bro i train karate 6 years and thaiboxing 2 years and i like to left jab right cross left hook he go back and right ushiro mawashigeri when i can hit him its good when not i finish after the circle with a left mawashi lowkick to the inside of his left leg!!!!!!!!!! omg i love it
Sensei, thanks very much for this video - a very timely reminder for me on the various combinations and variations. Very top quality explanation / instruction from you. (Goju Kai / Goju Ryu for 15 years).
Bas Rutten used to feed his opponent low roundhouse kicks then feint one into a front kick to the guts. He could easily knock opponents down if they tried to check the roundhouse.
Jesse, I'm a Kyokushin practicioner and I must admit that this video section really helps me and open up my mind to new techniques. Some that you explain here are new to me and I must say this is very helpful. Thanks a lot Jesse,Nice dojo btw, would love to train there XD Osu!
Jesse Enkamp's teaching approach is perfect and a great inspiration. It brings me back torwards karate fundamentals the way they are supposed to be taught. His teachings are so rich in style and strategy in which is a signal of fundamentals, and not swaying from the true karate way, or martial way.
I grew up practicing tae kwon do and boxing. What my father learned and then taught me and my siblings. The thing I like best about karate is that it is straight forward. Not a lot of fancy like most gung-fu and tkd. Over the years and thru many, many fights as a kid I learned to dispense with the fancy and just go. I thoroughly enjoy your teaching and explanation. Thank you.
Fancy stuff is... Its like dessert. Sure, you have it. But the main nutrienst should be more meat n potatoe style. Aka alot of "normal" punches (jabs, cross, hooks) with Some regular kicks (teeps, low kicks, body kicks) to vary things and add reach. THEN maybe head kicks and spinning attacks as bonuses.
Nice video. A combo I like and use is the Andy Hug special which is low low fake back leg front kick switch to roundhouse. Gets them everytime. Also another one is outside low inside low roundhouse spinning hook kick.
I'm glad to discover that the #10 combo is by a proud fighter from Québec, Canada, who was first a Kyokushin karateka, before going MMA : Georges St-Pierre. Thanks for all those suggestions, Jesse the Karate Nerd. I guess I'm not the only not very flexible guy capable to produce jodan kicks who appreciates those options you present.
My only problem with this video is its too short. 😁 Please do more combos. Its really interesting to learn from you and hear your take on things. Thanks. 😁💗👍
Jesse, I don't think I've disliked a single one of your videos in the several years you've posted them, but this is almost an exception. There distance in these drills is off- you start from too far away for a low kick to be the entry technique, and do exactly what you tell us not to at the beginning of the video by not being close enough when throwing it. Also, your uke needs to move as you attack. Standing in one place and dropping multiple leg kicks works okay in a Kyokushin tournament, but doesn't make sense when starting from that distance and moving in. Also, you should specify this is for low round kicks- you have a gedan yoko geri from hell, and we didn't get to see it in this video. 😉
Hey I really enjoy your how to improve videos. I've been practicing kenpo and jiu-jitsu since I was 6 and very recently I was diagnosed with a softball sized brain tumor that took 4 brain surgeries to remove and even still I need radiation therapy sessions. In doing so I was living in the hospital for 4 months and learned that many things that i used to do would have been forgotten. Things like auto racing, playing the piano and martial arts are taking a very long time to relearn. Your how to vids are helping me regain my old self again and after watching this video I began recalling many more things. Thank you again. I really appreciate it.
It isn’t really a combo but my favourite kick technique is to bring your leg up in front of you (as if to do a mai Geri) and snap your hip out to the side into a (mawashi geri). Thanks I am stealing some of these
I was actually shocked when I discovered you on RUclips, you are the first one who treats karate in his videos and is successful with it. I really like the way you do karate videos. I've been doing karate since I was 3 years old. So almost since I can walk :) I am now 19 and already have the 3' Dan, I would care the how many dan you have? :) Greetings from Germany :)
Jessie, fantastic, you have given me a whole new repertoire I'm 52 years old and I'm working on my style what's boxing for the upper body, in the style just like this for the lower body combined with knees and elbows for self-defense,... besides the inside low kick in front stop kicks this is been a awesome door open for me to add to my Style thank you very much... very innovative and creative oh, I'm getting to work now LOL
love these!! My dojo focuses on kicks above the belt etc most of the time so this is great to learn some new combos and how to properly low kick!! than you!
EPIC VIDEO JESSE. I'd like to see other videos like this in order to show how karate could be effective also in MMA or fullcontact/self-defense fights. Can you also upload something about bones and body conditioning? You are one of the best💪💪💪🥋
In Taekwondo we aim the kneecap with a straight kick (front kick or side kick). It's a very dirty move because it can permanently destroy the knee if you kick strong enough (like anyone who is serious in their training). If we want to be tricky and play around we can do a regular low roundhouse kick, immediately (without putting your leg on the ground) followed by a twist kick to the face. Maybe I should make a video about it and other kicks. Karate is part of Taekwondo's base but Taekwondo really took kicking to another level, which is what separates it from other martial arts and makes it so unique. Props to Koreans for that^^ Note: I am not talking about Taekwondo sports sparring, most players there have ridiculous (terrible) technique.
Kyosanim Mark I saw your channel, that's pretty good Taekwondo :]. Where did you get all of those beautiful trophies I see in your room, if you dont participate in sparring, forms competition?
Pugglen I did, I never liked it though. Rules were a little to strict for my taste. And also many of those trophies are from my brother as well. A few are from soccer when I was young.
