Lovely to see you making this type of content again. I started playing around with ingredients a few months ago, it's really fun and interesting. In my experiments, myrrh is a very tricky note, sometimes only a small amount can take over a composition very easily, although on it's own it's not particularly strong by any means

Amazing video! You clearly have a lot of knowledge! Do you not need to dilute pure essential oils before applying to the skin? Maybe I missed something
A great introductory video for beginners, thank you very much for taking the time to make it! Regarding the pipette-waste question: wouldn't a solution be to reserve each pipette for a single oil? Or is there some kind of risk of oil residues degrading in the pipette?
Can you make or copy the old Jean paul gualtier le male in 1995, or how can you beat such aroma, i wish you could smell the vintage le male and do your research by making your own parfumes if i get chance to go uk i will call you a meeting to discuss with you how we can go joint venture business on perfume company and how we can beat Jean paul gualtier.
Thanks, this is very informative!! I already have some experience with making alcohol or oil based scents at home, but still got a lot to learn. I'm really interested in making home made natural perfume in a professional way and start a small business to sell it once I know exactly what I'm doing. But I find it hard to know where to start. I want to know what ingredients I should use to make the best longlasting natural perfume and that it's actually good quality, completely safe and doesn't seem too crafty. Do you have any tips for this or perhaps know where I can find actual good information on how to start something like this?
Hi i randomly found this channel and subscribed! i want to ask something. is it pure essential oil or diluted? some of channel i already watch said that essential oils should be diluted with something like castor oil or else? and how bout the SPL? thanks in advance!
Love this... nudging me to buy some oils again... I've been putting it off with the fear of being mediocre and wasting my money.... I did buy a table and some spice shelves last year and a couple of bottles with droppers... finding it hard to find the motivation outside of my 9-5 with L'Occitane... ant way thanks for the inspiration Peter 🤎 love your shirt too... I have a similar one 😇
Perfect DIY perfumery 2.0! I'm excited because I have all of these ingredients! I'll be mixing them tonight! I've bought a lot from New Directions Aromatics as well, although it isn't necessarily perfume grade. They give all the spec sheets for their EOs, however and I find that satisfactory as regards authenticity. I'm sure perfumer's grade is better quality though
Let me know how it turns out, following the Mandy Aftel format, I actually find it quite strong.. So you might want to dilute it further with more alcohol.
Thank you so much! Please advise - I want to make oil perfumes - are the principles still the same, and you just add a carrier oil to it instead of alcohol?
Great video. I'm more of an amateur than a beginner, but still learned something. #beginnersmind I wish I could wean off the plastic pipettes. I worry about evaporation with the droppers. Most of mine are dilutions. I start small then scale up for creations.
Not very many books give you any formulas to be honest.. Mandy Aftel is about the only one I know of, that actually give you a formula, but they're quite simple. A good starting point for a beginner
This is fun. Thank you. I added up materials, would be about 50 dollars to buy all the smallest amounts of ingredients. My daughter wants to make perfume. And incense is great. I don't think I have an incense perfume. Does Coco count? 😂🙏✨
hi, may I please ask if you add distilled water to perfumes? it gets quite confusing while searching this info online. also on all commercial perfumes I have there is water in ingredient list. looking forward to your advice. amazing video btw! followed it and made my own perfume :)

