- An episode of the long running ABC madcap comedy show. This is a relatively rare color episode from the 1965-66 season, the only season in which the show was filmed in color. In this one,Ricky and Kris decide to get themselves a horse.Includes original ads from the episode. The color is rather crappy, just the way it would have looked if you had been watching the show on your color tellyvision set when it originally aired in October 1965.
Heavens to Murgatroyd ! Thanks so much for uploading the whole episode. When I was a kid in the 60s my family didn't watch this series so this is the first time I've watched a whole episode. This classic sitcom ran from '52 to '66, which is a VERY healthy run for any kind of television series. And Ozzie not only wrote many of the episodes but directed & produced all of them ! A very talented family, that's for sure ! :-)
Cool! With the original commercial! Nice
I know ! I love seeing these vintage 1960s TV commercials !!
They were a beautiful Couple and had a gorgeous family . They were good actors together Love this episode too. Their children have some great memories.
color TV's then were different .I remember my three sons and how good it looked in color
Larry Shaver :Those were and still are good shows.
That was an hilarious scene at 21:15 . Rick shooting at the t.v with his hands ,then waking Chris up by hitting her with his cowboy hat...funny stuff
Fat deal!! I can't stop laughing!!! Goofball
I should've kept drinking my Carnation Instant Breakfast. Quit drinking it a few decades ago, now I'm old and worn. Dang nab it.
It's still available as "Carnation Breakfast Essentials".
Barry I. Grauman Ah hhhhh... OK.
I enjoyed the episode--thanks for posting.
It was originally broadcast on November 24, 1965, which was during the show's final season.
+SkyGaming This was the last season, 65-66
Love this episode
Love this show and keeps me eating ice cream and craving Coke a Cola.
I scream....you scream....we all scream for ice cream !! :-)
@@jubalcalif9100 Really?
Gotta love Ozzie. Talented and smart. Everyone has a good side and a bad.
Indubitably ! I read that Ozzie was a fitness enthusiast who not only didn't drink or smoke but swam in the ocean almost every day.
I think that horse is Rick's horse, Tinker Toy, the horse he brought back after the filming of Rio Bravo.
Love those go-go boots on Kris.
Indeed ! They were the "in" thing at the time !!
Rick was very very cute.
According to IMDb, this episode aired on ABC on November 24, 1965
Thanks for sharing !
Lol this is one of my favorites...
Kris and Rick was a beautiful Couple. The way I read their story they both allowed success too come between them both . They both left good memories for Children and Grandchildren. Ricks singer and Kris beautiful paintings .
Kris and Rick were a beautiful couple on TV, but please do some reading about their kids wonderful memories- It’s difficult to get through. Kris passed away on 4/27/18 from a heart Attack at 72. Tracy posted it on Facebook. Perhaps they will find the peace that had alluded them here on earth. R.I.P. Kris and Rick. 7/4/18.
Rick 1984...I think freebasing..plsnr blew up??
@@DJK-cq2uyfreebasing played no part in the crash and that wad debunked decades ago. The cause was a faulty heating line. That plane had a history of heating issues.
I was 12 or 13 and had a crush on Kris. What a doll.
You had plenty of company -- pining for her -- for sure.
Who recognizes Harry Lauter as the stable owner ? Long time cowboy actor, Made many appearances on Gunsmoke, and other westerns.
I've read all of the stuff about Ozzie being controlling, etc. (So was mine!)but bottom line is, his family adored him. Dave went and took care of him when he was dying, even toileted him..if he'd been that bad I doubt Dave would have done that!
What did Rick do for Ozzie at that time?
Well said and well put. David & Rick would not have stayed with the series if they found Ozzie to be overly controlling. And David was the executive producer of the short lived mid-70s syndicated sitcom "Ozzie's Girls".
clean tv
I always thought it was odd that you never saw episodes where Kris & June are doing stuff together like going shopping, having lunch, helping each other decorate their homes etc...In the few episodes where both wives appear, they never speak directly to each other.
This episodes color looks the way it does as a result of color fading.
I have a notion to second that emotion. I don't know if the fading is due to age or if it looked that way when it first aired.
They are faded here. They will soon be releasing season 14 on DVD and are supposed to be remastered quality. I can't wait to see what the color shows look like all cleaned up.
At 20:30. Kris seems to favor her dad , Michigan's old number '98' than her movie queen mom. While her baby brother Mark H seems to favor his mother ,
That's Caroline O'Connor speaking for Standard Brands.
Carolineo connor?
Love it
thanks
Rick sure was cute.
At 15:50 OH uses the same money saving bit with Kris and Rick that OH did a few years earlier with June and Dave . Dave ended up going to old mom Harriet for a nourishing breakfast
At, 13:30, one of only three times that old mom Mrs. Nelson wore pants in the shows that I have seen. Twice during the last season .
Rick's divorce from Kris Harmon was one of the most acrimonious of all time. He had to work a lot of smaller venues just to come up with money for alimony/child support. He was flying to a New Year's Eve show in Dallas in 1985 when the plane (DC-3) crash-landed in De Kalb, Texas
Bob Lemond is the show's announcer.
Guys, this quality was amazing at the time.
this toothpaste is from my dads time. he's got no teeth now.. than-cue
Kris and Rick were a beautiful Couple.
They didn't have the raw sexual energy that 1930s screen couple Wallace Beery and Marie Dressler emoted but I will admit that Ricky and Kris were quite the charismatic couple !!
