Thanks this is kinda interesting. I’ve been thinking about some similar themes in Aus music of the time, but also in term of the sheer spaciousness country and the hauntingly beautiful desolate quality of its landscapes. While I understand Bruce is talking from a Melbourne perspective and about Au-go-go, it does seem a little jarring to a old Gen xer from Sydney to hear these bands described as ‘Melbourne music’, being the featured bands formed on Perth and Sydney. And there was a discombobulating for me in describing the ‘swampy, thick, fetid air’ and the coldness of Melbourne as some kind of synergy. Sydney had a fantastic music scene when those bands were new…we just sweated more…and it isn’t the weather that changed things…it’s gentrification and the pokie lobby. Hence Melbourne now is the premier music city…good on you for voting in more progressive govts.
I'm sure they like to listen to old blues, but I hear little "American South" in the Scientists but what's heavily washed and filtered through the Stooges and Cramps. Phenomenal band, though. The Australians certainly did give it back.

First time listeners, please don't go by the audio sampled here, seek out the original recordings to appreciate the music.
Clinton forgot he wrote a Bon Scott book as well!
