I've owned 2 2018 Kodiak 450s the one we sold we traded in for a grizzly 700. It had about 5000 kilometers and ran fine. The second one has 22, 000 kilometers on it and yes they are 2018 models
I bought a 2017 Rubicon Deluxe used with 850 miles on it (phantom Camo, windshield , hand warmers, thumb warmers, winch, all the BS) last Summer for $6950. Best decision I’ve ever made. Absolutely love it! But, I’m 56 and don’t care that it tops out at 47 MPH. That isn’t the point. Loved your video!
Buddy had a 99 Yamaha big bear 2wd and never once changed the oil. He drove it on the road alot at full throttle. Wheelies all the time. He really beat that thing. He put some miles on it cause he didn't have a car for years. It had 22 years worth of car miles on it. He stopped riding it for a year and had carb issues but that was it besides the battery.
Who gives a rats tail if your mom bought you the Kodak. You never were telling anyone there quads were trash or bashing other people. It never fails People always got something to say..... keep it up buddy 👍🏼
I bought a honda 420 power steering, straight axle, foot shift brand new in 2013 and I still have it. It is used only for work, collecting firewood, plowing snow( lots of it!!) May 2022 I bought a Kodiak 450 eps mainly for riding on my homestead with my wife and dog at very slow speeds ( in low gear just enough to avoid clutch slippage). The good points on the Kodiak are : comfortable suspention, strong power steering, easy acces for maintnance. The bad points are : bad ergonomics, the handle bars are way to low and away from the driver, the revers gear is way to fast to back up a trailer, and the worst part is the mechanical noise made by the engine/clutch. You can actually feel and hear the gears or strap working especially in low gear. On my first dealer inspection they told they are made like that, I have to get use to it...no way!!! If you are used to the smoothness of the engine/ transmission of the Honda you will HATE this atv !!! I certainly do. This piece of crap sounds like a diesel. I bought this atv cause this was the only japaneese atv available. ( Blame the covid) The rubicon availability is unknown...maybe automne 2022...maybe not. I really regret this purchase. I will not be keeping this crap for a very long time, but will certainly keep my honda for as long as it lives....and then Im just going to repair it. To sum it up, you can go from a Yamaha to a Honda, but not from a Honda to a Yamaha.
I’m glad that the Honda suits you and they are working for you. I really think Honda is a great brand, but I prefer Yamaha. That is what different brands are for. I liked this video. Keep up the good work and I do agree that Honda is a very reliable and great brand! I’m glad you are working for what you have! My 2000 Yamaha kodiak 400 had no problems nor did the 2003 Yamaha kodiak 450. I guess the newer Yamahas are not being made near as well. Honda is what I call OL’ RELIABLE.
Oh man in so glad u made this video, everyone is telling me NOT to buy a Honda. People are so snobby when it comes to brands, who cares. I really want a Rubicon to go wild camping trips up here in Prince George. TY
Listened to your rant. No judgment on abuse, but my unsolicited advice is that you go back to school. Education and work ethic are the pillars to build a life on. Good luck.
Don't worry about what other people think or say bro you can get a bad batch of anything I think I love the Honda Rubicon you made a great decision by buying a Honda by the way I subscribed to your channel just to help you pay for it hopefully that will help some
I dont know how good honda atvs r but my 1990 hoda civic was fantastic ran perfect u dont even know that thing was running sitting in it, guess what it was over 200k. So i support u by saying honda lasts! I will be taking a look at the 520 rubicon vs the 450 kodiak.
Noticed your missing a cv a arm guard haha one of mine fell of two so I took the other one off and am gonna replace them with ricochet skid plate set the stock Honda ones suck
yamahas atv got bad airbox (suck alot of dust) and it causes them to end prematurely. Everything else was because you abused it. I am on your side, the kodiak should hold out better. Hope you keep posting and thrashing.
Yamaha and Honda are both wanderful. Some Yamaha’s are better than some Honda’s. You missed the entire point of the video. My Yamaha Kodiak 450 isn’t as good as the Honda I went with.
