Its an unfortunate reality with no clear or easy solution. We dont want murderers getting back out on the street easily after theyve been arrested but that means bail and bonds. That unfortunately negatively affects people that are innocent. At the same time people arent going to want to pay more in taxes to compensate everyone who gets their charges dismissed or is found not guilty because that doesnt always mean youre innocent or were falsely accused. Its a tough one for sure.

Firstly, just because the DA dropped the charges, that doesn’t mean the suspect is innocent. If they don’t have enough proof to go to trial and win a conviction, the DA will drop the charges. If they go to trial and don’t win the case, the suspect can’t ever be tried for that crime again, even if they eventually have solid proof of his guilt. It’s called Double Jeopardy. Read up about it.
Secondly, LEOs can only detain a suspect for a few hours, if they can’t investigate and come up with a solid case in that amount of time they have to let the suspect go. Then the detectives need to go back to the beginning and start the investigation over.
Thirdly, I’m not “dense”, thank you. JJ asked him if anyone was ever convicted because she was thinking exactly what I’m thinking. If you call your local law enforcement office and/or your county’s DA’s office and ask them about Double Jeopardy, they will tell you exactly what I just said.

He wasn’t found guilty or not guilty because there was no trial. There’s an ongoing police investigation - sometimes it’s 20 or 30 years before they figure it all out. Because they dropped the charges and didn’t go to court with the accusation, he can be re-arrested at some point in the future when the police have a tighter case against him. If he’s guilty.

My bf was arrested for dui about 5 years ago... she doesnt drink or do drugs
She requested blood draw and breathalyzer on the scene.
Was not given... she had to hire an attorney, Pay bail and her charges were dismissed.
