I use videos like this to guide me on the various vehicles I work on. No two cars are ever exactly the same. With that being said, this has to be one of the BEST videos on youtube. I seriously wish people would do tons of stuff like this. It made my job 1000% easier and probably helped me get the job done 40% faster than without this video. Good work! Hope to see lots more.
this kid knows what he’s doing and knows how to make a proper DIY video. Wish all this info was available 25 years ago. works have saved me allot of grief
I have watched a lot of different videos for the intake removal. Im glad you show more of the removal process. Would be nicer to see more of the intracacies of the process. You showed a few steps that none of the other videos showed. Thank you. Despite having an e39 myself. I was absolutely shocked how hard it was to find an instructional that showed the 99 e39 and not the 97. Great job. Now i just have to refer to this vid a few times so i can get the darn thing back in
@ShopLifeTV you should do a video on how to install an oil catch can for the people that want to delete the CCV , I feel that you go over everything really well and there is not a lot of great videos on how to do it properly on a E46 /M54 engine . You would be the right person to do that:) I hope you do . Keep up the great work . You have helped me a lot with my BMW
The only injector clip I dropped was #2 and it went in the hole between #1 and #2 intake runners. I kid you not, it made it all the way to the floor. I could drop a clip in that hole a hundred times and it would only make it to the floor 2 or 3 times. I feel the repair has been blessed from on high.
thanks a lot, I save a lot because of u, i was having issues with fuel ingectors , and from this video i learned how to disconnect the wiring from fuel injector.i don't know nothing about mechanic but i always try. i had so much trouble with fuel injector 3 &4, i was ready to take my e53 3.0 to the mechanic. what i learned from this video was how to unplug the fuel ingector harness and i plug it back and my trouble was solve.. something so simple cause me a lot of trouble.it had a short circuit or whatever, thanks a lot shoplife :)
Thank you. That’s so much better than the last video I watched. “Just pry on this with a screw driver and hope you don’t break it.” I knew that couldn’t be the right way to do it
i Just bought an E46 and thanks to your videos i have or will be changing Valve cover gasket, Intake Manifold gasket, Oil Filter Housing Gasket, Dipstick and Dipstick Tube gasket, Disa Valve Gasket, Both Plastic Pipes Under Intake, CCV and Oil Separator and power steering pump ofcourse ill be changing all vacuum Lines under intake have i forgotten anything. Mind you im not a mechanic keep up the good work.
SHOPLIFE WITH THE ASSIST!!!! Thanks for posting this. It was a huge help in sorting out my CCV issues. It's definitely a lesson in patience and perseverance. I almost threw out my back trying to get the idle control valve dislodged.
Happy new years fellas! I'm taking out my intake on new years eve watching this very helpful vid. Thank you bud for making this vid. Is helping me a ton and saving me time. 👍
When I first got my e46 3 years ago this video scared me but since I've done most of this work since I've had my bimmer it doesn't look so bad and I know I can tackle this job
I just want to commend you on all the good work you are doing and sharing your experience! Just keep it up👌 you'll be flooded with followers and one day that will pay your bills. Take care!
@@ShopLifeTV i have a 2005 bmw 330i msport, i cant locate the iat sensor, it is not on top of the intake manifold nor is it integrated with the MAF. Please help me
I’ve watched a few videos and yours was the most straightforward. (Always is) I’m not sure why but other removed things that weren’t at all necessary or in the way
Great channel man. I hope I never have to work on that side of the engine anytime soon lol. That looks like a pain. Keep up the good work! Love watching your E46 vids!
On my e46 I cleaned my throttle body and turned the flaps where all that black buildup in the threshold. I did a throttle body reset holding down the gas pedal with the ignition on position 2 for 10secs & taking my foot off for another 10. It actually reset my throttle body. I couldnt rev over 3k. It solved my problem and i hope it solves someone elses
He said dont touch it . I had the end of a screw driver holding the FLAP open . Lmmfao. All is fine . I cleaned the shiiit out of it with Brake cleaner . Not even trottle spray .
