Ehang, robo-air-taxi is going to 5x, getting the world's first passenger drone certificate, already flying demo in five countries, demonstrated the first highrise fire fighting drone. Huge potential like Tesla 7 years ago. .
Can you suggest why Cogent Communications would be good investment when it has negative shareholders equity, D/E is also higher, Its dividend-paying is not sustainable to its earnings, yield is good but whats the future?
I’m curious, the payout ratio seems unsustainable based on recent SEC filings period ending 9/30/21. Their reporting seems a bit suspect and says unaudited. Wondering if you could provide some additional clarity. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s user error though.
The “dividends” largely represent a return of your capital. They may be able to keep it up with adding to the debt. This guy should follow his own advice and look at the payout ratio before investing.
I know it's a small thing he mentioned, but what really caught my eye is diversifying by buying quarterly payout investments that don't payout on the same month. So you get a monthly payout from a different investment each month.
You have to keep in mind that the example of Apple's stock price from 5 years ago is split adjusted. AAPL split in 2020 4:1 so the actually cost per share was $106.00.
Thanks so much Joseph! I had my first $10,616.12 month in Dividends for August! So exciting to hit my goal of $10,000 a month now just need to get the rest of the year at 10,000 a month. Onward and thank you for all your advice and info! You are the BEST!!
With a market cap of only $3.5 billion, Cogent is perhaps sensitive to the whims of fund managers, and it looks like the company was brutalized last year for some reason. I'm thinking a corporation with a much larger market cap (greater than, say, $20 billion) would have more inertia and be less subject to mass sell-off. What consideration do you give market cap in your criteria?
I agree with your analysis on CCOI. I like more "mass" in a corp, about $8 billion or more. Under $4 billion leaves the entity too susceptible to disaster. Overall, however, I agree with JH's criteria and use several of them myself in looking for good dividend stocks.
How is CCOI taxed come 1099 time? Is it similar to a RIC or MLP where it’s taxed as ordinary income? The breakdown shows 54% ROC and 46% as a dividend. Is the dividend qualified or ordinary?
Recommend ORI dividend champion. $24 stock paid me $3.12 so far this year. One more $0.22 div left this yr. 80 yrs continues paying div and 40 yrs of div increase. PE at 4. Payout ratio is in 30s.
The insurance industry as a whole is the most profitable industry of all. Warren Buffett owes much of his success to buying GEICO, taking it private and using the float to buy other companies. Take a look at AFLAC, if you like ORI so much. Another great total return Dividend Aristocrat.
How about now. Looks like coming back to 2019 levels.it’s PE Ratio is acting like a growth stock , sitting at 59. Usually companies who pay dividends are in low PE ratio. Why this one is so high compare to average PE ratio of SPY.
I have a spreadsheet cross referencing companies to Let's Talk Money videos. Great that you keep explaining the fundamentals. I learn something new each time.
I don't know about CCOI. It has a humungous P/E ratio. And worse it has Earnings per share of .10 but pays out 3.22 in dividends. Where is the money coming from to pay the dividend?
As a capital intensive business, it's better to use price/cash flow or add back depreciation expense to earnings (like is done to find valuation on REITs). Plus, use normalized earnings because pandemic skewed earnings over last year.

