I really enjoy the characterization created by G. Simenon; they are not black/white, good/bad, but human and his lead character is like the sociologist detective. He often is sorting through the lives of those surrounding the crime to uncover the motivation behind each person as he looks for the criminal; very often he has compassion for the circumstances that create a regular everyday “Joe/Mary” to be compelled into a criminal act. Love all your choices & I ESPECIALLY like being able to come here for those stories or authors that are NOT anywhere else. Hope all is well! Cheers! 🪭
LOVE your commentaries Tony!! They always provide excellent food for thought and help me appreciate the stories much more. Thank you for so generously sharing your many gifts with us.
Masterful, thought-provoking, on all levels. Love the story, accents, commentary. Much needed, much appreciated, Tony. Thank you. Agree with you on TrueCrime.
Wow, Tony, I have listened to this book at another RUclips channel and I will just tell you the Reader makes all the difference! you really bring all your stories to life. Love it! I tell all my friends that I go to bed with Tony Walker every night L O L! Don’t worry, I’m 72, and quite content not chasing after men big smile, I often fall asleep at night and have to figure out where I left off and finish the story in the morning. You’re really the best! Thanks. 2:38
Stumbled upon your reading in the middle of the night and listened again this morning. Maigret is one of my absolute favorites. Listened to every audio reading I could find. Enjoyed your commentary and looking forward to more.
Great commentary at the end, thanks. Very insightful and informative, for a relatively new Maigret fan, such as me. On the personality of the detective, i think there has to be qualities there which appeal to the audience. You mention Columbo, referring to his seemingly bungling, dim-wittedness. When all along the barrage of questions, his constant badgering of the perpetrators is a clever ruse to force the hand, and all done with a respectable humbleness. Maigret on the other hand, imho, relentless determination to solve the "puzzle ' as you termed it. I really like how Maigret keeps every one around him focused, he doesn't, to use the cliche, suffer fools gladly, yet still commands great respect from his colleagues as well as criminals and civilians alike. Straight down the line character, logical with no thrills. No deerstalker, pipe and 7% solution for this French detective. Not to say I'm not a Sherlock Holmes & Dr Watson fan. Hope this all made sense?
Wow! WHAT a story! For me, this one felt very different from the other Maigret stories- sure, it has us hoping- from what we know of Maigret's character- that he has cleverly put the pieces of the jigsaw together and the baddie gets caught, but there were the two very clever plot twists which prevents us from guessing the end- immensely enjoyable -partly because we get some surprises- right until the very end!- Thanks!
Your channel is the ONLY channel that I want all notifications, from the 1st story to this one, ive been hooked, you have a wonderful voice & I can't wait for the book to arrive cheers! 💚❤️
George Simenon was the greatest of all the detective writers, I think Conan Doyle has a place all of his own, as I am sure Simenon himself would of thought so. My opinion for what its worth!
I don't know if you're a Liverpudlian, but your voice reminds me of George Harrison. His relaxed style let the rhythm of his speech add to the meaning of his words. Many readers don't seem to understand how important that is.
Love the Maigret stories. Have we lost our love of stories? Imagine, sitting in the tent, sitting round the fire . . . Now most of the stories we imbibe are absolute shite interlaced with inappropriate adverts. A good narrator reading a well written tale is a thing of wonder. Can be repeated even if you know the end, cos you appreciate something different every time.
Love this, Tony, also this time around, the story; your masterful narration, wise commentary ... again, again,, again Tony. Please tell me again. More Maigret, Tony. Please. Thank you so much.
