  • This video is for my Ceramics II students as we are making Lidded Pots for our Raku project. I show different kinds of lids and pots- and if you are interested in the pdf of the handout I made, it is found here: drive.google.c...
This is the last of the lidded pot series- before they are fired… I may make another video and I will add to the playlist of using tape as a resist when glazing!
Here is a playlist of all the videos in this pinch lidded pot project:

We are using Standard 153 stoneware in our class for this project rather than our traditional raku clay body, to simplify the clay bodies they are dealing with should students be working from home while quarantined. (This was shot for fall of '20- normally we use Standard 239)
For the great tools I used in the video (including the mudtools ribs and needle tools) check out this link to a live Googledoc I continually update with lots of my favorite tools on Amazon using my associate links! docs.google.co...
As always though, I encourage people fo shop their local clay and ceramic supplier! My particular favorite is Cornell Studio Supply out of Dayton, Oh. cornellstudios...
I made this video for my Ceramics II students at Mason High School.
I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; www.etsy.com/s...
I started my RUclips channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!

I’m someone who took a pottery class several years ago, and now am coming back to it, your videos are fantastic. I’ve tried a lot of new things with your instruction. Thanks

That concrete tip is helpful! I hand-built a cup and it's a bit uneven, so I'm gonna use this trick! Thank you!

Love the content but might be better if the time lapses were slowed down.

I totally understand and do agree! But, as I made for my high school students-I know I have a finite amount of time to get them to engage with the video to learn the processes - so I felt like I had to speed it for them to stay with me! :( sorry!