CCOI price to earnings is 16.5 times higher than the over priced S&P 500. Its net profit margin is under 1%. Is their dividend payout sustainable over time? No thanks I will pass on this one.
ABS is paying out all of its earningns in the dividend. In other words, the dividend is poorly covered. In price, the stock keeps falling from a year ago, but with seductive climbs followed by deeper dives. None of the analytic services displayed by TD Ameritrade (New Constructs, Research Team, CFRA, The Street Ratings, Ford Equity Research) shows it to be a "buy"; only a "hold". The "analyst concensus" shows it as a "strong buy". I find that curious: a strong buy, yet no buy recommendatios from the research firms. I think that the difference may come from the objective criteria that the firms have in place. Those criteria probably rule ABS out as a buy. The analysts may not be governed by strict adherence to such objective criteria. TD states that earnings information is not available. No, thank you, Mr Hogue. I'll wait.
ABBV collapsed 9% the day after I bought it (one of the 7 dividend stocks you recommended 8/23 video). Well. Understandably, stocks will fall for no good reason. I'm holding because it has good fundamentals as you analyze and the "rubber band" down will snap back up, as I'm expecting. That's why I like ETFs too, not as much volatility. Thanks for great analysis, Joseph!
WTG Tony, hold on to your ABBV, they pay good dividends. Try to include AT& T in your portfolio, if you have not done so as yet. Their stock dipped as low as $27.04 a few days ago. They have a dividend yield of 7.56%. (Annualized DV of $2.08 per share). Two other great dividend stocks are Enbridge (DV yield of 6.71%) and XOM (DV yield of 6.60%. I have done extensive research on some of the ‘dividends aristocrats’. Stay safe 🙏🏽🇯🇲🖤🤍
I like that the ARM acquisition has come out of the price but still trading expensive at 23-times sales. Hard to get excited about a stock that expensive. Definitely changing the world but...that price
I would never jugde dividend yield by how much is average, but how much it gives compared with inflation , 4 % will have you loose money if inflation is almost 10 - 15 % !!!!!
Focusing only on high Dividend stocks instead of total return is simple minded, increases investment risk, and most likely underperforms a simple total stock market index fund.
@@mr.dillon2675 Yes. Dividend investing is more of a mental thing to most dividend investors. They look at dividends as safe income, or free money, not realizing their dividend stocks are just as vulnerable to crash as other large cap stocks in a Bear Market, and the price per share is reduced by the exact percentage of the dividend distributions. Why be forced to take in regular dividend distributions instead of just selling shares on an as needed basis? This is particularly bad in a taxable brokerage account where you pay taxes on those distributions, whether you actually needed them or not. However, if this method keeps people invested and staying the course, it is not all that bad. Even if not ideal, if it gets someone to their target number, that's all that really matters.
P/E is price divided by earnings. The price climbed up in 2019 based on better earnings (from 0.63 in 2018 to 0.82 in 2019), but 2020 the earnings tanked to 0.14, so instantly the stock had a higher P/E. The market has not really punished the stock for its high valuation as they must be considering some other factor to justify its price.
@@mikewest8836 if I had to guess it would be that the market is only punishing it a little bit because it’s 2021 earnings estimates are supposed to go back up to 0.86 so I guess they are seeing this as a short term issue. As was pointed out in the video their revenues did rise during this time so this was just an earnings fall. But, most people don’t look at price to revenue they look at price to earnings.

That caught my future wife to the tune of having to write a $6,000 check to the IRS under Slick WIllie. Both her CPA and I worked every angel we could yet were stuck. She used a Edward Jones Advisor who was a CFP and a good friend. Fortunately she never had to write another check like that again. Peace out
Help me please and what the best stock dividend and ETF and funds for long term or short term, because now all Down and red %
You should analyze all the best Dividend Kings and Aristocrats to invest in!
Thank you Joseph for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Dividend growth is crucial indeed and I do take it into account; at times though I do "sacrifice" it when the company I invest in provides already a good yield and has a good history of steady dividend payments.
Buyer Beware! CCOI has a disgusting payout ratio... What am I missing? You included payout ratio as a criteria for stock picking... and then the one you pick has a horrible payout ratio? What?
What about QYLD? Especially if you reinvest the dividends
consider RYLD. slightly higher dividend yield.
SJT has recuperated nicely!
2 things: 1) Did you know I love to shop for latest fashion trends. Still do, but not as much. Thanks to U , I replaced it with stocks. 2) Always skipped ads on RUclips, but today there's one with Maggi Q promoting energy efficiency. Like Maggi Q cuz she's Vietnamese & French. LOL Parlez-vous francais, Joe? haha
SSSS special dividend in August $2.25. Another one in November.
@Let's Talk about money With Hogue, CFA▫️▫️ Please explain?
If a dividend is being evaluated on March 15.
When is it good to buy then sell?
If you're kind of chasing payouts
Evaluated? Three dates concerning dividend: 1) announcement; 2) ex-dividend; 3) pay. You need to own it BEFORE the ex-dividend date to receive the dividend declared at announcement.
MO is the best dividend stock
What are your thoughts on ORC?
I love it
Would a monthly dividend etf be good for someone starting out? All comments welcome.
I wouldn't buy a fund just because it pays monthly, or even a larger dividend.
1) I would only buy ETF's
2) Buy SPY, IVV, or other s+p 500 ETF as a first fund.
3) Invest half of what you have till the next market crash. I don't know when, but it will happen.
Thank you for the videos. Extremely helpful. I have a question regarding the annualized return calculation--for the example on Apple, why did you calculate the answer to the exponent of .2?
I am looking forward to your response.
The exponent depends on how many years you're trying to annualize. It's the reciprocal (1/years) so 5 years is 1/5 or 0.2 and 10 years would be 0.10
@@josephhogue Thank you so much for your response. Super helpful.
Regarding multiple egg baskets: When I was a kid my Grandmother gave me a basket to collect eggs. The basket was soon full with more eggs to get. I put one egg in my back pocket & then bent over for another. 2 egg baskets are good!
hahaha
Hey Joe, should I start with a investment firm or is using an app on my phone to buy dividends, stock or index
If you are completely new and with a small account (Under $25k). Id recommend Webull or Robinhood and starting with a SP500 dividend ETF. Get familiar with price movements and handling the emotional roller coasters that can come with fun swing plays haha Hope this helps you out.
In the end, the old adage holds true "Time in the market, beats timing the market"

