Nice video, mate! I've been playing GTA since 1997 (GTA 2), and yeah, I agree-the best versions are definitely the PS2 and the modded PC ones. But honestly, there are two big reasons why I end up playing the Definitive Edition more these days: The draw distance on the PS2/PCSX2 version sucks. I mean, I put in thousands of hours back in the day, but now? Nope, can’t do it anymore. Modding the PC version is a pain. There are so many cool mods, but at my age, I just don’t have the patience to mess with all that stuff anymore. So yeah, I’d say the Definitive Edition isn’t all that bad. Flying the Hydra with that annoying camera is a bit of a pain, sure, and the art style isn’t perfect, but hey, I can deal with it.
@@danielrock04 thanks for comment! I completely understand and can def see a lot of others choosing it over the others. If it’s good for you then it’s good for me :))
And the xbox version works with quite a few PC mods, I used to play it with 2x draw distance, a downscaled HD texture pack and another mod that added extra button combinations that allowed for features like entering vehicles as a passenger, full aim drive bys, being able to pick up and move buglary props at any time, even had a real time map and model editor, all running on real hardware.
The way I see it, the best way to play it is via native PC port. And I'm not talking about the Steam release. I'm talking about OG physical release. I mean, I own one so it's not a problem for me. But if you want a PS2 graphics then there is mods that fit all your needs. And then you can buy and use PS2 controller for the PC, that you can plug-in via adapter or just buy a PC adapted version of it. There is also a fix that allows the PC version of the game to see the controller properly. But I personally play on Mouse and Keyboard so it doesn't bother me at all. But why not emulating the game, you may ask? Well, simply because the emulation can have it's problems. Like bugs, stutters, performance issues and stuff like that. So emulation is not a solution here. Also, native PC version can be played with resolution that you want and also in full 60 FPS and even 4K. And yes, I'm still talking about original PC port and not a remastered one.
9:51 i've used a mod for the classic PC version which is "ENB Series" from MixMods, it makes the game look exactly like DE with the new filter while keeping the original art style
Speaking as a newcomer to GTA, the Definitive Edition (with the classic lighting update) is how I've been playing the Trilogy for the first time. I think not having any nostalgia for prior versions helps me to appreciate the DE's merits more. I'm not blind to its warts, but I feel like the average gamer who hasn't played the originals (but is at least aware they were PS2 games) wouldn't mind the DE so much. At least, that's a perspective I have.
Like if you had a sheet of paper with all the best San Andreas cheat codes written down! Also be sure to check the desscription for all the tools and mods I used in the video. 🔥
Honestly for me I find the emulated PS2 version and the modded steam release is the way to go for a more close nostalgic feel. DE if they reverted the weird sims artstyle they went with could help it further I feel. Though DE is still just a disappointment overall to me since it could've been so great if they did one game at a time instead of all 3 at once.
Ive had SA in my backlog for years now, and even now Im still debating which version I want to play lol. Love playing ps2 games with a CRT filter, but daaang modded steam would probably be the best way to go. Sometime soon though Ill decide and start my first playthrough!!!
Good video. It's a shame it's not easier to find the perfect way to play this game. A rom for the game is getting harder to find to emulate. The game has been removed from Steam, and the DE version is still not fully fixed yet. I've been playing the DE version for now, it's OK but still needs more fixes. I've tried modding the Steam version before, but I couldn't stop it from crashing. That's one reason I like the DE version, it looks a little nicer and doesn't crash.
I kind of missed the GTA bandwagon. When the original game came out, I didn't have either a PS1 or a DOS computer to run it. I had an Amiga until I got a system with Windows 98 on it around 2000. When GTA3 came out, my system didn't meet the requirements. Bt the time I had one fast enough, Vice City and San Andreas were out, and I kind of wanted to play them in order. That never happened. The first GTA game that I actually tried playing is Liberty City Stories in PPSSPP. While I like the game over-all, there are things about the game design that I find rage inducing. Like not being able to instantly restart a failed level in a challenge, or having to start an entire challenge over again if I fail one level of it. Not to mention the braindead auto-aim that usually locks onto everyone BUT your preferred target in crowded locations. While I think a modded computer version would be the best looking, if it didn't have the ability to save and load the game at will, I would NEVER have the patience to play it. I would have quit LCS after about 10 minutes without save states. Plus, if I'm going to play a game on a system with a mouse, I want the ability to aim with the mouse.
@@TechRyze another commenter has reminded me that the Xbox version has 16:9 support if you boot into the dashboard first and select it. I’m not sure about PS2
I think the best way must be to use a old PC with Win XP. I first played this game on HP DV 6000 Win XP laptop with 128 MB Nvidia GPU. Right now I'm playing this game on Lenovo Thinkpad T480 Win 11 laptop with Intel HD 630.
For me the PS2 is the first. I think, it's still the best version of the game. IF you considering to play more seriously the game, then the PC version. The XBox is an interesting one. It was a kinda mixed port. It never was a huge succsess, and that's why this is the most unknown version of the game. And lastly the Def. Ed... no... never... Stay away everything SA related, that was made by the Wardrum, later GSG studio...

The modern controls on the DE version is also something you can get out of the PC version with mods.
The ps2 emulator has. Only a small weird issue where dirt on cars looks purple. Other than that it runs like a dream
