    Good morning Mark. The DC Spitfire was the first engine is ever owned. Saved up my pocket money for months to get it. After flying it in a control line trainer for quite a few flights all of a suden the crankshaft shot out of the engine resulting in a crash. Good days and a great little engine. Thanks again for sharing.

    When you said it's really stuck I thought it was going to be a great bid on the challenge, bit of a let down in the end!

      Super stuck motors are depressing. I've failed with really old motorcycle engines, but I'm still batting a thousand unsticking model motors. Once I had to result to the oven to get an early HOPE 29 engine unstuck. Usually boiling water is enough. Thanks,
      Thailand Paul

    Wow. Another greasy old motor turn-on. I'm hooked, hahahha. My latest aquisition is an early 1960s (?) Ueda .45 RC in near running condition. It is the lapped single plug model. The later model was ringed and with dual glow plugs.Thanks for the show as usual. Can't get enough, hahhahah!!! Thailand Paul

    Good condition! Looks totally neglected with chewed head.
    I still have mine bought in Daveys in Norwich in the 60 's with a free can of fuel thron in.
    Mine is still a pefect runner and testament to the quality of the earlier ones.
    Ran mine on a 7x4 in a Champ amongst other things including a hovercraft!

    Hi Mark
    What fuel did you soak the engine in as I have found the paraffin in diesel fuel is not a strong enough solvent to shift baked on castor oil, unless its the Ether that does the trick. Even acetone is not always fully effective. BTW I believe Model Technics has stopped trading, so any idea where can you get Diesel fuel in the Manchester area ?

    • @MarkRobinson555
      @MarkRobinson555  2 года назад +1

      I soaked in Glow fuel, so mainly Methanol which seems to do a great job on the baked on crud. Yes, Model Technics have been bought out by Optifuel, who it seems will not be selling the diesel fuel, but Model Shop Leeds in partnership with PAW seem to be mixing and selling diesel, available on the MSL web site.

      Hahahaha, well spotted! I have actually started in my head, but still need to physically start. I have a couple of things to sort out first, but its definitely on the list to be started soon.

    Wonderful content as always. Is this much vibration normal for these engines? Looked like as if the prop was out of balance on a regular, not-so-beastly little guy of different make.

    • @MarkRobinson555
      @MarkRobinson555  Год назад

      HI, thanks for the comment, yes they do vibrate a bit, its just the way some engines are. The prop would have been in balance, as I always do balance them. Pleased you like the video, thanks for letting me know

    • @caesarillion
      @caesarillion 11 месяцев назад

      I was wondering if you ever modified your props. I've enjoyed recarving them at times. Paint jobs too. Thanks, Paul @@MarkRobinson555

    Well, nice run, BUT way overpropped, I feel. Reduce to 7x4 should make it unload better. (It might not be quite so easy to start, though.)

    • @BigJimMartinGuy
      @BigJimMartinGuy Год назад +1

      I think it's running fine. I have one of these engines and the original instructions recommend a 9x4 prop for sport, an 8x4 for contest, and a 7x6 for control line.

      This video is probably the best example of how to [clean in fuel then a small brass wire brush with solvent, stronger the better [carb cleaner is good], start a small diesel, as a complete beginner age 12, I spent many days trying to start my Frog 100 mk3, very similar engine, till I found the right compression range to get it to fire now and then, then slowly fine tuning either way higher/lower compression & richer/weaker mixture & boy it was a long learning curve!! nb; Prop size recommended was also an 8 x 4 or 6 for the Frog.100
