Hi! I'm really looking forward to the next chapter - it looks great in the pictures you shared on Kickstarter! When solving I was a bit distracted by trying to keep multiple cameras simultaneously framed on it and in focus - perhaps if I'd been looking at it directly I for example wouldn't have misinterpreted the knife handle as an addition sign through the slot. I don't suppose that's the kind of thing you'd ever think would be a problem! :)
I enjoyed this game. The clues were interesting and I did follow along with you after I got the solution myself. Thanks again for a terrific video. I’ve watched so many of them and enjoyed every one. 🇨🇦
That's so kind of you, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've had the second in the series for a while but not got round to filming it yet. There's also a third (and final) one, that I don't think the creators have finished making yet but which I should eventually receive in due course.
Some of the puzzles left a bit to be desired. Not sure I liked the riddle under the rug linking to the skull. Still excitedd to see the next chapter. Really enjoy watching you reason your way through puzzles.
Thanks so much for watching, and glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I thought about this afterwards and I think if the rug and skull had been placed together it might have made a nice clue, but they are at opposite ends of the room. Or perhaps the skull could have sat on a piece of fabric that matched the rug. But there is nothing to link them, so as a result it doesn't function as a clue and I assume the intention is that AFTER solving the riddle you work out the answer must go with the skull - but there are multiple problems with this, not least that you can't easily get a hint to the riddle (as I showed by accident!).
I love your videos and the work done on them (multi-angle, post production...) Although I am a big fan of EXIT, I must admit that I really liked this new escape game. I hope to see Laura again soon, you are a great duo 👍
Glad you enjoyed the video - I thought it would be impossible to show clearly with anything less than three simultaneous cameras! :) And yes, Laura and I have a few videos we’ve recorded together that are just waiting on me editing them, and we also did another today as I type. I have to admit it’s more fun solving many of these with two people. :)
Interesting concept...from the thumbnail I thought at first it was a video game! Had no idea these existed at all, but they definitely come closer to the tactile, looking in every nook and cranny nature of a real escape room than a lot of the other series. Shame it wasn't used more.
This is currently pretty much one of a kind, although there are a very small number of similar products. Perhaps the closest in terms of 3D cardboard is Thinkfun's Escape the Room: The Cursed Dollhouse, which is only available in the US and Canada (I think) despite their earlier two games being released internationally, although I haven't solved that yet (although do have a copy). But there will be some 'competing' 3D pop-up games from Key Enigma shortly too, whose Kickstarter campaign (that lifted some of its promo language directly from the campaign for Thornbright Mansion!) recently closed having raised almost 150,000 Euros: www.kickstarter.com/projects/keyenigma/crime-manor-pop-up-mystery-escape-game
I bought this one from a Facebook ad, and it's one of the few escape room products I've regretted spending money on. Like you, I didn't see how we were supposed to connect the riddle under the carpet to the Skull. And the portrait puzzle was basically just brute-force. After working out the family tree, there are four different people who are brothers of someone, and six people they could be said to be brothers of. Absolutely no indication of why we should assume the portrait is of Alastor. I won't be buying Chapters 2 or 3 unless someone like you indicates their quality is a giant leap forward from this one.
Looked awful from the moment he opened it up, because there's no clear starting point. A cardinal sin of puzzle design. No surprise it's such a confusing mess.
I got it from a Kickstarter campaign, and it looks like there's now a button on it to order directly: www.kickstarter.com/projects/envelescape/envelescape-pop-up-escape-room
I take it you are not a fan of riddles? You didn't seem impressed 😂 I think the damages they are referring to are the scratches, which makes me think one of the children has gone feral or maybe even bestial?
I don't mind riddles, but I personally don't feel they belong in escape rooms. If you can't solve them, you can end up stuck - unlike with most other puzzles, you can't really just experiment until you eventually sort it out. You might never have whatever abstract inspiration is required.
Thanks so much for taking the time to play through Chapter 1! We really appreciate the feedback and critiques 😊

@@emmaforbes8306 a puzzle should never *require* a hint in order to be solvable.
This looks like an AMAZING game!!! Where would I be able to purchase it? 😄😄😄