amber is not an essential oil, but an accord, a combination of oils together.. typically a basic amber accord is Labdanum combined with Vanillin, which is a powder. Though you can make it more complex with adding other resins like benzoin, myrrh etc.
Thanks for this! Can you recommend a place in the US for perfume packaging? A place that would consider low volume small order would be ideal. Thanks in advance and for what you do!
Pete thanks for the tutorials, do you think i can use fragrance oils, instead of essential oil and make a perfume as you do, im really not sure if all that kind of essential is available in fragrance oil as well..thanks in advance
the term fragrance oil is sometimes used to sale very cheaply made synthetic accords, some fragrance oils can be things like "Tutti Fruity" or "Orchid" (which there is no natural variety of oil) and they vaguely attempt to mimic something.. these are really meant for room diffusers, not perfume. - Sometimes fragrance oil can mean a genuine aroma chemical or synthetic, basically don't use 'fragrance oils' use either naturals or synthetics, synthetics are designed by brands like IFF, Firmenich, Guivadan etc to be used in perfume making.
Thanks for the video! I’ve found that 33 drops never amounts to 2ml… I’ve been blending with the same materials and others in different formulas, and I mostly get up to 1 ml or a bit more. I’m really baffled 🤔
@FragranceView ok, I don't know what all goes into creating an extract and was wondering what the process was. I was curious also regarding making a coffee extract. Also I wanted to check into it because I have purchased some raw materials that I didn't feel accurately represented the scent profiles of Cognac and Rum. Are there any particular raw materials you can refer to me that perform well and smell like Cognac, Whiskey, and/or Rum?
When creating cologne what is a good method of percentages for top, mid, and base note. I see a lot of different methods. Which do you use a lot? Also when adding Hedione to fragrance I’ve see it says you can put up to 65% of formula. So if you are doing 20% fragrance and 80% alcohol for instance, does this mean you can add Hedione at 65% of the 20% fragrance or of the combination of alcohol and fragrance?
I don't limit myself to any method, I go on intuition and feeling.. and it changes every time depending on what you want to create, and what the notes are.. I never found putting myself in a box of %'s helped me personally. - in that instance it means 65% of the 20% - if it was % of the final product ( it would be much lower number )
The trick to prevent evaporation, is to empty the dropper completely before putting it back in, that way air is trapped and the liquid can't rise up and out.
Hey Peter, Thank you for making these videos. I’ve recently finished my fifth perfume experiment and I feel like they just keep getting better, although all of them have been pretty and wearable so far. In your experience, does the order in which you add the drops in a perfume composition affect the final scent a lot? I’ve heard that it’s wise to start with base notes first, and I recently read that for reproducing the same result you should write down the order in which you added the notes. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Take care, Mina
Hey Mina, for my own personal way, I do tend to blend base notes first, and work up.. mainly for the reason that I want to know how it smells at each stage as it builds up, to get the balance. I don't personally believe that the actual scent will change depending if you added the base first, or the top first.. if it's the same formula, and you make it with the same amounts, you can add it in any which way and the end product will be the same, in my opinion.. Unless there's something in the formula that can react with something in particular.
I am so happy and excited to see you doing perfumery content again. I’m going to blend this accord later tonight. I’m pretty sure I’ve never done an all natural incense accord. I actually really struggle with all natural compositions in it. My mother wants me to make her a all natural fragrance, and I think this could be a good place to start.
How do you normalise the mixture of absolute and essential oil? cause I found some absolutes are overpowering than essential oil, wouldn't it be good to mix them with alcohol as a start?
that's just balance.. if one material is stronger, you can either pre-dilute it before using it.. or just add less of it, it's just using your nose to make a harmony and balance
Hi Peter, actually I love parfume but my skin ia very sensitive so I have ti use alcohol free. What is alternative solvent that I can use? And also I will start to produce organic parfume.
Do you worry about the oils escaping out of the dropper bottles? I've seen some people say to avoid dropper bottles with the dropper built in as it doesn't form a perfect seal.
@Texasfan88 already have asked about it, I just want to re-iterate. How about dilutions? Do you use DPG as a solvent or all of there beefy bottles are just neat materials and you're just playing around with neat vanilla absolute? That's posh! ☕
there's natural vanillin powder at perfumers apprentice, you'll pay more for it though . I've no idea about sucrose or dextrose, as far as I am aware that's not used in perfumery...
To dilute a material accurately you need a scale, and then work out the maths based on the amount of weight you want to dilute. - To work out the concentration of the formula accurately also requires measurements with the scale, combing the total weight in oil, and then working out the weight of alcohol. It's just maths.
Quick question please! If the formula is 36 drops to 8ml of alcohol (yielding 10ml of perfume) what do you do when you dont want to be capped at 36 drops? In other words, say you want to make a more complex fragrance with over 10 different notes? Being capped at 36 drops.. what if an extra few drops of certain materials yields a smell you want etc ?.. because being capped using this method means you have a maximum of 36 drops to play with, doesent this cap and limit the creative process
it's a basic guide line.. feel free to add more drops, just bare in mind, the more drops you go over.. the more concentrated the perfume.. simply just add a little more alcohol, problem solved.
Thanks for all of your great videos! Just wondering if you have found bottles with eye droppers that hold the fragrance / don’t evaporate or if you have any tips on this? I really like to idea of having diluted materials in a bottle with dropper, but am finding they do evaporate and I can smell scent through rubber dropper top. Would the alcohol contribute to this more? And would storing only the raw material (without alcohol) help ?

you could make oil based roll on perfume, diluting it with Jojoba oil instead of alcohol
Hi
You told to take 33 drops like Mandy Aftel. Could you tell me you mean for a 100ml perfume 33drops or a other size? Thank you.
Just read the description under the video.. 33 drops makes 10ml finished perfume.
What do you think off Holland and Barrett oils?
Not suitable for perfumery making
Do you worry about the oils escaping out of the dropper bottles? I've seen some people say to avoid dropper bottles with the dropper built in as it doesn't form a perfect seal.
Only if they're tinctures, the alcohol is very volatile and wants to escape.. typically pure EO doesn't do that.

USA Perfumers Apprentice / Eden Botanicals
Please this essential oils are synthetic or natural?
this one is natural, no synthetics
Since it’s 100% natural. Do you need to give it more time to maturate?
With a simple blend like this, not many changes will happen.. if you want to let it rest, 2 weeks is more than enough.
