Really like the concept of this new series. I am fairly new to working with electronics, and look forward to your walkthrough, explanations, and mods. Thanks for doing what you do.
I'd like to add to this video (if I may). These newer Chinese tube amps use printed circuit boards (even some of the so called P2P ones). The tube bases can be fixed to these boards. When seating your tubes you need to be careful not to bend the boards. It can cause crack or breaks in the traces. I've seen a lot of damaged (the amp w/ the name that sounds like a popular American truck) amps in the last couple of years. And believe me, getting them to send a replacement circuit board is very difficult. Thank you for taking the time, really enjoy your videos.
Looked up 5Z3p. It's basically a Chinese version of a 5U4g. 5Z3 was a 4 pin base whereas 5Z3p is octal base. Interesting project BTW. Looking forward to subsequent episodes. Thumbs up!
Next video please! Very keen to see what you do with this thing and hear your initial listening impressions and test results. Almost bought one of these amps myself.
Looking forward to this series and what you find! I own the little brother Reisong A10 with the EL34 tubes. I changed out the coupling caps and did some tube rolling and think that amp sounds pretty darn good, especially for what it costs! Maybe sometime down the road, an A10 will find its way to your workbench/channel - would be curious how it looks on the scope. Again, love your content - hope you get ton more subscribers! :)
I did a whole series on this amp ruclips.net/p/PLtEhh3UpOsiBWwGBIQ-4yIpVfwpX_QPUC And BTW the meters work correctly and do what they are supposed to do, they show you when the amp is being overdriven into distortion.
I’ve owned this amplifier for years now. I’ve rolled in a Gold Lion GZ34, vintage GE 6SN7 GTBs, and kept the Psvane 300B tubes. The best thing I did was to add a Project-Audio Tube Box S2 pre-amp that I rolled some Mullards into. I have a Project Carbon Evo turntable, and Klipsch RP 600m. The next move is probably Heresy’s, but truly unnecessary.
After about 15-20 hours burn in, so still quite new it’s sounds ok when fed by Pioneer LX800SE Blu-ray SACD player into some large 98dB horns. Not great just good. Suspect more burn in time is needed.
Normally you would parallel 2 output tubes into a common output transformer. Never seen anyone "Bridge" a pair of output transformers into a mono amp. Before I bought two of these with the idea of making a pair of mono amps, I would invest that money into something better.
Well, typical chinese made massive production amp using circurt board, the drive tube 6N8P is very noise, I would replace it with 6SN7 right away. 5Z3P is the russian version of 5U4, looks cheap made.
Yes, this is a very valid point. 300B amps generally don't have big "watt" numbers. They need to be paired with very efficient speakers to satisfy most listeners.

Will be interesting to see the upgrade. Love your channel, straight to the to point.

Looking forward to viewing this series! If this can be tweaked into a great sounding amp, it will have beauty and finesse.
That's the goal :)

The input-driver and rectifier tubes are Chinese military 6SN7/5Z3 equivalents.
Looking forward to it. Looking forward to the preamp as well.
Have you done a video of upgrading the A50? I have one, and I’d love to see the meters work, and all the other goodness you speak of.

I suspect it needs the mods I ended up doing to this amp. It honestly just sounds dead with low power without these mods done IMHO.
Very useful project. Thanks in advance.
Does SE Triode El34 sound close to a SE 845 Triode?
Hi, Can you convert this amplifier from STEREO to MONO BRIDGE?

you have a great day as well like your site

This amp is week. It only has 7.6W per channel

Out of the box, it's only 2.5-3W at anything resembling reasonable distortion levels.
