    John, loving your videos. I'm getting back into the hobby after a 10 year or so break. I actually met you down at a scale comp in Ga back when you were just breaking into the hobby. I'm so happy you are killing it now! I'm looking for a brushless set up for my scx10ii and cant decide between the mamba x or the HH ble pro with the 540 stubby. Would love to see a video on it. Also, would really enjoy a technical video on all the new chargers, batteries, raiders that you personally use. Thanks

    @HolmesHobbies Hey I am looking to place an brushless ESC combo order soon and I am torn between 2200 and 2700 kv puller pro motors for my Wraith. I have stock gears but am willing to gear down. What would the top speed be of these motors be? I am looking for a bit over walking pace for my top speed but my main concern is low speed control. What do you suggest I buy?

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  8 лет назад +1

      2200Kv standard Puller would be our recommendation. The standard 540 is a better choice for most 2.2 rigs. Top speed with the 2200 on 11.1v will be around 10mph depending on gearing. Perfect choice for best low speed control without being too slow.

  • @SendItRC
    @SendItRC 8 лет назад +1

    I assume this setup is sensored? If I wanted to run Puller Pro with a HW sensored ESC I currently have (that does have crawler software BTW), can I expect it to have similar slow speed and drag brake performance, or is that largely due to your ESC and software? Thanks in advance!

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  8 лет назад +1

      correct, sensored. We have no experience with the HW system to comment about low speed control. The motor will start smoothly if the ESC allows.

      If you have a sensored Castle ESC, then adding a sensored motor will help a lot. The Puller Pro 540 standard in 3500kv is a very good choice for great low speed control and plenty of wheelspeed. For hill climbing, a mamba max pro or Monster X are good choices.

      Hey I'm looking at buying a brushless Puller Pro motor soon for my wraith. I'm torn between 2200 and 2700 kv. From your experience what will the top speed for both motors? I really want low speed performance and don't mind my top speed. I just want to be able to go a little over walking pace. Have you owned both a 2200 and 2700?

    • @tomlucasrccrawlers9108
      @tomlucasrccrawlers9108 8 лет назад +1

      Taco I haven’t owned the 2700kv.
      I bought all my Holmes brushless stuff when all he had was 2200kv and 3300kv Stubby and Standard and a 3500kv XL. I have them all but the 3300kv Standard. I always wanted something between the 2200 and 3300. The 2700kv fits that nicely. The 3300 it just a bit too jumpy for me...kinda like gearing down a brushed 21-turn motor for crawling....it works but there's better options( that's just me). To me the 3300 is more of a Rock-Bouncer motor. Regardless it's a great motor.
      I think you'd be happy with a 2200kv to a 2700kv Stubby or Standard. 2200kv feels like a 45-turn on start-up and still hits some nice speed for those occasional dirt climbs. I usually run mine on 3s and 4s. My next motor will be a 2700kv.
      The Stubby's were specifically designed for crawling and start-up....and they have ridiculous amounts of torque....I was told they have the same size magnet as the bigger ROC 412 motors. First time I installed one in my truck.... I barely touched the throttle and I held on to my truck.... it squatted down and tried to rip carpet out of the ground.
      Tom

    • @taco8277
      @taco8277 8 лет назад

      Hey man thanks for the reply! You seem to know A LOT more about this RC stuff than me. One more thing. You were saying the stubby is more designed for crawling. Would you recommend a stubby for a Wraith? I think I was reading somewhere somebody recommended a standard motor for a wraith because of the bigger tires and bigger vehicle. I think I'm leaning more towards a 2200kv now that I have your opinion. Do you think the stubby 2200kv get above walking speed or would I want a standard? Seriously thanks for your help!

    • @tomlucasrccrawlers9108
      @tomlucasrccrawlers9108 8 лет назад +1

      Just opinion....I lean towards a Stubby for a vehicle that's under 8 pounds. And a Standard for above that weight. Again that's my opinion. Because they are both very torquay Motors.
      On 3s or 4s you'll have way more speed that a "walking pace".
      I'd go the 2700kv Standard with a 10-tooth pinion....assuming your running 32-pitch gears. Start there.
      My TTC Truck is almost 10 pounds of medal and aluminum....bullet-proof truck. I use a 2200kv Standard and around a 14-tooth pinion. I have a great crawl and startup and an awesome top speed for a crawler. Your tires are taller than mine. I think that would be an excellent start for you. You can always get up or down from there.
      A 10-tooth pinion will keep your motor cool too. 3s & 4s. I think you'll be pretty happy with that

      The ESCs are based on Castle hardware. None of my motors are Castle/nue derived, I select the stators and engineer the magnetics around it for the wanted performance.

      Still hasn't broken. I'm a smooth driver though. You are right that the motor is a parts breaker in the wrong hands.

      We have a 3300kv Puller Pro Stubby and BLE pro controller in our shop ascender. Maybe go with 2700kv if you don't want wheelie speeds.
