  • This is a quick and dirty 1-year review of my 2020 Yamaha Kodiak 450 with EPS. After the review, my brother and I go cruising the trails at Tasker's Gap / Peters Mill Run OHV trail system in George Washington and Jefferson National Forest in Virginia. My bro is on a 2013 Can Am Renegade 500, not a 570 as I stated in the video.

    Hope you can help im a first time ATV Buyer im looking at the honda foreman 520 or the Yamaha 450. For riding with my fam were i live we dont have mountains mostly flat terrain. When i rains it floods pretty good so i plan on taking my ATV swimming. Any suggestions you recommend or initial thoughts
    Oh and one other thing is EPS worth the extra money?

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  Год назад +1

      Hey there! I do think that EPS is worth the extra money. Yamaha has arguably the best EPS in the business, but Honda is very good as well. It makes one-armed riding, such as carrying tools or a kiddo much easier. I would highly recommend the Yamaha 450, but if you plan on going through very deep water then I would recommend getting the Honda with the manual transmission because it is sealed. That would only be if the water is extremely deep and you're doing it often, otherwise I would go with the Yamaha. At the end of the day both will be great machines.

    Now THIS camera angle is what I like. We can see you ride the machine, and also see the trail ahead. I think once the video got going though, the camera angle aimed down a bit. Besides from that, great video.

      Thanks! Still a little bit of fine tuning before it's just right, but I like this one a lot as well

    How did you find the suspension. I got 260km on mine and find the suspension much to soft even on the highest spring setting. 2 people on it and the machine is flattened in the rear. Not much ground clearance either.. thinking of a lift kit or bigger tires

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  2 года назад

      I'm actually really happy with the suspension. I do some aggressive trail riding from time to time and it has been good to me at 200 lb. I currently have all four corners on the second lowest setting so I have much more room to crank it up if needed. I wonder if I set of Elkins with a stiffer spring would really help out.

    I believe the bar riser is not correctly fitted. It is on top on the handlebar and it should be at the bottom (minute 5:52). Correct me if I’m wrong please

    Looking at trading my 2018 Honda pioneer 500 for a 2021 Yamaha kodiak 450 eps which now has diff lock! What kinda of top do you get on the 450. Not a top priority but the 38-40 on the little P5 just doesn’t cut it. And I just miss atvs. Had two utvs so far and I’m just kinda over it lol

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  3 года назад

      Can easily do up to about 50 mph. Anything beyond that will depend on tire size & pressure, rider weight, aero, terrain, etc.
      If you need more than that, then the Kodiak 700 might be better. Good luck man!

    • @Nunofreire661
      @Nunofreire661 2 года назад

      @@ThomperBeThompin why do you feel you need the 700? is the 450 underpowered, for regular trail riding? is it the acceleration? Made yup my mind on these kodiaks but 450 or 700? so confused about this because never had an atv.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  2 года назад +1

      @@Nunofreire661 having more power allows you to be more playful with the atv. Meaning, you can spend the rear wheels loose and slide around corners or more easily lift the front end up with the throttle in certain situations. Additionally, the extra power AIDS in hill climbs on loose terrain or mud. That said, the Kodiak 450 has plenty of power to do all sorts of trail riding even on extreme terrain. It just won't be able to accelerate quite as fast as the 700. The 450 is plenty for extremely enjoyable woods riding

    I’m looking for an ATV for hunting purposes. Is this machine worth the extra money over a BF 300 for hunting purposes?

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  3 года назад +2

      I would say it really depends on your terrain, riding skill, and if you're hauling a kill out of the woods. I've been very pleasantly surprised by the capability of the brute force. That said, I wouldn't want to be hauling out a deer on the back with a rifle and other gear on the front racks when there's snow on the ground and any type of hills. That's when you're really going to want the four-wheel drive and the all-wheel drive engine braking for the downhills. If you're simply on flat land and are not going to see too much mud, then I think something like the brute force 300 will be plenty.

      I highly recommend getting the EPS if you can afford it. Is it absolutely necessary? Not at all, but it sure makes riding that much easier, especially if a less experienced person takes the ATV for a ride. I totally recommend it

    As far as size, the 450 isn't hardly much smaller than a 700 but the 700 has diff lock and way more usable power. My wife had a 2019 kodiak 450 EPS and traded it for a 2021 kodiak 700, she likes the instrument cluster better, diff lock and power ! And we just trail ride like you and use for hunting. It pulls up steep rocky paths much easier and gets better gas mileage just cruising 😎 And the 700 has a little bit of storage space.

      @@jessepoorman2621 yes the new 450 has diff lock but the 2019 didn't, and the 450 kodiak is not much smaller at all than the 700 kodiak. And no comparison on power between the two. For a little more Money you can get a 700.