Yea I’ve mellowed. Pushing 50 and banged up. I would like power steering I think. Last wheeler I had was a. 2003 rancher. This will likely be my last quad
@@briancupp6767 If you are going to work the bike (towing trailers and such) then a foreman is a good bike but also don't discount the rancher. If you are going to most trail ride then Either get the Rancher with IRS or the Rubicon. The IRS will be more comfortable on the trails. The foremans are only straight axle. You can get power steering on both rancher and rubicons. There is barely any difference in speed or noticable power between the 420 and 520. I own both. If it will never touch deep mud you won't need the front diff lock on the rubicon and you can save a grand or better by going with a rancher IRS, EPS, DCT.
To be honest I haven’t heard many bad thing about them. I got a friend that had a 600. His has been good for him but he hasn’t had it long and doesn’t ride like me. The quality isn’t near Honda or anyone else but for the price there an alright machine
I always like yamaha and honda both... but true is that honda is far better. Had honda most of my life... never had problems once in my life... and i am 44. Driving atv over 36 years. My dad had yamaha grizzly 700 cc. It very good atv. Never had problems with it. If anyone who perfer yamaha. They can! If i were them would buy yamaha 700cc grizzly atv. It best atv i ever drove. Had it for 10 years never had no problems. Yamaha kodiak 450 does seems something wrong with it. Maybe builded wrong. It was 2018. But now today 2023. Anyone who own 2023 to 2024 yamaha 450. Have any problems? I am interested to know.
Hi Jacob, I Have a 2001 Yamaha Beartracker 250, paid 2.000 for it and just got a 2008 Honda Rancher for 4.000. I agree with your statements about the Kodiak . I am new to the ATV world, but I love my Yamaha and can not wait to take the Honda out.
(MOST HONEST 2018 KODIAK 450 REVIEW) (LONG READ) VVVV You have definitely come a long way from that first yamaha kodiak video, I was like this little shit... made me love mine more, but honestly you really did just get a bad batch of kodiaks, I wouldn't buy from that dealer anymore, I say that cause I bout my 2018 kodiak 450 base model around the same time you did, and I still have it.Now its had its simple problems, but truthfully they aren't junk. Honestly idk how yours broke so hard, I hate you got that experience with it, because I love mine. Most problems that Mines had problems was the belt housing gaskets are shit. Belt housing sucks water in like a vacuum. Everyone knows those foot brakes aren't worth a damn. Front brakes been going out. And radiator was covered in mud and it overheated once since I've had it. Broke stock ball hitch just snapped in half. Now I abused it pretty hard the first two years I had it. Was kinda ignorant, young n dumb, just thought the thing was invincible. I've flipped mine 5 different times. In that span. Most that happened was broke some plastic in the foot well, and bent. Thats all the damage its had in that 3 years, and its still going strong. And I rode it like you did when you got your first kodiak. Never broke a u joint, never broke an axel, and I've jumped the hell outta it many times, it wouldn't start one time cause I sunk it, figured out my vent line sucked up mud and thats why it wouldn't start cause I cut it where the mud was clogged and then it started right up. Never had a leak with it. My worst problem is getting mud in the clutch. Other than that, from my honest experience, its a tank. Motor is bulletproof, never had a hiccup. I agree w the handlebars being in akward position, just really need to make them taller. Seats decent. Most thing I hate about it is it doesn't have diff lock, coulda got me through more mud Honestly, but that was stock problems. I put 27" mega mayhems on it and that gave it a nice stance, with little to no power loss. Honestly made a big difference to ride quality. I'm going to pick it up outta the shop today, just got it snorkeled. Not even tryna put it under water, just necessary for that belt housing. Now she's faded almost to pink, but man w them tires and snorkels, its mint. If they hold up good, thats gonna fix the belt housing problem and solve most my problems. Just need that dang diff lock!. Love the ultramatic tranny, things got plenty of power, takes off like a rocket, and arguably the most powerful 450 on the market. The redesign is perfect in my eyes, looks so sleek and aggressive in the front, comes ready to install a winch, wired and all from factory, even for base model. Hated the stock wheels on the base model so I bought a set of the premium black stock wheels