you guys WISHHHHHHHHH you had your hands on Unraveling FRRRR
I’m so jealous! It looks so cool
"What are the weekends for if not for staying up working on your book?" She's so real for thiss😭
hahaha
Not me taking notes during your video on your reccs including getting Taro Boba for my next writing session & then seeing my face pop up in your video! What an honor - hope you liked the structure video! 🫶💗
Loved this vlog and watching you work through all these complicated and intricate parts of the story!!
Loved it so much!! And yay so glad you enjoyed the vlog
FINALLY someone acknowledges talking to yourself!! it's so helpful i honestly struggle to not think out loud sometimes
(ps. great video btw 🧡)
Same! That helps me the most
I feel you on the visualisation aspect; houses that are significantly bigger than anything I, or the character, have ever been in - houses that used to be priories/ monasteries - castle-like homes - a 17th century ship: how do you move about on one? How do you move _between_ levels/ decks? A 16th/ 17th century kitchen is *_vastly_* different to any kitchen I've ever been in- so the parts that make it up can be challenging to adjust to/ give the character understanding of.
I can absolutely understand the warning of not getting bogged down in research before getting the first draft done- *but* there are some aspects where I feel I can't move the story or characters forward, if I can't figure out *_how_* they move about in the spaces they spend their time in...
yup. these tiny things are so important and it bothers me when I can't find proper research to help.
@@katgreer6113
I don't live in England, so I can't go on a tour to understand space/ scope- docos have helped me out, depending on the subject matter- but that's not foolproof...
loved this :')🤍 love seeing the ins and outs of your brainstorming process !!!
THANKS MICHAELA!
Was just watching another video of yours! I've been using your channel as my north star in my own writertube journey! Also, I'm so jealous of your irl writing buddies! I'm in LA too but I've never had anyone irl to talk to about my writing.
aw!! I love to hear that!! good luck with your authortube journey!
@@briellewrites thank you so much!
Hooray for instincts!
Themes are many things. They can be the author making a grand speech, but they don't necessarily have to be. I drill down into my stories like a mineshaft, with a general purpose I'm pursuing but an openness to find *anything* of value.
The beat sheet is a tool I sometimes wish I had the discipline to use. But then again, my story structures have a habit of being more experimental to the point where Save the Cat's structure wouldn't help at all.
Rock on with the maps, the family trees, etc. etc. Worldbuilding is more fun when you can give it a sort of "database" face, almost as if there are historians among the characters themselves keeping track of the world for you.
Congrats as well on keeping that part of the process fairly well. A map, for example, would frustrate me if it wasn't drawn to scale. So when I do them, I use Microsoft Paint and crafts the lines down the exact pixel and it ends up taking a very long time.
Good luck on the legitimacy.
ooh! I really love that perspective of viewing it like historians among the characters that's fun.
I relate so much to you saying that you just need a piece of paper and scribble and draw arrows and everything because sometimes you just need to do that. And I also am right there with you with the talking out loud to yourself because I do it all the time, and sometimes it helps to speak it out loud to get a better sense of what you’re trying to figure out.
totally!! sometimes you just need a more physical process to work things out!!
You don't get how happy i get when I open this channel and i see a new video❤
Aw yayyy I’m honored
Omg I just finished watching all of your videos! I had them in the background while I wrote down tons of notes for my project. It took me three days because everything was so backed up. I just started reading Save the Cat and can't wait to apply it to my book when I make more progress on it. I really love your brainstorming process. It all sounds very interesting. Absolutely love watching your journey
yay!! thank you so much for being here im so glad you're enjoying the videos!
i am also adding imagery in the second draft. i cannot focus on everything all in one draft the way i'd LIKE to, so im sort of splitting it up haha
that makes total sense! gotta add in the details in phases!
Same. I just write everything in the first draft and fix in the key descriptions and sensory stuff later cos i spend so much time worrying what words sound right
This motivated and reminded me to work on the background details of my fantasy novel that the readers probably won't ever see. I feel like, as writers, we sometimes forget about those aspects of storytelling! Great video btw!!!
@@LauraRenTaler I love that!!
I'm so glad this video got recommended to me. Never seen this channel before but amazing vibes! As I sit down with inkarnate and scrivener open for some Sunday brainstorming, waiting for the water to boil for my tea, with some soft music in the background, this is just what I needed!
Very relatable and fun to see someone on such a similar journey. Can't wait for the next vid!
@@johnfrancois9940 yay so happy to hear this! Welcome to the channel
seeing you dive into the nitty gritty of your book gets me so excited! so much thought is going into this masterpiece and i can't wait to read 💖💖💖
aw she called it a MASTERPIECE!! Can’t wait to send you a copy bestie 🥹😇
This vlog was GREAT!! I’m working on draft 2 of book 2 and I feel like I forgot everything and this really set me back on track. Thank you for sharing!
aw yay! im so glad you enjoyed it. good luck with the draft!
