    Thank you Zula for letting me do this but I also want to highlight that whilst I find it hard to find plus-size clothing in Singapore, I don't just sit around, doing nothing and not work on achieveing my personal fitness goals!
    I workout to keep myself moving and fit. It's a great way for me to de-stress. 🧘
    I watch my diet because I have a sweet tooth so I make sure everything is consume in moderation ✨
    Taking care of your health is important but it it just as important to be confident about yourself no matter how you look. Body shaming anyone is NOT OKAY. Lastly, let's be more kind to one another and to ourselves! :-)

      Gladys you are so pretty 😊 I think I come to know you in some thesmartlocal or eatbook video? My first impression of you is like this girl pretty who is she? I actually click this video because you are inside the thumbnail ❤ I don’t think only skinny girls are pretty to be honest, I feel the mindset of girls need to change. I see girls around me starving themselves or doing all sorts of crazy shit to lose weight sacrificing their health to be skinny just to please others. A big no no. Mindset matters. Just be yourself as long as you are healthy nothing else matters. Of course you dont need to lose weight to fit the dress, otherwise why dress/clothes come in different sizing sia? Just come up with one size XS for example and make all girls lose weight fit into it la… make sense or not? So many sizing available is to fit different types of body shape.
      To other girls reading this, you are beautiful in your own way do what makes you feel comfortable and not because of what others say. Just eat healthy (reward yourself too, sometimes it’s okay to have some snacks etc ), exercise and lead a healthy life ❤ and most importantly, BE CONFIDENT, BE YOU. (applies to guys too)
      To others reading, I’m not saying all this because I am a plus size or whatever, I have a normal BMI so yea I’m not a plus size supporting a plus size if you’re wondering. I just feel that any size, you can be pretty too. Hope to see you in more videos Gladys 😄

    As much as I believe NOONE deserves to be shamed for their body size, I don't think we should pretend that being plus-sized is healthy... The fat acceptance movement can be toxic when one completely disregards their health because they think it's okay to be obese. We have to be careful about what we are teaching people about their bodies - love yourself but take care of your health.

    • @evfdurs
      @evfdurs Год назад +11

      I agree, it's good that there are more clothing options, I'm plus size/obese myself but I am working on it. I gained all this weight after years of eating anyhowly, I can't expect to lose all of it healthily within 2-3years. It is a lifetime journey of over the next 5-10years plus and the rest of my life of keeping the weight off. I like my body now after losing 30kgs and my bloodwork is significantly better than it was at my heaviest. A lot of fat girls in sg may also be indoctrinated by Western plussize tiktoks that say love your body the way you are, but when you are 60 and going to war with diabetes and u are about to get your leg chopped off then u will regret not taking care of your HEALTH FIRST.

      I don't know how you get the idea that people are pretending that being plus-sized is healthy? I have yet to meet anyone who did that. "We have to be careful about what we are teaching people about their bodies - love yourself but take care of your health." - this is giving off the vibe that you presume everyone is the same and so if you can be slim, why not them? Maybe, on that regards, you might want to read/study/research more. A good place to start would be to try googling Dr Giles Yeo and read his book or listen to one of his numerous videos on RUclips. Perhaps, sometimes, what you thought was a choice may not be so simple.

    I’m not here to fat shame. But I’m here to point out some gaps in logic in her shopping.
    She knew that her dress was something that is not the usual style, tried briefly in the queue, knew that something was not right, but still waited till CNY Day 1 to wear the dress??!!
    Yes, not all plus sized people are the same, and not all dresses/shirts or skirts fit the same. The editors market did make an effort to cater to plus sized customers who are in her body shape - in the form of flowy dresses.
    Is it then, the brand’s fault when a customer knowingly choose not try on their product, in this case, a dress that is different from her usual purchase?
    This whole episode could have been easily avoided, if one had done their due diligence in their shopping - just try the clothes you buy. Long queue? Bring home try la, then return only ma. Lol wait until cny day 1 then make noise.

    However, I've to say this @4:12 "Your XL doesn't fit all XL girls" tagged S doesn't mean all usual S girls will fit too. Sometimes you can wear doesn't mean you like the way it fits your body either. But the exact same dress & size may fit someone else to the t. This is just how shopping is, see heng suay one. Also, I always say I'm *USUALLY* L size cos i know not every dress/brand L fits me the way i want. If it's online shopping then shop from those with a return policy that works for you, otherwise you feedback or just dont support.
    My point is, if you are lazy to try cos fitting room long queue or you think returning online parcel lehceh, then end up you really cannot wear, 100% your fault.