Another thing I’d like to share is kicking with the ball of the foot which is done in Isshinryu. Low kicking with the ball of the foot to the chin, knee, lower foot and all the places you mentioned will more than likely maime a person or cripple them so they could not fight back. Isshinryu traditionally uses no kicks higher than the waist and for self defense it’s perfect. Thanks for sharing and helping people understand bunkai too along with the importance of Kata. Keep it going Jesse!
We usually stand with the hips more squared in relation to the opponents, i.e not as typical point Karate stance but more facing the opponents almost with both hips facing the opponent. It can sometimes be easier to camouflage the kick but at the same time you need to have a high core strength, as in all Karate, to get all the power through the kick by using the hips and the core. But this does as well depend on body size, muscular build and quality of technical execution. Great demonstration of combinations, Jesse Sensei. And yes, we use it a lot in Kuyokshin as it can be really devastating. But fortunately, I have in my long career only used it in sparring or kumite, thanks god I never had an actual street fight. 🙏
Thanks for the video, I like it because it is usefull for me as a Kyokushin karateka. Point to consider: if your low kick is blocked with the knee it will be very painful for you, so I tend not to use the low kick as the first attack in the combo when the opponent is in his good balance, strength, and reading capabilities. I like to feint with some strikes to the body and than follow/end with a low kick. I wonder why most combo's consist of 3 techniques, is there a reaon or explanation for? Is it to keep it simple because that works the best? I mean 4 or 5 attacks are less simple than 3. And I agree that for combo's there is one good rule: the simpler the better.
Amazing video! I pratice Wing tsun now, but i also praticed shotokan karate for two years. In that time i never saw a low kick, maybe because i was a low belt...
definitely painful without any protection, but regarding point fighting, when you have those leg guards on, you can take multiple kicks no problem, so it's lame that it's not allowed, but oh well, you can't throw with two hands either anymore....the only thing i like about point sparring is that you control your attacks to the head, since logically, you cannot condition your head with hits, but that's about the only thing i like about it.
This was totally awesome, man! I knew Karate had leg attacks but I didn't know they were so perfectly attuned for combos. I do Taekwondo, which lacks leg kicks, but I was looking for a source of ideas that I wasn't finding in Muah Thai, which I'm not a fan of. These are so much better as they create more variety and better combo chaining. Unpredictable and fluid. Love it! This is way more compatible with my Taekwondo combos. Fantastic vid, thanks so much for posting this! You've given me a ton to think about!
Very informative video, Jesse! I have often tried to expand my use of the low kick and had a bit of trouble making effective combinations with it. This video really helped me to not only incorporate the combinations you've shown, but to also work on my own. Thank you, Jesse!
I would love to see a Kumite video Jesse I bet your a great fighter. Maybe you could even show the similarities between Kata and Kumite. I love the content as always! OSU
I wish I could share your well rounded influence, positive nature, and traditional/modernized etiquette with our Shihan and Senseis. Unfortunately, and I'm sure you understand on some level that they frown on RUclips influence. We study a traditional Shotokan style doctrined by Shojiro Sugiyama, and we have seen some issues where kids are modifying techniques by learning ahead on RUclips. I share with my family your videos in house, the kids love to watch and learn from them. Please continue to create them, and who knows perhaps some day you'll do a seminar/camp in the capitol region of upstate NY. Thank you 🛐 P.S.- The Seishin Gi 🥋 looks amazing, we hope to try them first hand some day.
At first I didn't understand the idea of using karate in a practical way. Because it's often seen as point sparring and so on. But after you explained that a couple of times, how there are different uses and styles, it now makes sense. And also because Michael J. White is a karate expert and fan as well, I think that must please you? Haha 👍
I remember seeing andy hug pulling off a gedan ushiro mawashigeri, on ernest hooch if I remember right....a thing of beauty that even his opponent acknowledged during the fight💪💪
Your exactly right too, in all the shotokan tournaments I entered I always damaged my ankle/foot! All my injuries were self inflicted!! Once I trained kyokushin for a few years it 'cured' me 😁👍
Dear Jesse. According to my research. Even considering the devastating action of a low kick. The main and very main reason is that your opponent is grabbed when you kick so very close. If you check the Goju ryu katas or the book by Sensei Nagamine where he talks about the kinteki geri. A gueri with the bone and no distance needed. Regards
Nice, I'm on to try it at sparring at the gym. I don't see any problems by kicking with the top of the food, using the bone (haisoku). Considering that the whip mecanic of karate, the force is thrown to the extreme top of the member joint that is attacking.
Really solid techniques as usual Jesse! Always gives my partners some nice surprises when doing my muay thai sparring. I'll try some of these out the next time! :D
Iam from suriname is a country in south america where the best kickboxer are coming from like tyrone spong and ernesto hoost both your video is awesome good technigues
Jesse this video was great! Unfortunately I injured my foot when lowkicking in my allstyle fight, could you make a video showing how to tape you ankle/feet for protection and stability whilst avoiding cutting the blood circulation to the foot? Big fan of you and you brother👊
I have a very funny experience with using low kick. I am a south paw fighter and I almost to won every kumite with this move actually. Because I am a close quarters figher. I actually do a low kick motion but using a knee kick to the opponents thigh. I won every round and some times switching that to using a knee to lever. I was at the time rochester competition in kyokushin tournament. But in the type of the fighter video you recently uploaded, I knew I am a gifted fighter because I am patient with enduring the attacks I use my observation to my advantage. In result, I could've been a real martial artist.
Thanks for your kind comments! :-) I'm so glad to hear that you like my work. Visit my website to learn more: www.karatebyjesse.com
bro i train karate 6 years and thaiboxing 2 years and i like to