Simenon does a thing Ive noticed also in the wonderful Martin Beck stories, I am sure you have too. Deliberately makes it boring, to emphasise the repetitive nature of police investigation. Except it is never boring. Opposite of action stuff. And thats a rare talent. And yes of course its a police procedural! If only for this reason.
Love your stories but man you’ve got to quit apologizing. You do what you do best and we’ll be there. Those that don’t want to or have the time to listen to the commentary will click off. Keep putting them up.
I'm into Norse hard boiled detective Harry Hole`. I'm of Scandinavian descent and my grandparents spoke Norwegian so it's very cozy for me. But Harry feels very American to be nevertheless, because he's jaded and traumatized, damaged and also never runs shorts of horrendous murderers to chase. I can't imagine Norway being stuffed with serial killers like in Yank country. But Jo Nesbo is fantastic, imo, even if the genre is a well beaten path.
I really like this reader and, while I don’t disdain readers who take the trouble to read even while they are poor at accents, it especially nice to hear a reader comfortable with diverse accents.
Simenon actually started as a cub reporter at the age of sixteen , later studied to be a medical doctor, new high ranking police officers an also characters from the French underworld, one feels if he had learnt to write with his left hand, he could of written two story`s at the same time and they both would of been worth reading . YES! he was a bloody Genius Extraordinaire !!!
It's the first time I've heard Tony's voice and I'm finding it hard to get used to. Maybe I will by the end of the story hopefully as I love those stories ❤❤❤
Your teeth coming in are painful -- but they're just as painful coming out as well.😅 I've said it many times before but I'll say it one more time: I love the commentary, the sleeping dogs, the page turnings and the teething grandchild. I wouldn't take your channel any other way. As for the story I knew it would be good, being one of your narrations, but this one felt even more immersive. I thoroughly enjoyed the foreign (to me) aspect along with all the incredible accents -- as well as the dry humor so rarely featured in American boilers. To this homogenized American, the old Paris Ghetto holds quite a bit of romance. As always, thank you so much for your time and hard work. Love to Sheila, the dogs, kids, grand-kids, the scrapman, random parakeets and everyone else whose generosity forms the part of you that your audience has the good sense to engage with. Live long, Tony Walker.
No your French is excellent! I’m not French but it sounds perfect to me, I do know the difference 😅and this commentary makes the story even more interesting so thanks for the extra ❤
WOW, HOW WONDERFUL TO FIND MAIGRET AMONG THE LISTINGS, I AM RAPT. SO GOOD TO HEAR SOMEBODY PRONOUNCE POIROT'S NAME CORRECTLY. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHICH SERIES IT IS WHERE MAIGRET SPEAKS A LOT OF FRENCH, PARTICULARLY WHERE ADDRESSES ARE CONCERNED. I JUST LOVE HIS VOICE. I HAVE BEEN TO FRANCE ON A CAT JUDGES TOUR IN 1977 BUT NOT LONG ENOUGH TO LEARN MUCH FRENCH AND OF COURSE BY THEN THE FRENCH WERE SPEAKING A FAIR BIT OF ENGLISH. I WAS GIVEN A HINT, WE WERE TOLD THAT IF WE WENT FOR A WALK, WALK AS THOUGH YOU KNEW WHERE YOU WERE GOING, DO NOT ACT AS A TOURIST AND YOU WOULD BE A LOT SAFER. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR MAIGRET. BLESSINGS, TRIXIE, 87, SOUTH AUSTRALIA. XXX
I don't think we are completely misdirected. Margaret says in the story he isn't sure which one is Stan and he goes on to then count off each person with Lucas. That is when I figured out who he was. That is misdirection for pre-war France, though. Hope you will do more Maigret stories!
I have another for everywhere West of Berlin and north of Athens. I split the British Isles in 3 and Ireland in 2. I have 1 American accent which has to do for Canadian and my Austrialian I use for NZ. I do only have one for South Africa though.
I just can't get into the stories about Maigret. He's just not an interesting character. Or maybe it's just that Simenon's writing isn't up to much 🤷🏻♀️😉
Love detective stories across the various genres. Simonen was a genius. Well rendered. Greetings from Australia.

