LOL! Totally forgot about April fools!! I thought it was kind of strange that it had the Gold Record Award on it like the one I bought in the 70s. I think mine has the Apple label on it.
i had a 1980 pressing of that as a kid. my dad had all the Capitol releases plus 2 copies of All Things must pass which we never listened to! i didnt get into George's solo stuff until the 90s.
Having mysteriously returned, the leaves on my tree ruffle in the breeze of nearly early spring, even while the Beatles down below burrow ever deeper, disappearing into the languid loam of magnanimous Mother Earth.
I'm so glad it turned out to be an April Fool's joke . . . . I was having a hard time trying to come up with a way to tell you that you had overspent by about 985 bucks! All's well that ends!
That was a good one! I was pretty suspicious of the idea of you paying that much for something you can’t see, I mean, you don’t strike me as the religious type! *ba dum tss* All jokes aside, that yard sale story sold it! Well done! 🤣 Also, April Wine & American Fool… Genius!
What a pain in the ass to collect Beatles albums all because Crapitol screwed them up. Those purple label albums are awesome. Those are the ones my parents had. The only other one we had was an Orange MMT.
I knew your video was an April Fool's prank before I even watched it! Here in Atlanta, the longtime music venue The Masquerade played a great prank yesterday. They posted on Instagram an apology for calling one of their stages "Hell" (the other 2 are Heaven and Purgatory) and have changed it to "Heck" to avoid upsetting people who are triggered by the implications of Hell. The comment section was full of people who thought that sensitivity had gone to far.
I've got that 80's stereo-labeled yet mono version. Sounds SO GOOD. Will eventually pick up the true stereo LP, but fun fact: all the cassettes had the true stereo tracks... the later versions with Dolby sound really great
Very well done. I have once or twice traded in at great value a 10 dollar version, baded on the greed and curiosity of the shop owners. Thinking they'd pull one over. Thanks for the 50 dollar credits suckaaaaas. Lol 😆
NO! but your vids are Great as always! Sorry bout the true part! BTW "There is another US Beatles album that has some copies with a paste over cover. Not the front cover, though, but the back cover. Introducing the Beatles was first issued with Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You. Later issues replaced those songs with Please Please Me and Ask Me Why. A few of the first covers were reused with the back cover pasted over with the correct song titles. Much harder to find than a butcher cover!"
You had me for a minute there, Fithen. Then I saw the purple label and noticed the gold stamp. Oh… you. One serious question though is that a real stereo butcher cover in your hand a few times? Would love to know the story on how you got that and what you think it’s worth. I’ve been looking for one at a reasonable price since I was a young fella. Looks clean too.
Did you buy the 2023 Red/Blue mixes last year? For the most part Giles did an excellent job with the d mixing process. However, there were some cracks like the Walrus mix and Old Brown Shoe. She Loves You also was a train wreck. But overall it sounds amazing especially the Rubber Soul Tracks. I know you’re a big fan of the remixes 😂. I can’t listen to the original stereo mixes especially the American versions where John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles complained about over the years. They also had nothing to do with the stereo mixes (except Abbey/Let It Be). Original mono all the way or the newer mixes for me. Some of the original stereo is good when you listen on one speaker. I just can’t stand some different takes, some bad edits, missing sound effects which can be quite annoying. Again, some of the original stereo sounds excellent. Specifically what sounds off is certain songs like From Me To You (missing harmonica), If I Fell (Paul’s voice cracking during the chorus) , ISHKB (missing harmonica) , a lot of the Sgt. Pepper album, portions of Revolver. You get my point. It’s very lopsided and when you listen to the original mono you hear the proper mixes (mono sound is limited though). Revolution kicks ass in mono. Lennon even commented on how much better and hard hitting it was.
I wanted to ask on the April 1 video if that was a legit "1st state" butcher cover - that's an amazing copy you have there! I remember when "Get The Knack" came out, I read that the band requested that Capitol use the classic rainbow '60s labels because that's the label the Beatles first appeared on. Quite possibly Capitol decided to keep using that design going forward (? that's a theory, anyway).
Hmmm. . . Now I gotta check the label and pressing of my Yesterday & Today LP. I stupidly sold some of my original US albums when the CDs came out (don't ask me why). I rebought them years later and wasn't too fussy about which pressings I got as long as they were in decent shape.
@@RobertFithen I too forgot it was April 1 when I saw your video. I officially take back all the nasty names I called you and repeatedly screaming at the screen "YOU IDIOT....!!!!" 😎😎
You totally fooled me dude! Not really. I'm an old fogey. I have 2 pressings. A Purple Capitol like yours (O) and an Orange Capitol (maybe its red but looks orange to me) and that one is a Winchester Pressing. Is the orange from the 1980's?
Dolls & Meat ? How The Hell Is That AS Bad As John & his Pet Monkey Yoko's Pubes 0n the two Idiots album ? ( OK, excuse the monkey, 'cause it don't know no better )
Thanks Robert, great video, you had me fooled!!!
LOVE IT !!! Keep the great content coming.
Hi Robert. Enjoyed your video. All the best.
I can imagine worser things than beeing fooled by Mr. Fithen.
Completely forgot it was April fools day lol. You had me until you showed the label.

You got me 💯. Thanks for the laugh. You also got me with the George Harrison box set Living in a Material World with the Madonna items.

That video was brilliant. Great job. The things you learn.
Wow, I didn't know about the paste-overs.
*April Fools is great for the Vinyls Community.*
Let's put it this way, it's tough trying to fool an April Fool on his birthday. I did post a few "non-existent edit" tracks for April Fool's Day, too.
Nice April fools day prank😊
I scored a lime green Capital label club version at Goodwill a few weeks ago for $7. This is a great sounding version as well.

Great video Robert. Luckily I have the '78 Winchester (Jay)

Yep, you got me! 🤣
Some Y+T pressings have fake stereo on the UK Revolver songs on one side, and real stereo on the other.
You had me!!!! lol

“Mike 45RPM” talked about using a mono cartridge on stereo records
I knew that the label was not the one from the 60's^
Thankfully I have the Jacksonville pressing on the 1978 purple label. The fake stereo is what makes it great!
I'll give you 6$ for it! Gimme klaatu instead!! 🤣

A lot of us did the same when CD's came out. I ditched my vinyl in 1995 ( I kept what Beatles and Doors albums I owned though)
Wally Traugott (Wly in deadwax) also cut richard marx and GRP(cut from digital masters) jazz LPs and they sound remarkable even the digital GRP ones.
On the 1978 reissues, does the true stereo mix of I'm Only Sleeping have the unique mono mix backwards guitars or did they use the UK stereo mix?
If you have not watched the April 1 McCartney release video on Pop Goes the 60s - you should watch it!
I will check it out.

Sea of Tranquility channel did one :D
So the version's you show are re-pressing's, originals, or are they photo-copies from Staples?
Am I mistaken or did my brother buy a Beatles album called Beatles '65? It had No Reply on it and it showed the Beatles sporting seasonal themes.
"Beatles '65" was basically the U.S. version of "Beatles For Sale".
@@RobertFithen- thank you. 59 years later the mystery is solved. Sometimes I need to take a break from research.
You got me but idk if you wanted it it's your money but it does go against what you normally say
That was one of the main clues. lol
You’re just a damn g
Anyone who may have believed that you actually spent $1,000 obviously do not really follow your channel or understand your comedic genius. 😁