of an eps model and it made a huge difference in looks. Still sat low for me, so those 27" mayhems gave it a perfect natural stance, they dig down quick, but they're light and center lug pattern which has its benefits and downfalls, turns better with them. Almost like it has power steering now, but has never been hard to turn anyway. Top speed is decent, before the bigger tires it topped out at 53 on flat pavement. With the new tires it'll do about 48 to 50 so not much difference. (Just don't get mud in that clutch or you're gonna have a bad day.) Again, the gaskets suck and its basically a vaccum sucking up water. Its got the drain plug so you can drain it and should be good, but mud is mud. Thick and hard as hell to drain out. Not a very big drain hole. Snorkel kit is gonna take care of that tho. No storage, but thats what them racks are for lol. But alittle storage would be nice, under the seat there's a cubby but that'll get cut out if you get it snorkeled cause its right behind the airbox. Has the most aggressive look, looks more aggressive than the new 700s. its drastically wider than the older models, puts the old grizzlys and kodiaks to shame. Widened the foot well drastically, plenty of foot room. Very hard to flip. Great center of gravity. Not a two seater machine tho, could add a seat on the rack but w out that its not good, me and my wife are fairly small people and its pretty snug. Couldn't blow my engine if I tried, its such a agile machine you can't help but run it wide open, can climb hills great, like a said great center gravity, plus light weight, and power ratio is mint. You can pop wheelies, but you gotta put some body jerk in it to get it up.. the 700s have that power, even weighing more, to stand it up with little to no body jerk. Its seen many many mud holes and water holes, never had an electrical problem. Pretty sure its marine grade wiring. Fuel pump has never failed. I didn't touch it for 2 months before this last winter and I waited till the coldest week in December which was in the teens and it fired right up no hesitation. Starters never went out, always been strong. Battery life is strong. 3 years of hard abuse, has had its share of problems but ultimately are minor fixes. Belts never broke. Front breaks are good, but they go out alot, figured out thats just cause of the mud. Awesome fuel range, 3 bucks to fill er up and she'll ride all week, 3 or 4 days of hard ripping, she keeps up with all the Hondas. Smoke em everytime on the jump, 420s and 500s, don't matter. Top end is what you'd expect tho. Hondas got about the same top speed. I thought it was just cause it was new, but its been 3 years and they still lack alot of aftermarket parts for it. Hard to find honest detailed reviews for them as well. Most bang for your buck for sure. 7k for a brand new one. I'm at around 1000 miles on the odometer, and she still runs and rides like its brand new suspension wise, and engine wise, except for that occasional random squeak and raddle. that 421 cc liquid-cooled SOHC 4 stroke is mint. Throttle response is good, no lag. Can do it all in high gear, no bog down when in the rough stuff, unless its that peanut butter mud, climbs hills like a champ tho. Thats where I shine the most on mine, most people can't follow me up. Low gear is like most any low gear, best when in the mud, and going down steep hills, won't have to brake much at all. The engine does it for ya. Also doesn't engine brake when rolling backwards like the older models did, so aint gotta worry about flipping back on that steep hill you didn't quite make it up, its like its in neutral, which is crucial for when you gotta roll backwards quick for those failed steep climb attempts. Shocks are good, with stock tires I could jump surprisingly high and not bottom out, and is very smooth on the landing. Like I could jump over another full size atv w a extra foot and land on flat ground n it still wouldn't bottom out. W the bigger tires I've bottomed out, but takes alot. Bottom line is, I started this rant after watching your first vid. You've came a long way from then, but time to clarify. You bought 3 kodiaks that were defective. I mean I get 1, but 3?.. just doesn't make sense. Now I get it, you judge by what you experience. I hate you got that overall outlook on them. Mainly cause there's not many reviews on them, and its such a great mid size atv. Favors all riders, from beginners to professional riders, it will satisfy all.. Hondas are great and reliable etc., but I've never owned a Honda. But ride with lots of them. Keep up with them no problem. They got there advantages and disadvantages, just like all machines. IRS is a must