    But isn't it true that... if you want something, you work towards it through consistent handwork? That means putting a certain amount of pressure on yourself
    If you have a healthy diet and try to slim down, but it is just unbearable or putting too much pressure on yourself to sustain this, then don't you think you should consider that tight-fitting dress is just not fittable for your lifestyle?
    You shouldn't just say, "This dress sucks" just because this dress cant fit your body size. From the designer's intent, your body size may not be the correct target audience for this design
    Once again, I'm not fat shaming her or any plus-size girls. This lady looks healthy and content with herself, and that's more important

    • @meixhian1220
      @meixhian1220 Год назад +12

      I think one of the points she made was that TEM's XL size fittings is not the same as the standardized XL size fitting, because she said she usually buys XL size from other stores and it fits her body size, so I feel like the part you said about slimming down is not really applicable in this situation though. Like you said, she is content with herself so it doesn't make sense to change what she likes.
      Another thing they brought up is how genetics and certain conditions like PCOS would really affect your body size/weight, and working out regularly wouldn't be able to help women with PCOS slim down. I do have a female friend suffering from PCOS and her hormones tend to fluctuate a lot, but when I see her lifestyle, she eats quite healthy stuff, workout 4x a week yet she is still overweight. At the end of the day, it's really not about people not wanting to work hard for what they want, there may be uncontrollable factors that other people don't see.

      The problem is that the clothing industry have this thing where they mess up sizes. A XL is not a XL in some brands. Even in the same brand 2 XL clothes I can fit one, the other cannot.
      It’s depressing to shop when you can fit one item and can’t fit another just cause the brand decided to cut the clothes differently.

    • @jawbeater
      @jawbeater Год назад +1

      @Mei Xhian I wrote it before watching her tiktok and only based on what she is saying in this vid. After watching her tiktok, I agree it is not about slimming down factor. But then again, looking at the intented design of that dress she bought really does look risky since the intended design seems to cater towards another audience but not hers?
      I do not know anything abt ladies clothing it is just my own surface judgement. I do agree that XL in different colors may vary. Same case as Uniqlo's clothing. My Black XL shirt has quite a different cutting from a white and yellow stripe XL shirt.
      Those who have knowledge or fashion designers, do correct me if I'm wrong. I heard from the staff is that, certain colors are expensive to mass re-produce and therefore slight adjustments to the cutting will be cost-saving, but it is still XL! So, if the intended design is tight-fitting and not catered to the right target audience, then getting an XL is just slightly decreasing the odds that it still won't fit

    • @Staryglitz
      @Staryglitz Год назад +2

      @@jawbeater I used to be UK18/20 myself and based on what I see from her in videos and photos, she is nowhere an average XL size for a normal shop that does not cater to plus sized women in general. Different shops have different sizings for XL. She could probably fit into their XL sizes before because the dresses are meant to be worn loose fit or have back smocking. If I were her (or what I used to be) I would never even shop in any of those shops. I only find shops or online stores that cater sizes for plus sized women. Why should she need to create awareness? This is the part I really don't understand.

    You can't gauge a person's health by BMI alone. Regardless of whether you are plus size or slim, everyone should try to eat healthily, exercise regularly and have yearly medical checkups. Some other impt indicators such as resting heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar level etc should be monitored as well - regardless of BMI. The worst part about being plus-size is the assumptions some people make about us based on our physical appearance - they assume that you are a glutton, that you have no self-control or that you are too lazy to work out

    But again, no one is born overweight. It is not a circumstance that you have “no choice but to live with it” kind of scenario. How many of us “average slim looking people” put in effort to SUSTAIN our body healthily, you have no idea either.
    The point is, I believe clothing brands should be inclusive in acknowledging that people have different body SHAPES. By catering to different kinds of cutting and fit. There’s a reason why a dress can look flattering on one, and unflattering on another (despite the same weight).
    But to demand that kind of size “inclusivity” as a result of your own lifestyle choices, is not it.

    As a UK18/20 Dorothy Perkins/Marks and Spencer size before, I understand the pain of Gladys.
    But like what she mentioned, there are more local brands doing plus sizes and the clothes look rather trendy. Back when I was a teen over 15 years ago, there's barely any shops that sell plus size and I can only find clothes from UK brands which are far more expensive. Nowadays plus sized ladies are already very lucky to have many local brands that carry XXL/UK 14 and beyond.
    One thing I don't understand is that why would she only try on the dress she bought without trying only on the first day of CNY especially when she's a plus size?! Furthermore the dress is a more fitted one than the usual ones she buys. All plus size ladies have different body shapes and not all XL size cuttings are the same! If she didn't want to queue to try, it's honestly her fault when it doesn't fit. Some clothes won't fit properly due to the cutting even if the girl is size S. I think most women do know that! I think it's honestly bad taste for her to call out on The Editor's Market for not being size inclusive. Also, as a size UK18/20 before, she’s definitely not an average size XL girl. She probably could wear size XL before because the dresses have smocking at the back and are normally worn loose fit. It took me 3-4 years to lose 30kg and fit size XL from clothes that do not sell plus sized clothes.
    I had problems losing weight almost all my life as I was plus sized since primary school. I also thought if I watch on my diet and exercise it's fine even when I'm plus sized. But let's be honest that being overweight is really not healthy. I'm sure she knows that as well. If she could be more disciplined and lose weight, she will definitely feel happier and of course healthier. I can attest to that because I've lost over 30kg from a UK size 18/20 to a UK 10/12. I'm still overweight despite losing 30kg and will continue to do so.
    Nonetheless, if she's happy with her current lifestyle, I wish her all the best!

