Lars is an interesting (and loathsome) comparison with Roy. Roy, for all his MANY faults, does actually provide for his family and protect it from external threats, and so a man who genuinely lived up to the ideals Roy espoused in his introductory scene (rather than proving himself an abusive, child-grooming, murderous hypocritical coward when the going gets tough) would be justified in giving a speech like this to a stay-at-home wife, as that would be the deal for their respective contributions to the family. As it is, Lars is doing absolutely NOTHING useful, and has no grounds whatsoever to expect a "real wife" when he is not in any way a "real husband". Any woman wanting to be a "real wife" in partnership with a "real husband" would have absolutely nothing to do with this useless parasite.
This would be a compelling argument if it wasn't for the fact that Roy is a complete sociopath and hypocrite who uses the way he provides for his family as a means to step on others. Make no mistake, Roy is just as immature and irresponsible as Lars is, if not more so. He's just much better at hiding it. After all, of the two, Roy's the one who gets called a baby, not Lars.
@@bradvasoli4244 Exactly. If Lars had married a woman who had agreed with him that they would have a traditional marriage where he would be breadwinner and she would be a stay-at-home wife, and he was actually meeting his obligations and she wasn't, then this speech would be justified. Since he's a useless parasite who contributes nothing, even Roy would probably call him a "waste of skin."
