- These are some of the signs to look out for. Depending on how much you play some of these issues may arise sooner than others. 2-8 months is the typical lifespan of a paddle for an avid player.
1. Failing edge guard
2. Chipped edges
3. Smooth paddle face
4. Cracked frame/face
5. Delamination / Core crushing

I only need one sign - new paddle drop collab with PBW
Chipped Egdge: When the shell of your paddle starts to crack 😉
Thanks for your tips.
number one sign is getting bored with a paddle lol
Love your paddle so so much.❤❤❤
It's helpful!
Smooth face is the first thing for me, haven’t had core crush before I dispose of the paddle
I'm looking at the Luxx Control but I'm concerned about what I've heard regarding the spray-on grit. Does it really wear off as fast as people say compared to non-spray stuff? As an intermediate player who only plays twice a week would that even be an issue for me or is it more for advanced players who really control the ball when they play?
Just avoid it, why purchase from a company that refuses to innovate
@@superweeb6969 something about their paddles just resonate with me. Plus I really like the lifetime warranty.
Pass on the LUXX. I play with a guy who plays a lot. His LUXX face won't even last one month.
@@kimleith1378 dam I was afraid of that. My other choice is the Vanguard Control.
@@thefidgetfixjust be aware that the warantee does not cover the surface texture.
Wish i knew about the smooth surface before buying a used DBD on offerup 😢
My DBD is about 6 months old with heavy use and the surface is mostly smooth. It has no impact on power and I'm still able to put plenty of spin on the ball, if not as much.
If you got a really good deal, don't worry. It's still a great paddle. If you paid more than $100 for it... Well, that kinda sucks.
@DanKaschel yeah i paid 120 for it not realizing what to look for. Gave it the ol shake to check if it rattled and pressed the face for any give. It had none of those signs. Just flat smooth surface. Oh well, lesson learned i guess
The DBD uses the micro weave to create spin and not spray on or other grit. As such, it will feel smooth. Mine was smooth feeling when it was new out of the box.
@@aznballaboi4life I paid 160 new (pre-tax) so that does feel like a lot. Even so, it's a great paddle and it'll probably serve you well.
@@linschulze8260 good point. That doesn't mean there are no durability considerations (which is why the ruby uses kevlar) but it does mean that the "feel" of grit isn't a great proxy for condition
Reupload from Selkirk’s channel?!
Yessir!
Chipped Edges (correct spelling) 😜
I’m a 3.5 at Best speller 😭🫠
Still flying the Selkirk flag?
In a recent PB Studio podcast he mentioned that he’s no longer with the company. Probably recorded this one a while ago.
Annoying
If you depend on spin then 3 months is about all you will get if you drill/play several times a week. Spin goes fast and that is why most paddles are severely over priced.
EGDGE is not EDGE
Clip yo fingernails bruh
So you have paddles with other companies but you’re still with Selkirk?
In a recents video on pickleball studio he talks about how he’s no longer with Selkirk. If I had to guess this is just a video he made before