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate it! Like what I mentioned in the video, I was once very overweight too & had to work hard to lose weight to have a healthier body. Losing 20kg at 18 was a big achievement for me & since then, I decided to focus on making myself feel strong instead!
      On the topic of TEM, yes I should have tried on the dress, done my due diligence so none of this would have happened & I have no excuse for that.
      But it’s also big brands like them that I hope to bring awareness to that their sizing for XL could be improved & I have met the TEM founder after this video was filmed where we discussed the brand’s & the customer’s perspective on making XL & above.
      At the end of the day, it’s certainly not about “bringing down a brand” but rather, show to people that we need to have more big local brands hear us out & big girls should wear clothes that make them happy too! :-)

      Lol it’s clear that she still doesn’t get the point here.
      It doesn’t matter what size the clothes is, be it size S to XXXL - not all people that are size S will fit into size s clothes, same for M and XL and XXXL. The cutting of the design is just … different for everyone. It is what it is. It’s a fact in the clothing industry.
      Meeting founders of clothing brands will not change this fact. In fact they’ve already designed clothes, that already fit people of her body shape/proportions (as in body ratios, im being objective and not fat shaming here hor), in the form of flowy dresses.
      Seriously the more this goes on, the more this feels like it’s is just a PR/attention seeking stunt lol.

    12:10 correction. Genetics play a big part in your body shape, like rectangular or hour glass or pear. It does not play a big part in someone being OBESE or not. Being overweight/ obese/ plus-size (whichever politically more correct term you want to use) is all a matter of calorie input vs output. And we all know being obese carries its own health risks. Unfortunately it was only one design and in one colour so he’ll have to order the rest online. But still, it’s a small win :)

    I totally know how Gladys feel, I always have problems finding clothes at places like night markets/road side store when I’m overseas and even in Singapore, almost every shop I visit, I can’t find a bottom that I can fit into. T-shirts are usually fine for me. It’s just devastating to see a piece of clothes that u really like only to know it isn’t available in your size.
    and yes many people told me that I should lose weight so that I can fit into the clothing, but its not easy to lose weight. It takes a lot of time and effort as well as perseverance.
    Some people need to stop following the k-pop idols and model standard of beauty, what’s the point of being slim looking pretty all when you starve yourself or use some extreme methods to achieve that figure. It’s more impt to be healthy.

    Shopping became less enjoyable nowadays because I’m
    So used to trying on clothes and it not fitting at certain part of my body. Now I look at clothes I don’t even bother trying cause I know I will meet disappointment and the funny thing is the unsustainable platforms such as Shein that actually offer cheaper and wider size ranges. I know love bonito and many platforms exists but I can’t keep buying from such brands because of the price points, soem recommend me a cheap shop with a wide range

    this made me so sad....even the fatphobic comments here lol like what if some people you deem to be 'big' are in the process of discovering themselves and getting to a healthier, best version of themselves, and it'd take years, do you mean DURING those years of working on themselves they cannot enjoy having good clothes and loving themselves in the process?? that people only deserve good options of clothings ONCE they "succeed" in being a "socially acceptable" sizing that they can have nice variety of clothes?? no right zz

    "If you want to be fat, whatever. But don't try to say that it's somehow healthy or demand that society changes to accommodate you."
    "You shouldn’t hate yourself bc you’re fat and you also shouldn’t pretend being fat is healthy."

    Im so happy that glady's brought this up. Not alot of shops caters to plus size girls and its very find clothes in physical store. To those who says just looseweight to conform the the general public.... i think the main point is to be healthy and also feel good about ourselves. I have tried loosing weight with slimming pills cuz of PCOS and it was really affecting my mental health cuz i was just angry all the time...
    Thinking abt that and again hearing those kind of comments make me feel that if i want to wear a fucking dress/just clothes i have to depress?? Wtf.
    But i do feel happy now adays that there are small brands that caters to plus size now like curve plus and juneosque. So i think singapore fashion is being more inclusive but mayb not mainstream which i understand as the customer size is not as big.

    Ok.. if you are plus sized due to medical condition , you have my empathy.. but if you are unhappy , yet do nothing to improve yourself.. and expect people to be accommodating.. 🤔

    I don’t want to pin point anyone but there is a Singaporean chinese RUclips channel i believe many of you know it they have a plus size female as part of their team, and all the time, people (esp the men) in their team and behind the camera would comment on her weight as a joke to attract viewers and try to make it funny and I’ve never liked that aspect of that and the girl sometimes even makes fat jokes at herself, I feel like channels like this should stop using fat jokes/body shaming to make their content “funny” because I find it SO DISRESPECTFUL to people of those body types watching and to the girl too, most of them making the jokes are usually men the ignorance of this RUclips channel is insane and are teaching viewers who watch them especially young viewers, to treat people of different body types which such disrespect and ignorance. I hope that one day, someone will teach this channel a lesson and these people should really go back and reflect on themselves as “influencers”