It was never written in the show's scrip what Ozzie did for a living.
True; Ozzie had no visible means of income on the show.
I loved this family ,big fan of Rick Nelson.I was just 8 during this time.Is it just me or does Kris Nelson bare a striking resemblance to the late Princess Diana? just an observation . It is sad that she passed away last month.
No I think she looks like her Brother Mark Harmon she has the same lines to her face as he does when he was on "St. Elsewhere "
@@larrytucker8717 That is your opinion ,and I have mine.
I can see the resemblance to Diana!
Yes , I think so too.
For sure, Rick and Kris getting out of the sound stage and filming on a local location to ride both a motorbike and a horse was a welcome contrast to the routine. And no 21st Century mandatory helmets for both!
For RUclips viewers familiar with L.A. it should be easy to specify what riding stable and corral this is. It's not Sunset Stables in Beachwood Canyon.
If anyone's in possession of the old call sheets, the information of the filming location would be provided.
I'm quite curious.
Now, as to the story: For 75% of the time it works. However, Rick faking interest for two, back-to-back westerns on TV and remaining in cowboy attire throughout is going a bit too far. Let's see, that's about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. In real life Kris would have said "One's enough" or "one's too many; now, take off that hat!"
Nice montage of Kris -- in a variety of appealing wardrobe -- riding rather well. Either she's a really good actress or she really enjoyed the riding sequences -- or both.
Rick and Kris a beautiful Couple they have some beautiful gifted and talented Children and Grandchildren.
hell no, that's not the way color L@@KED in 65-66. This shaat is all pink. Thanks for putting it up tho. V
The girls on my street, loved playing with our Barbie Dolls,we always wanted Rick to be Barbie's boyfriend.
Was Kris the mother o' the twin boys
Yes. She and Rick had 4 children. Tracy (born 1963), twins Matthew & Gunnar (born 1967) & Sam (born 1974). Kris is the sister of actor Mark Harmon.
Technical color then.
OK here’s how the story goes and it is interesting. The young lady who played Dave’s secretary was in real life Ozzie‘s secretary. They needed a secretary they thought hey she’s good looking and she’s a secretary let’s just use her. One day Rick was playing somewhere with his band I think it was Las Vegas or something. Ozzie wanted to send some people up there to keep an ion Rick so he sent his secretary and also his brother who was one of the riders on the show. They went up there and something happened and the two of them got married. Yes that’s right, just an impulse they got married. I don’t think it Lasted all that long, but my understanding is that’s what happened. Pretty wild huh?
I think Miss Edwards was actually Ozzie's secretary's assistant. Oz's secretary, Sally Hughes, was in a slew of episodes, sometimes playing Darby's wife. Before marrying Miss Edwards, Oz's brother was married to Barbara Eiler who also appeared in many episodes playing various characters.
What the heck happened to Rick's hair????
I wonder if they are cutting close to the bone with this script. Wasn't Kris a real-life compulsive spender?
She cheated on Rick while they were married she had sex with a high school student.
He was 16 she was 35! That's pedophelia
Ok fine underaged whatever like 16 still illegal
To Barz McNeil: One wonders if her behavior was bound to happen no matter who she married. Or, was marrying Rick specifically, and whatever happened between those two behind closed doors -- and between all the Nelsons and Harmons -- significant contributing factors.
Sadly, her cuteness/prettiness makes the story sadder. If she looked like Janis Joplin (a GREAT talent, BTW), people wouldn't care as much. IMO.
@@barzmcneil5839 That's about the age Kris was when became pregnant with Tracy Nelson by 'older man' Rick . Turnabout
I searched "ozzie and harriet final episode" and this came up. :'(
Autobot-Jedi-Iron-man same here.
Episode 435 was the final show.
Ozzie, Harriet, Dave and Rick Nelson are all dead, along with Skip Young. All taking that dirt nap. Kris Nelson is still living.
June Nelson is still with us too.
Of course kris is still alive........vampires are immortal
Kris has passed away too .
Kris Passed away April 27,2018

Ozzie and hart harriot
Hard to believe that Ozzie Nelson was such a single minded, over bearing father who kept his boys under a tight rein. From what I have read, if you look up the definition of SOB, you see Ozzie's face.
You put it all on Ozzie ("from what you read") but none of it on his privileged kids. That seems fair.
Let me ask you, todd, did you ever see Rick on Ed Sullivan or any music/variety program in the 60's? No. Ozzie had him under an exclusive contract. Ozzie was a lawyer and negotiated all the dealings with the show and family with ABC and others.
I don't dispute he seemed to want to control everything with regard to the show and I suppose wanting to guide Rick's career too. He likely thought if Rick started performing on other shows that people might be less inclined to tune in to the O&H show to hear him sing. I'm just saying generally there are two sides to stories like this and we only know what we read. Did you watch the interview with Sherwood Schwartz? He mentioned writing for Ozzie and how extremely conservative he was.
Ozzie was very smart with contract negotiations, and being directly involved in the production of the series. It wouldn't have lasted for a total of 22 years on radio AND television if he hadn't been.
AND, notice the applause at the end of each "act" extends into the beginning of the commercials? Ozzie was the last producer to use that effect on a filmed sitcom, making them appear "seamless" with the rest of the show.
Bars: rephrase that "illegal" phrase. Doesn't make any sense!
Guys, this quality was amazing at the time.
