I used to watch a show on TV called, forged in fire. After watching a lot of them then watching your videos I have come to the conclusion that you make way better knives than any one of those that I have seen on Forged in Fire. PEACE!

@@MartinHuber_Knives Ok I have to catch up on my favorite creators here. Got a bit of a backlog. Ok now I'm jealous. Gonna watch all of your stuff first though.
@@MartinHuber_Knives Thats cool. I will have to watch his video as well. I am trying to save up to get one of his AK's. There is a funny rumor going around right now that he is being considered for the next ATF director. Of course, it won't happen, but we are all dreaming of it. Would be awesome!
Modern damast smith are all racketeers! They often create difficult elaborated damast and then they devalued it by grinding off a lot of material to form the edge. 45 years ago, my master told me, the secret and most efficiency of damast is to forge the edge as close as possible to its final shape by hammering. I wish, i could forge my dream-knife in such an environment.
Actually its not even that much of a benefit to forge to shape, because yoz have de-carb om the borders, so you would weaken the steel! aswell as it takes ages longer for the same result, and so it would cost more for the customer :)
Also to add to this, 45 years ago people didn't have the equipment we do nowadays, so forging the bevels might've been the most efficient way. But it's not nowadays. No one really cared about decarb back then. And if you forge bevels in the damascus (or laminated steel since modern damascus smiths are racketeers) the pattern gets all skewed and ugly, and since pattern is why you do all the hassle it really shouldn't be skewed.
Ok the Knife is cool for sure! But where can I get your playlist for this video? I totally love it. I do love watching how you work too. So I will be back. Thanks😍🤩
With that much borax used, do you even still have a forge liner or is it all just soup now, lol? Awesome looking Pukko, you damn near hit Lukko sizes there!
Will it fell a tree? Pleas test that out! Pro-Argument: it's made by the best (and only) professional knifemaker i know! Con-Argument: the chainsaw is only used as clading and the cuttingedge itself is made from a non-treefelling-material!
It’s impossible to weld chain without defects. I love how some og smiths saying that chain si the best material for beginners 😂😂 But this look really nice
Pretty good Martin. I asked you several years ago why not trying such forging. Your answer was something like "i will never do such shit with nails, bearing balls and chainsaws because the material is shit."
ey alex steele did a vid like this in the past n i love the patterns that the chain makes, say if you were to do this again what things would you do diffrently?
How did you, Martin, get into smithing and metal working? Clearly it's a learned skill. Does the metalurgic knowledge come from practical learning or a lot of book learning, trial and error?
Since i got a Core steel in there i dont really care about the chain, i do the heattreat for the core :) Yes, in classic MH Style i put some pure nickel inbetween cladding and core 😄😄
Okay, i watch a ton of smithing videos and channels, so i feel dumb for asking: what is the purpose to adding borax? Does it add carbon or something else to the metal?

awesome!! did yours work fine or had small flaws too in the first billet?
@@MartinHuber_Knives oh yeah, I had a flaw in the center spine area of the billet similar to yours but I just split it there and ground it out.

have you tried chainsaw blade in a canister? I also like the work music
Nope not yet - in europe ita a little harder to get the powdered steels thats why i never really did a lot of canisters
