BTW, I think in the group policy thing, they changed it from "Windows Defender Antivirus" to "Microsoft Defender Antivirus"!!!
You really saved me. Windows Defender kept erasing some folders and stopped only when used your method. oh God, it was nightmare

THANK YOU! worked for me perfect. the issue i was having was i scanned an external hard drive with viruses and they wouldnt clear from windows defender after unplugging the drive

QUESTION: I just did all of these things in Event Viewer. I see the log of Event Viewer was deleted. But, when I went back to Windows Defender, the Protection History still showed everything - including the "Threats" that relate to programs that have been uninstalled from the computer for a long time. Why is this?

Sadly, same here as well.
I like Defender. Together with Malwarebytes and a bit of care it's as good as anything else I've ever used.
Malwarebytes does not make a great antivirus

I got the regular windows 10, and I've tried your method but it just won't get rid of those warnings and notifications from the protection history... I'm not asking for help, but if you got another solution to this I'd gladly accept your help.

QUESTION: I just did all of these things with the "Group" method, too. After the Event Viewer method failed, even though all the "Logs" were deleted but the "Protection History" remained, I set the "Group" method to "1 Day." But it has now been several days and yet the "Protection History" still remains. How can I get rid of the "Protection History"?
open iobit unlocker
click on Add
scroll down to program data
then scroll down to Microsoft
then scroll down to windows defender
then scroll down to scans
then click on history
scroll down to service then click on service
then click on detection history
open up the yellow folders then add the files to iobit then click on unlock and delete
then that's it you're done and deleted
go back to windows security click on virus and threat protection
click on protection history and they should be cleared

This no longer works in my Windows 10 version. I have found another solution. Open the Folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service\DetectionHistory and delete everything in the DetectionHistory folder.
is it safe to delete all in the detection history folder?

I have a question, sooo this is just a clearing a protection history, not the files. You are still safe if you didn't install that apps that give you a warning/message, right ? If that file installed that mean you receive the threat in your computer... Soo this method is just a clearing protection history LOG.

I hope it helps, let's see, after the recent reinstallation of WIN10, the Windows Defender folder is under the SYSTEM user and even though I wanted to manually delete the protection history in Program Data - WIndows Defender - Scan folder, it tells me (you don't have the appropriate permissions, contact SYSTEM)
And that's me set myself as admin it used to work.
I'm an administrator and it doesn't work manually, I don't know why and I'm not going to mess with it.
I almost had a problem like this once and had to reinstall not WIN10 but WIN7 because I messed around with it 🤔🙄

Pardon me in case I'm missing something simple. But, why would you want to clear this type of history? doesn't it make more sense to KEEP the history so Defender remembers what to protect against?
It was a requested video on how to clear history, windows defender does not need history to remember how to keep you safe.

I had the same issue, remove/uninstall any 3rd party AV software. Reboot your PC for safe measure. This worked for me
The Group Policy "windows defender antivirus" might be called "microsoft defender antivirus" instead

I can't able to delete Service folder inside history folder i have tried many solutions resource monitor and process explorer it show me a bunch of process related 'Service' handle pls help me in this as protection history isn't deleted because of this

I only see windows defender smart scan I do not have the option "Windows Defender" please help I do think I have it successfully turned off would this make a difference. Disk Cleanup - Cleanup System Files has a check box for Windows Defender. It says "Non critical files used by Windows Defender Antivirus". Don't know, if Protection History is included too.

It means the threat... was either removed (deleted, taken away, vanished. Is that good?)............. or restored- (returned to where it was)

im here with jjsploit that is says virus but its not and my dad is so angry that its actually virus and i keep uninstalling it and he still knows it because of this protection history. tysm bro my dad wont be angry at me.