Great video. Thank you and appreciate your videos.I am a little bit unsure how you managed to remove the fuel rail without lots of fuel spilling all over the place. I assume you purged the fuel rail first but i dont believe you shared that part in the video. I note this because its probably the single most dangerous and potentially messy part of this manifold removal process. Overall your videos are really clear and well presented.Awesome. Also was wondering if you could have included mentioning replacing the heater hoses that sit under the manifold since you have the manifold off and its accessible. Would really be a waste for someone to remove the manifold and then get the car going and one of those heater hoses in the block starts leaking and they have to take the manifold off again. LOL
I'd recommend also replacing the plastic cooling lines that bolt to the block also. I've been chasing down coolant leaks and mine happen to be bad. I'd you have a coolant leak, check those while you're in there.
Sweet and to the meat. I only need to change the ECT sensor. That's a lot to go through just to get to it. At least thanks to you, I know what I'm up against. I am a subscriber and love the way you teach. Thanks for the all the effort you go through teaching us.
Just followed this vid over the weekend to remove my intake manifold so I could replace the coolant pipes that run under there. What a f'n pain! Anyways, glad I did because the coolant pipes were disintegrating where they attached to the engine, pissin' coolant everywhere! Now I'm waiting for the replacement parts you recommended to replace while I got it all tore apart. Thanks for the vid! Where's the reassembly video? lol
Thank You! This Video help me out a TON! I did brake the DISA Valve upon disassembly I missed a bolt! I have coolant in the Throttle body, My vacuum lines are toast, the tube going to the crankcase/dipstick is a goner. found coolant in a vacuum lines, #6 cylinder intake was full of coolant. Now I need to buy the VANOS Tool set. Removing the cams timing chain, exhaust manifolds, head.
Hey brother thank you you had by far the most detailed instructions for everything hoses pipes clamps as well as once it was off flipping it over and explaining where everything goes and what to do thank you for your time and posting this video
Excellent video! Especially appreciate not removing fuel rail in order to remove intake manifold. Although I do agree that in a higher mileage vehicle, getting the injectors cleaned is probably worth that.
Nice video and good explanation of the job. I had to do a starter on one of these. im putting it back together tomorrow. the starter bolts were honestly the worst part by far. the external torx bolts are really close to the firewall. i had to cut a wrench and weld it to make room to turn it. I wish I knew the fuel line came apart that easily, I took the injectors out of the manifold. thanks for the video
Great video! Also, what a horrible vehicle to work on! Now I understand why everyone says BMWs are terrible for maintenance. Every part designed to fail and be a giant pain to replace.
Great vid. I just finished rebuilding the engine in my 330i and sat it in the bay yesterday. Today I'm installing the manifold and everything that you showed in your video. It's bananas how much work it is.
12:25 I removed and reassembled the intake to replace the coolant pipe, and now the intake doesn't sit tight on the head anymore. I disassembled it again to make sure everything is ok, but it looks like the gromets under the 11m nuts have compressed, and there is a bit of play. These gromets aren't replaceable, so I'm screwed? I may have to fashion a set of washers to take up the slack.
Hairy Names question. Were you having an overheating problem where you would get steam from your intake manifold once temps get too hot and car starts to over heat? Bc that’s my issue and can’t tell if it’s the coolant pipes or not
At 6:19 you unplugged a connector from the back of the manifold. Does a 2004 330ci have that connector? I can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! Also thank you for the helpful video!
Great job making this video and explaining what each part your removing is call as I’m new to working on BMW. At the start it was a little hard to see what you were removing if you can get a small LED light in put in under were your working it would make it a lot easy to see the dark spots. I look forward to seeing other videos you make. Especially if its show the vanos filter location for this model of engine. All the other on you tube or for other models of the engine but none for my 2005 BMW X3 3.0 Thanks.
