Maybe it would be better to differentiate europe in nationstate communities that are closely connectec through bodies of water that surround europe. For example The UK, belgium, netherlands, norway denmark around the north sea. Or the countries around the Mediterranean sea with subdivisions like the Adriatic sea ect.
After its unification Germany is still focussed on the east and part of the baltic.
However often disregarded for its size, The netherlands or better the 7 united provinces(states) set framework of the modern world and has won the cultural war at its time paving the way for (protestant) individualism, freedom of conscience, religious tolerance, corporations, the stockmarket, freedom of speech, academic excellence, industrial scale production and innovation(of vessels, pre steam engine, wind powered)
After the glorious revolution Englands colonial expansion was largely funded by dutch financers.
Nor marx or even a dugin and many others have understood well this subject the pivotal role in key moments of north west european history and with it the world.
But when i as a dutch person view the modern world I see the dutch society represented in its core values.
When comparing Slovenia and the Netherlands in patents or nobel prize winners isnt fair.
The UK whatever their sentiments are is very much part of Europe, for a slovenian this may not be as apparant but for us dutch its not even questionable.
It maybe not be aligned to europes larger nations, but you see, that is where the dutch come in. We share a fraternity like that of the slavs.