I would like to see some of these techniques filmed from above, especially stances, hip work and kinetic chain.

It's simply satisfying to see and hear those kicks land cleanly. Definitely like that Flying Low Kick.
I would like to see you fight in the KARATE COMBAT event 👊

Worked like a charm in Muay Thai sparring today
You need a new gym. Some of these were good but most were pretty bad
Master Enkamp.I live in India . Your videos have helped me to build a greater and better karate technique. Thank you very much
My only problem with this video is its too short. 😁 Please do more combos. Its really interesting to learn from you and hear your take on things. Thanks. 😁💗👍

Dan does not matter bro! Skills does!
3rd DAN at 19 ? uffff
Loved the moves! I will be practicing all of these kicks. By the way though, the Superman Punch is from Muay Thai, it’s called the Cobra Punch
I have been on a roll these past few days watching your videos. I feel so rejuvenated in my pursuit to continue my Karate
Thanks for your works Jesse!
I’ve just recently started my Karate journey along with my son.
We find your videos very useful and inspirational.

I remember learning this at lessons. Never really used it during tournaments bc of my short legs and very bulky gear; It really gets in the way.

I love numbers five and six!! Beautiful!
I've started to use the combo #7, gedan mawashi geri + yoko geri in my sparring, and man, this works really well!!! Thank you Jesse!!!!
Great to hear! Keep kicking it 👊💪👍
Thank you Sensei Jesse! You are doing Great things for the Karate world. Please keep them coming. 🥋
i do shotokan karate and all of these tips help so much
It's been a long time I watch one of your videos. I really did miss all your awesome explanations and the rare info in your channel. Keep up Jesse.
Welcome back Niluka!
Great video Jess what i liked most was there was something for everyone dependent on your style of fighting ...
Jesse teach us forbidden kicks. Thank you brother

God tips on using different kicks.
If executed correctly they can definitely do damage. OSs
Master Sensei Kenny🥋🥋🥋🥋
I loved these combinations. Nice video. Thank you!
Makes a lot of sense retrospectively... Good video Jesse!
Great ideas. Thank you.
Very useful for someone who is not very flexible and cannot kick high
I love the “ outside-inside lowkick finishin with rear head kicks”
Amazing video! I pratice Wing tsun now, but i also praticed shotokan karate for two years. In that time i never saw a low kick, maybe because i was a low belt...

I'll practice those techniques. Thanks for the another knowledge. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Kyokushin. Woohooo :D
Very informative video, Jesse! I have often tried to expand my use of the low kick and had a bit of trouble making effective combinations with it. This video really helped me to not only incorporate the combinations you've shown, but to also work on my own. Thank you, Jesse!
Sweet! Great to hear 👍 Good luck!!

Jesse i want to grow up to be just like you and your a good karate sensei
Love the low kicks. Good video
Me too! 😃 Thanks!! 🙌
I use low kicks and one that works effectively for me is a knee to the thighs. Also a inside hook kick to calf.
Don’t tape any more, start active rehab and experiment with optimal load
Thanks, I really needed this!
Dang. Those edits are spot on. Great video