Thank you for the commentaries. They add to the story for me 😊

Welcome aboard!
Same here 😊
I love your nuanced reading of one of my favorite author's works, and I thoroughly enjoy the commentary. Thank you for taking the time.
Wow, thank you!

Excellent, Tony. Appreciated the different accents. Also enjoyed the ramble after. Thank you.
This story was the best kept plot FORSURE !!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
George Simenon was the greatest of all the detective writers, I think Conan Doyle has a place all of his own, as I am sure Simenon himself would of thought so. My opinion for what its worth!
Love the way you narrate the story, Tony! Mysterious, intimacy…. I am a huge Maigret fan after all.
I love Maigret and this narrator ❤. How wonderful 😊.
Thank you:)))
The fantastic but unknown author that you think no one will click on - if he/she is as good as Simenon, please don’t keep it to yourself!
I don't understand
Always love Maigret. Great job.
Excellent story. Great orator.
Thank you.
Good voice and reading for Simenon's psychological style.
Thank you
Enjoy your stories thoroughly. Thank you.
Thanks for listening
I love your voice, your French pronunciation and your commentary! Thank you so much!
Thank you too!
Intelligent well spoken talented self possessed likable high class narrator 👍
I needed to hear that. thank you.
Enjoyed the reading and especially the thought-provoking insights afterwards, Tony. More, please. 👏🏻

I’m from the north west of england but further up by the scottish border
Interesting perception I pick up alittle Harrison too My Favorite Beatle..if you want to see a Beautiful Young man check out his Son!
Sounds like Michael Kitchen to me ?!

I've never heard of this story...What a delightful treat for the weekend ✨️ Thank you, Mr. Walker 🎉
😊😊
I do enjoy your commentary after the story. It’s interesting and insightful.
Working a sudoku puzzle while listening, and Tony mentions sudoku.
Love this, Tony, also this time around, the story; your masterful narration, wise commentary ... again, again,, again Tony. Please tell me again. More Maigret, Tony. Please. Thank you so much.
I do like Maigret so I think we shall have some but do you prefer him to the victorian stuff ?
@@classicdetective Please don`t make me choose. Love them both as long as YOU are narrating, commenting! Thank you! :0)

Love Columbo , Agatha, all of them, love the interesting details
Love your stories but man you’ve got to quit apologizing. You do what you do best and we’ll be there. Those that don’t want to or have the time to listen to the commentary will click off. Keep putting them up.
They don't just click off. They leave negative comments which I then delete!
@@classicdetective We love the commentary so just keep deleting them.
Agree 💯
Negative comments are from negative minds‼️
Positivity comes from us, the overwhelming majority ❤😁
@@classicdetectiveI love the commentary.
Thank you muchly much Tony.. so well narrated.... ❣️Maigret ..
Love your comments on the stories ..
I love Maigret. Thanks.

I like your commentary, and I have been an English professor with a love of Creative Writing. Greetings from "Mayberry," North Carolina.
Thank you very much!
Lots of the American detectives were posh amateurs also, Ellery Queen, Philo Vance etc.
Love it and your voice
Good voice spooky reader.

Super tale and commentary
Great
Thank you for this, sir. Very much enjoyed :)
Nice / Thanks ! (just a trifle heavy on the bass)
It's not actually added. It's just my natural voice for better or for worse.
Well done! Enjoyed!
I’m glad you enjoyed it
This reminds me eerily of the Brabant killers.
Edit: I wrote this before you said you dislike true crime, disregard this 😂😅
Not dislike, just it isn't my genre
A like and a subscription! Thank you!
❤❤
There is a good chance this story, by age of origin, had inspired the `Jeff the Killer´ #creepypasta
Yeah, Georges Simenon is too cool for cats.
KNEW, NOT NEW! getting old!
14:48
Ha!
Maigret the 4 and a half minute egg!
😁🥚
Can anyone explain the creosote fake cigar? It sounds disgusting.
Tony, is that your voice??
Yeah, ... whose did you think it was?
7:28
Is the Polish guy supposed to sound like count Dracula
Yep, it's my standard East European accent. Does for everywere east of Berlin.
I have another for everywhere West of Berlin and north of Athens. I split the British Isles in 3 and Ireland in 2. I have 1 American accent which has to do for Canadian and my Austrialian I use for NZ. I do only have one for South Africa though.
Much better at speed 1.25
Thats really funny because I had someone play that last one at 0.75
who is the reader?
me, Tony Walker
One of his weakest stories. Maigret solves the case only after it's been solved for him.
Had to go potty😂😂😂
I just can't get into the stories about Maigret. He's just not an interesting character. Or maybe it's just that Simenon's writing isn't up to much 🤷🏻♀️😉
That must be why he’s been so popular over the decades.
I dont like true crime either.
A brilliant tale THANK ❤ YOU 🙏
