  • A guide intended to teach basic combat skills with Yuri to new players of Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. Skip to a respective timestamp so I don't waste your time and you can go back to playing the game.
    -----
    Minor correction to what I said at 5:55, the held direction should still be the direction you are facing like what I mentioned previously, not what direction the enemy is in. I wasn't thinking when I said that. See the controller inputs I put on-screen.
    Also to be more specific at 3:29, only entering neutral will truly reset your attack count limit. Letting a recovery animation play out in full automatically puts you into neutral afterwards, which is why it also works. As for guarding, guarding and letting go to attack will put you into neutral after the guard and before the attack, so the limit will still get reset, however the act of guarding itself will not reset the limit. You'll notice this if you perform an arte chain utilizing the Step Combo skill, since you go from your previous attack into free run, into guard, into backstep, into step combo, and finally into an arte. You never actually enter neutral.

    I think Yuri doesn't need too much explanation if you read all of his skills really carefully after learning all his artes/skills/tricks, the rest is explained pretty well in the tutorial. Good video I guess these are basic things you need to know if you're new, if you miss the anything in the video just bring it back up in the menu or check the aselia wiki or gamefaqs for more in-depth detail (both cover it pretty well).

    Goodness. Thanks for making this video. The battle system does not help mitigate the incoming damage that the difficulty curve introduces at each level. The balance is atrocious. With a player health pool of just under 2000HP and two Level 15 targets with HP over 10k hitting you for 85~250HP every hit on Normal (around 50HP if you guard ) and no shops around to buy gels from, this scenario is tedious. So tedious that my pride to not lower the difficulty has lead me to search for a youtube video on how to solve my dilemma. That same pride will probably lead me to quit on this game if I don't improve (get passed this).

    Well I hope I can now beat Gatusso with lvl 15 since I don't want to overlevel and that thing is hitting me like a truk but with this new techniques of guard cancel and free running I would maybe be able to dish damage and block on time, since my main problem is every single gap when he 1HKO or 2HKO depending my HP bar.
    Anyway super useful, going to set it to manual again since I put it into semi after not noticing a really big difference before and missing a lot of hits because the disableed auto correction in the axis.

    • @Zethoro
      @Zethoro 5 лет назад +2

      Satoshi2Yahiko Don’t be discouraged; Gattuso is arguably the hardest boss in the game. I wish you luck, and don’t be afraid to grind a level or two if it’s too hard.

    • @Lanzetsu
      @Lanzetsu 5 лет назад

      @@Zethoro Yup I did it already, reset until I got everyone living at the end, also it is worth noting you can't go back to buy stuff or anything, so if you reached the area without stocking yourself (or after wasting most of the items) you will get a reeeeally hard time.
      I think my problem was mainly Rapede and the IA commands, even on "Defend" he used to die quite often so I changed it for Karol (Estelle and Rita were a must both and I was playing Yuri)

    • @little_wolverine
      @little_wolverine 5 лет назад +3

      I think it's better to switch to auto now than later. The game becomes more fun when you switch because of all the extra technical stuff you can do. It might be tough at first but you get used to correcting your own direction pretty quickly, and manual gives you a lot more freedom to place attacks precisely.

    • @Lanzetsu
      @Lanzetsu 5 лет назад +2

      @@little_wolverine I think you surely mean "change to manual", but for @Matt Odlum yeah, it is way better now because... at around lvl 15 you will face one of the hardest bosses in the game and if you are still not good at moving and setting up the strategy you will have a super hard time man.

    • @RepublicofODLUM
      @RepublicofODLUM 5 лет назад +3

      @@Lanzetsu thanks, i actually switched to manual and have gotten fairly used to manual cancelling by instinct, but id be lying if i didnt say the games combat is a little underwhelming right now as i have been using the same 3 normal attacks - lunge attack - then 2 arts combo for a while now. i think ill need more practice stringing combos together because seeing other videos on youtube the combat looks like so much fun. I just beat barbos btw and realize i have alot left of the game so im sure more mechanics will be coming.

    Something I don't get. When I free run cancel after using a combo, sometimes it functions, but sometimes it doesn't, forcing me to defend instead. Is free run cancel very sensitive to direction? I'm sure I'm pressing foward while pressing the free run button, so I don't get why I get hits and misses with it.

    The system is this game is cancer, it actually ruins the experience. Hold forward, free run and block to not be punished for hitting someone... Why is this even in the game? It adds nothing. This isn't Tekken or SF, the controls are too clunky for this to be fun.
