!
One question are you glueing the rails?
Thanks a lot! I screw panels, case, and rails together. No gluing necessary.
Thanks!
Artist!
12:18 so lovely
This is a great tutorial!
I love it. Thanks for The tutorial
This is so awesome
Why do you advise against corrogated and foamcore? Any particular brand or composition of cardboard better?
What would you recommend as a power supply , when building two of those cases. And what are those things keeping the distance between the rails ? TY

lovely
Fedt lavet. Både cases og videoen og musikken for den sags skyld
Mange tak! :)
Is it strong enough? Will it survive falling form table to floor or ... well hit by fist? =)
It will survive falling from table to floor. difficult to predict how well it would take a fist beating, I guess it depends on how much punch there is in you. Do your knuckles itch when you see a cardboard case?
I just don't find cardboard reliable and steady enough. Shit happens.
Hi, any chance of getting a reupload of the PDF? Link seems to be dead , thanks for your efforts
Sorry for the late reply. I just re-uploaded the pdf,. Link in description

Thanks for the warning! Wasn't aware that I was cutting in an incorrect way. I will change side in the future.
remarkble....thanks
I see many Eurorack synthesiser owners use that CME MIDI keyboard. It's has only the USB port, no MIDI DIN, no CV/Gate. What are the advantages of it?
No special advantages. It's just smaller and less ugly than most midi keyboards. I also like that the keys are only a couple of millimeters tall.
What kind of cardboard is that? Where would I find it?
what kind of cardboard is used for you project? Impressive work btw!
Please check the PDF linked to in the description. Cheers! :)
beautiful video :D
Mega fedt!!! Hvor kan man se det færdige resultat?
Cute!
Now that I have seen your video "Build Sawtooth Wooden Panels" I can see that they would be protected

Right, sorry i didnt Saw the pdf first. Thanks very much its a very complète tutorial. Have you got a cheap diy solution for rail and power supply ?

Why not use all wood to construct? Easier, no?

Jens Paldam it does indeed. Thanks for taking the time! I do think your design is very clever, and it's fun seeing how you do it. Thanks for sharing.
I used duplo in the beginning. Worked fine, but my kid wanted them back ;)
What type of cardboard did you use? Not corrugated at all is it? Awesome job btw!
Looks like greyboard. You can get it in art or framing shops.
realy cool thx for the tip :)
If I'd known that giant Lik-A-Stix were standard drafting equipment, I'd of paid more attention in school.

Beutiful! :D
nice)
Thumbnail looks like an overly complicated remote control for a television set.
if I will continue buying modules I will need a cardboard case for myself
Had I known this, I would have saved the Box from my DSI OB-6.
Added to www.modularmusic.tv - stay tuned! Thanks!

It's officially a problem when (to save money for modules) you risk death by massive electrical fire.