in my opinion. Those straight axels bottom out too easy. Mostly found on Hondas. Electric throttle is nice. But thats just another thing to go out just like power steering. Its a nice feature and all, but is it really necessary? Not for me. If it had diff lock like most Hondas, it would be more than perfect. P.S. ....... when you hated so hard on something that was obviously defective from the factory. Of course you're gonna get hate. Especially when most of them own a well built one. Honestly you are possibly the only 2018 and up kodiak 450 owner with that many issues. I've also got a 20 year old kodiak 450 that is still runs great. Engine still has all its power, its carburated, so obviously its gonna hesitate on the cold start, but after it warms up it starts up right away with hardly a hiccup, idles without cutting off 9 times outta 10". And the big thing is is that its been through as much abuse as you did on yours for that year, for 20 years. Should be in the ATV hall of fame its seen so much abuse and can keep up with my brand new one. And have no doubt mine will last 20+ years like that one has.❤ ....Yamaha. "Revs your heart"
My families not had luck. 2005 Grizzly 660 Special Edition. Such a massive beast, but it has proven very unreliable. Battery always dying, always overheating on the trail, parts always breaking, and our Honda is always towing it back to camp. Carburetor went out so that's yet another thing to replace, which I really hope helps with the battery issue. I've just never seen the reliability stand point that people say about the Grizzly line-up. I'm not sure if it's because of my unusually high altitude and they don't like it being so high or what. I also have two Kodiaks, and the bigger automatic has had a few issues itself and one of them being the sea level sensor was meant for much lower elevations then where I live so I had to replace that. Had battery issues, and starter issues. Never had much problem with the smaller manual Kodiak. Few family members bought Grizzly's but they've also had trouble with them at these elevations.
Have had both and the yamaha is so much stronger motor and never had a problem honda last forever but so gutless and still have a pioneer 700 and a 92 big bear that still runs better than a rancher 420 fact
Honda all the way I have family that still has 1983 Honda 200 trike and go out and first pull same with the 85 250 big red first kick can’t go wrong with a Honda
hondas are the best second is suzuki i have a rancher 420 and a kingquad 750 and neither have any problems kingquad has a belt so i but it below the rancher
plus we have 2 artic cats new and old(shit) yamaha rhino a beast, yamaha grizzly 350 breaks tie rods like no other but it still works, can am commander 1000(goes through u joints bearing and tie rods like every ride) clutch had hairline fractures honeslty its over rated.
I’m late to the scene. But I’m trying to make up my mind on quad. Instinctively, I lean towards a Honda for all the obvious good reasons. But the nearest dealer is kinda snobby & poor customer service. I was looking at the 2021 Kodiak 700. My use is more utilitarian & just doing farm work on a homestead. Assuming I’m not beating the piss outa the damn thing. Would you have a different opinion on the Yamaha? Also. You’re making yourself vulnerable by being on the internet publishing content. As a 40 year old. The internet is full of know it all’s. In real life they’re dipshits & lemmings.
You won’t regret choosing Honda. Just be done with it instead of second guessing your purchase in a couple years, when the love affair with the new machine has worn off and you don’t feel like dumping more money into repairs...The Rubicon is what you need.
I honestly would say go Honda rubicon. Can’t go wrong and the power is fine. If your a speed demon go with a Yamaha Kodiak or grizzly. I’ve heard good stuff about them but as far as mud riding and what I like. They don’t work for me. I had a 2018 Kodiak 450 and it was the biggest heap I’ve ever owned. Maybe the 700’s are better. I’ve heard good things about them
Honda guy, still have 2 420's, went to buy a Rubicon 520 and came home with a Kodiak SE 700 WITH a winch for less money. 1500 miles so far and Kodiak takes abuse just as good as my older 1 gen 420's. The biggest disappointment I had test ridding the 520 was it actually felt slower than my 420 SRA. Add in better ride, handling, and power steering feel the Kodiak 700 won me over. Downside of the Kodiak, Belt drive and uses almost twice the gas VS my 420. 7000 miles on my 420, and it's been solid, only needed a fuel pump canister, few ripped CV boots, and a seal or 2 on the front diff.