Needed this
lol good luck!!
*me watching this video with my leftover bubble tea* 🥰
Also thoroughly enjoying how much detail and organization you go into with your worldbuilding. You're giving me lots of inspiration for how I can improve my process which is currently a MESS
LOVE THAT!!! bubble tea for the win!!!!
8:25 i really recommend Save the cat writes a novel by Jessica Brody! she talks about this, that in a novel the beats are not as clear and fast as in a movie and some things really clicked for me when i read her book, more than with blake snyder's
that is the book I was using! haha
Great video!! I haven't felt that excitement and motivation about writing for months now, I hope that your videos will encourage me to work on my books again. 🙈 Btw, yes for all the ideas you mentioned in this video for your future videos; I want to hear more about acts from Save the Cat or about your world building, timeline, politics… give us more behind the scenes 😉
awesome!! more to come :)
Your writing videos motivate me to get back to my writing. I'm working on a collection of short stories... My brain works better with writing short contained stories... I don't have any intention of publishing tbh I'm just writing for fun lol
writing for fun is awesome!
Yes please, would love a Save the Cat video! ❤
oooh interesting good to know!!!
I feel you with having innate/intuitive story structure. It’s literally how I create in general 😂 also; so many annotations Oo
ahahaha yes so many annotations!
I've been speaking to myself out loud my whole life... It really helps you organize your ideas. i even talk to myself in public and get funny looks it's ok haha
it really does!
Love the video! I would love to see a video about how you come up with characters and give them depths. ❤
Good to know!!
i loveee seeing your process for everything! i would love a video on save the cat, and also about characters
yay! so glad you enjoyed it!
I like to talk to myself while writing as well. It makes the experience much better. It shows passion.
The garden scenery with Bulbasaur in the background is really cool!!
totally! :)
I always really enjoy your videos. Can't wait to read this book one day! 🧡 And a character deep-dive would be great
thank you!!!! honored you want to read the book one day!
loved the video as always ♥
thanks!! so glad!
you are one of my faveeee writers on yt! thank u so much for sharing your journey with us! love love love your videos!
aw this made me so happy to hear!!! thank you! im so glad you enjoy the videos :)
I love your vlogs so inspiring! ❤️
thanks Morgan!!
Oh my god this opening!! ♥️♥️
right so cute lol
Congratulations!!!
Loved this.
I’m in the exact same position at the mo, preparing for draft 2 and ironing out the structure and fleshing out the world that I now wish I did before jumping into the first draft 😴
Yes to all of your video ideas. I wanna see them all 😅❤
yayyy coming soon to a screen near u
ahhh i wish i could brainstorm and follow rabbits but alas im deep in revisions x) love the video ❤ and yeah, talking to yourself, 100% relatable 😂
good luck with revisions!
very interesting take
I love Save the Cat so much. Changed my life lol. I combine it with other story beats like the 27 chapters method. How long is your first draft book? (Just curious. Looks so full and finished when mic was holding it). I though i was the only one who did floor plans!
can't wait to read it in 2025😂
ooh ive never heard of the 27 chapters method ill have to look into it!! The first draft ended up being around 75K words :)
Love this video!! ❤
thank you:)
I got Scrivener a couple years ago, but I find it to be so confusing.
Was it easy to navigate for you, or did you find some great tutorials? I feel so dumb lol.
💜
LOL ur def not dumb!! Id be happy to do a video on how I use it, I didn't reference any tutorials or anything. I just scrapped most of the template they gave and pretty much started fresh. do you remember what confused you about it?
@@briellewrites I'd have to open it again to find out. I think I imported my document from Word, but the chapters weren't broken up properly or something. It did something weird. but I don't remember exactly what it was. I just remember searching for videos to help and not having the same results lol. Maybe I need to just start my next project on there from scratch instead of trying to import an existing document.
But I'd for sure watch a tutorial video if you posted one lol
My main characters name is also Rhea (spelled Rhyia) and i'm also using save the cat and i'm also planning a duology. wow.
lol love that!
In case it helps in something ... I think that you can have the desert in the middle of the two cities taking into account that where I am right now in the Dominican Republic there is something similar to a small desert and where I come from in Venezuela there is also, so I think you can have a small desert in the middle of those two cities without problem
interesting! thanks!
You had so many things I have heard and used, but still there’s many things I haven’t done. I haven’t ever read Save the cat but I love to use 3 act story structure with my own adaption, meaning that when it has 16 plot points, each plot point gets 2 chapters or I divide it with my main characters. ❤
🧡
💜
❤
Watching this video for the 5th or 6th time for writing motivation 😂
I love that haha
HELLO IM SORRY?? BUT U ARE SO UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS??
Omg.. thank you that is so sweet
Where did you get your book printed??
I made a whole video about the process on my channel!
🖤🤍