Great videos man, I like that you think the same way as me too when I do have to pull the intake I replace everything. I personally had my starter rebuilt last time my intake manifold was off too just to avoid the headache of doing it again
Great step by step, helped me get through this job, BUT *** there are vacuum lines underneath and in the back that will break and have to be disconnected, he did not mention taking them off!! I broke the hose that connects the vacuum pump to the intake. And the secondary air pump hose is usually really brittle and mine snapped like a piece of straw
Using this video this coming weekend. My 325i has been sitting to long now. All over a broke water pump. Since I had it close to the overheated side of life I decided a great idea to change out some of the more important gaskets and went about the intake removal a ridiculously stupid hard way. And as I was installing everything I forgot to plug in one wire that is impossible to plug in with the intake in place and bolted back down. Oh what wire was that yep u guessed it the blanking blank blank knock sensors ugggh this was over two months ago and caused me to loose all want to get my baby back on the road
Just got finished doing starter on 06 BMW X3 what a pain it was nothing like the video but at least I know where that bottom boat is under throttle body don't you just love German engineering
I just did this job, I replaced a few power steering lines, all the coolant lines, all the vacuum lines, ccv, and temperature sensor it’s worth it to do it now
Dude I just took on this job today. I think I might have jumped on something to big for me to chew. I gonna do what you recommend with the ccv and all the vacuum hoses. I'm 90% done but didn't get the manifold off yet, hopefully tomorrow. Send good vibes for me to get it done.. 😕😔😐👍💯
on the M52 engine the throttle body is not drive by wire... it has a physical steel cable to the pedal, I did open the butterfly to clean it and it is fine, it is the same a pressing the gas pedal. The year is 1999, 328i

@ShopLifeTv hey what’s the part number or exact name for the injector connector at 7:49 I keep searching up injector connectors only see the actual connector on the injector not the whole shabang
My e60 2.5 starter likes to grind every so often but I don't want to mess with the manifold. let it keep grinding sounds more fun than tearing it all apart. Starters are cheap on ebay so I guess I have to do it.
You do a great job. Lean a lot from you. I did everything in the video now I have a P0414 error. To the 2nd air intake. What wire harness did I miss when reconnecting and where is it located
@ 6:15 the connection in the back of the manifold? Do all m54 models have that connector? Im replacing the engine harness on my car and my old harness doesnt have that connector and is missing another one for the intake air temp sensor, i got a new harness im ready to put it on but i need to know if mine has that connector or not, i stick my hand back there and under the intake and i cant seem to find it, do you know if some models dont have that connector? Can i still use that harness without connecting that connector and be okay?
So good video..did what you said to get everything off but now I'm trying to replace my starter in my 2000 BMW 323i and I can not get bolts loose got any ideas or tricks to brake them loose
Hi. You mentione about the butterfly flop for throttle body. You said don’t move the flop because it messes up the callibration. But its unplugged tho and i’m pretty sure you disconnected the battery. Would that still mess up the callibration of the throttle body?
11:12 can someone help me out on this part mine has 2 fuel lines and i mixed them up! Ones blue and ones black can you tell me which one goes on top and Which one goes on bottom plz and thank you
You do an excellent job. Too many well intentioned RUclipsrs talk way too much - you get to the point quickly and you're accurate.

I wish you could talk about those 2 notorious crispy coolant pipes under the intake. I need to change those, they are still factory original
That's why I came here. Nathan stopped short. Not sure about 50sKid. Still they seem like the easiest part of the job.
Yup that would be an awesome video!!!
YUP, I pulled my manifold off for this reason. What a shit design, those coolant pipes should be aluminum

Hi. You mentione about the butterfly flop for throttle body. You said don’t move the flop because it messes up the callibration. But its unplugged tho and i’m pretty sure you disconnected the battery. Would that still mess up the callibration of the throttle body?