Great educational video! What free screener can be used to imput these or any custom criteria do you recommend?
I haven't heard of it, thanks again always great info and tips
Awesome video Joe!!
What do you think about it’s PE of 708? Isn’t that overvalued
Out in the UK were going through some tough times with a cruel self serving government, however i am lucky i have a steady job. Thank to you for the advice, and the honesty, you stand out from crowd, giving people useful tools, to be an amateur investor like me, i am able identify better stock than before now thanks in part to you getting there thanks.
I followed one youtuber in the beginning he encouraged viewrs to buy bum stock never told you about pe ratio or debt or checks charlitan he is.
Joseph, what is the payout ratio of CCOI?
That is also what stopped me. Besides that it had quite the run. It is interesting, but I would only invest if it comes back down significantly.
Thoughts on digital real estate?
if i buy 1 share of rio can at 25.00 per share divident payout is %4 yeild i get 1.00 per share in divident per month?
So what was the one stock?
CCOI price to earnings is 16.5 times higher than the over priced S&P 500. Its net profit margin is under 1%. Is their dividend payout sustainable over time? No thanks I will pass on this one.
How do you feel about FXI and EWZ long stock with 30 delta short calls?
I use MO and O... but i can add more now.. cause i know what to look for.. THANKS
The volatility is great to buy at discounts .
Buy more, those “FDA warnings” are old news (back from April) so people can buy lower…it does have a sweet dividend!!

Is NVIDIA a buy right now????
I like that the ARM acquisition has come out of the price but still trading expensive at 23-times sales. Hard to get excited about a stock that expensive. Definitely changing the world but...that price
You sir are awesome..I didn't really expect a reply, much less the same day.. I love your channel.
Really enjoyed the information provided here thank you
I would never jugde dividend yield by how much is average, but how much it gives compared with inflation , 4 % will have you loose money if inflation is almost 10 - 15 % !!!!!
I hate share repurchases. It only rewards the seller of the stock. Far better to the share holder when the company pays a dividend to their owners.
Focusing only on high Dividend stocks instead of total return is simple minded, increases investment risk, and most likely underperforms a simple total stock market index fund.
Totally agree but you see it’s not liked much on this post. Making sensible investments is not always popular.
I agree w a 4% or >
You turn a blind eye to payout ratio?
Why do you think that?
Always I try to sell for a loss that way it makes me feel like I'm winning the game more.
Can you explain the PE Ratio on CCOI please, that is quite a ratio makes Tesla look cheap.
@@dalehurtt4586 I’d like to know those other factors thats quite a ratio. Frankly I will wait for it to pull back before I invest in it
@@mikewest8836 if I had to guess it would be that the market is only punishing it a little bit because it’s 2021 earnings estimates are supposed to go back up to 0.86 so I guess they are seeing this as a short term issue. As was pointed out in the video their revenues did rise during this time so this was just an earnings fall. But, most people don’t look at price to revenue they look at price to earnings.
@@dalehurtt4586 Making a yield is nice, but this thing could lose 95% and still look expensive if the multiple contracts. R/R completely out of whack.

just looking back this was around 92 bucks when this video now its 52! wasn't so great after all!
