Bravo! This band is one of my favorites every year. As a former band director, I appreciate the hard work that goes into the preparation for a performance of this quality. Congratulations to each student and staff member involved in this wonderful band program. Keep up the good work.
Some observations: Tall trumpet player at 6:07 mark at the 35 yard line literally took his arm and pushed the trumpet player in front of him forward. The staggered rank about-faces (not sure on the technical terms) at the 7:25 was sloppy and quite a few rank members missed their about faces and either took larger/smaller step sizes or stopped marching to get back in line especially in the upper-right of the video. I honestly thought this performance was a borderline 2. In addition to some marching issues, I thought a lot of the brass was overblown at times.
It’s interesting that in high school I thought all those issues should have resulted in a 2, but now that I’m a spectator for these shows I have always found this one to be great fun to watch because of the energy in the playing, it’s hard to hear some school’s bands especially at football games so I love that Longview played with lots of volume here.
Purple Pageant is a very popular tune with Longview Bands over the years. They really covered the whole field...makes me tired just seeing all that marching...Go Lobo Band! Always like the fanfares at the end!
Also a lot of bigger bands don’t try anymore because they can go to NAMMB and those larger ones that do not go to NAMMB do not go because they don’t want to get a 2 or 3 or 4 and have their kids be ashamed because at UIL Region they got a 1...a large excuse directors use for not going to NAMMB is “not enough participation”
Why do two of their drum majors have drill team outfits on and only one has a true drum major uniform? And why do they mark time? (Military drum majors don't mark time). Aside from the silly-looking drum majors good performance by the band aside from the brass blasting a bit too much at the end trying to be loud (don't need that with a 240 piece band).
The two with the "drill team outfits" are actually majorette uniforms since they were majorettes and the middle drum major wasn't so she had a regular marching uniform
Being from lufkin, we have a standing rivalry that has been around for ages, this aside, I am sorry but I do not think that this was a "superior" performance, there are far too many individual and group mistakes, the intonation is way off, overall, I would have given it a 2.
Noble Lundberg being from Huntsville is have to agree, there lines weren't really straight and there were many mistakes. Huntsville makes mistakes too but we immediately fix them.
being from longview , i absolutely think this was a superior performance . regardless of what “ standing rivalry “ we have against lufkin or whatever lol ... our intonation is not off at all , considering we split the field and were still together . you couldn’t hear a difference in the sound , it sounds as though we’re still in one big block .
Trin once again , being from longview , i have to say you’re wrong . our lines were straight most of the time . our dynamics are very noticeable and i don’t see what you’re talking about .

The first song is called "Bird's Battlin' Brigade." It was written by A&M's band director as a tribute to a high school band director.
I was in the band this year, and he actually came and worked with us. Really nice guy!
Sharpest Tuba's i've seen around..Great sound..!!

Im the 70s and 80s that band was awesome. They done pop the turns like the did.

Back when I was high school in the late 70s, Longview was the gold standard that we looked up to. They are still very good.
Something bad happened at around the 6 minute mark on the left. Several students were in the wrong place.
outstanding brass section
Do military marching band ever win state or even go as a former band member I can tell you originality and routine play a big part of judges score
Military Style marching bands rarely ever go to state in higher divisions since the scoring is highly biased towards corps style marching bands

in 2016 in 4A, spring hill (in longview) got 5th at state

That drill is the cleanest Ive seen. Those to the rears are so snappy and precise

Noble Lundberg not to mention there wasn't really dynamic difference during their whole performance

From longview its the playin that the judges really look for
