actual reason ye hai ki sea me excessive vapour, humidity, sweat and salt ke wazah se kapde rang chodne lag jaate hain, koi bhi colour ka uniform ho bahut hi jaldi bhadda dikhne lagta hai, magar white cloths me colouring nahi hone ke kaaran iska colour me discolouring nahi aata hai

Real reason is to hide sea salt which gets deposited on clothes, any other colour clothes will look real dirty and faded with some hours of sea exposure.

Just for u kind information, white uniform is not working rig of sailors. Sailors do not wear white uniform during sailing. It's not cheap. It took time to maintain white uniform.