This kid is destroying his four-wheeler, abusing it and then complaining about stuff that's not the four-wheelers fault! You can tell by his actions and reactions that he takes care of nothing and is a spoiled child. Don't care how old he is, he is a child. Stop the video at 2:34 and you will have watched 2:34 too much. Take care then, bye bye now!
I’m very glad that you are blessed with that great atv and truck, and that you work hard for it! God bless!
Your doing good bro don't mind what people think or say
Videos like this about longevity are way more important than test drive impression videos
I've owned 2 2018 Kodiak 450s the one we sold we traded in for a grizzly 700. It had about 5000 kilometers and ran fine. The second one has 22, 000 kilometers on it and yes they are 2018 models
We was all young at one time we live and learn i have been looking at the honda and the kodiak 450 thanks for the clarity

Thank you! Buying my first ATV and was undecided till I saw this video. So getting on the list for a 2023 Honda Rubicon Deluxe.

That’s right. Thanks for watching!
You remind me of myself when I was 16. I was literally in your spot. I'm gonna make a similar video soon. Keep it up man.

@Kason Trevor Flixportal :D

Aye that’s what’s up same here keep going bro💪
Crazy how the dependability varies by their products. I agree with the Honda ATV’s being better but Yamaha boat motors whip Honda any day 🤷♂️
Thank you for the information in this video. I wonder how the Rubicon compares to the Artic cat Alterra 570?
Quality wise the Honda is 100x better
Thanks. This video helps with my decision!

I’m in the market for a foreman a Honda dealer has. 2019. Left over. Or should I get the 2021. 520. Is there much diff. To spend extra
20+ just has a little more power. Minor changes. If you don’t care about that stuff. Get a big chunk taken off the price of the 19

Holy crap. I read a book. Yeah man. Respond again tomorrow I’ll read it all.
"I do work for the locals"
Honda all the way I have family that still has 1983 Honda 200 trike and go out and first pull same with the 85 250 big red first kick can’t go wrong with a Honda
What snorkel?
Vid idea Put your f-250 rims and tires on the Honda 👍👌😂
@6:50...A Kodiak would have made it up that
Honda shafts are junk the cup or rear shafts always go out
I would like to see a mountain bike vid
Dude, get over. It. Your always going to get haters. Nice Rides!
hondas are the best second is suzuki i have a rancher 420 and a kingquad 750 and neither have any problems kingquad has a belt so i but it below the rancher
plus we have 2 artic cats new and old(shit) yamaha rhino a beast, yamaha grizzly 350 breaks tie rods like no other but it still works, can am commander 1000(goes through u joints bearing and tie rods like every ride) clutch had hairline fractures honeslty its over rated.
old artic cat was better than the new one because it has a kawasaki 650 v twin in it
oh yeah we also have 2 1994 suzuki quadrunners 250s
Suzuki if you like doing top end jobs. Honda or Yamaha forget the rest.
I want the Rincon
Honda’s are the best
And u even sunk the rancher

Hi
I’ve never been a Yamaha fan. Always Honda here
Ride red 💪
When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging!
powerstoke and kingquads 🤟
Lemme see more kingquad videos
Bears AND Grizzlies??
Had a bear. Loved it and my old Kodiak.
@@JacobOverman oh... I thought you were talking about REAL animals!
Honda is better plain and simple
This kid is destroying his four-wheeler, abusing it and then complaining about stuff that's not the four-wheelers fault!
You can tell by his actions and reactions that he takes care of nothing and is a spoiled child. Don't care how old he is, he is a child.
Stop the video at 2:34 and you will have watched 2:34 too much.
Take care then, bye bye now!
